The abnormal changes of biothiols are directly related to health condition of human body,and the effective identification and quantification of biothiols is of great significance for screening and diagnosis of disease.This study described the development of a p H-regulated colorimetric sensor array for discrimination of five kinds of biothiols including cysteine(Cys),glutathione(GSH),homocysteine(Hcy),cysteamine(CA)and N-acetylcysteine(NAC).The proposed sensor array was established using 5-nm-and 20-nm-sizedβ-cyclodextrin-functionalized gold nanoparticles(β-CD@Au NPs)as nonspecific receptor and signal transduction elements.Due to the different binding affinity between biothiols andβ-CD@Au NPs in various p H environments,the different aggregation behaviors of nanoparticles produced unique colorimetric response patterns,which were able to be distinguished by bare eyes and UV-vis spectrophotometer.Accordingly,principal component analysis(PCA)and hierarchical cluster analysis(HCA)were employed for pattern recognition and generated a clustering map for a clear differentiation of biothiols at the level ofμmol/L.Furthermore,it can be proved that the method was successfully applied to the analysis of biothiols in human urine samples.

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) enhanced photocatalysis has fascinated much interest and considerable efforts have been devoted toward the development of plasmonic photocatalysts. In the past decades, noble metal nanoparticles (Au and Ag) with LSPR feature have found wide applications in solar energy conversion. Numerous metal-based photocatalysts have been proposed including metal/semiconductor heterostructures and plasmonic bimetallic or multimetallic nanostructures. However, high cost and scarce reserve of noble metals largely limit their further practical use, which drives the focus gradually shift to low-cost and abundant nonmetallic nanostructures. Recently, various heavily doped semiconductors (such as WO_(3-x), MoO_(3-x), Cu_(2-x)S, TiN) have emerged as potential alternatives to costly noble metals for efficient photocatalysis due to their strong LSPR property in visible-near infrared region. This review starts with a brief introduction to LSPR property and LSPR-enhanced photocatalysis, the following highlights recent advances of plasmonic photocatalysts from noble metal to semiconductor-based plasmonic nanostructures. Their synthesis methods and promising applicability in plasmon-driven photocatalytic reactions such as water splitting, CO_(2) reduction and pollution decomposition are also summarized in details. This review is expected to give guidelines for exploring more efficient plasmonic systems and provide a perspective on development of plasmonic photocatalysis.

Thermal conductivity plays an important role in the thermochemical evolution of Earth’s mantle.Recent mineral physics studies suggest that the thermal conductivity of the mantle varies with pressure and composition,and this may play an important role in the evolution of the Earth’s mantle.Meanwhile,the rheology of the deep mantle is also supposed to be composition-dependent.However,the dynamic influences of these factors remain not well understood.In this study,we performed numerical experiments of thermochemical mantle convection in 2-D spherical annulus geometry to systematically investigate the effects of depth-and composition-dependent thermal conductivity and the compositional viscosity ratio on the long-term evolution of the large thermochemical structure of primordial material in Earth’s mantle.Our results show that increasing the depth-dependent thermal conductivity leads to a larger core-mantle boundary(CMB)heat flow and allows the formation of more stable large thermochemical piles(e.g.,Large Low Shear Velocity Provinces,LLSVPs);while decreasing the composition-dependent thermal conductivity would slightly destabilize the primordial thermochemical piles,increase the altitude of these piles and the temperature differences between the piles and the ambient mantle.If the primordial mantle material is compositionally more viscous(e.g.,20 times than that of the ambient mantle),the long-term stability of the thermochemical piles of primordial material decreases,and this destabilizing effect will be enhanced by decreasing the composition-dependent thermal conductivity.As a result,the thermochemical piles would be unstable in the core-mantle boundary region.Therefore,our study indicates that the combined effects of depth-and composition-dependent thermal conductivity and compositional viscosity ratio are pronounced to the thermochemical evolution of the mantle.

The machining unit of hobbing machine tool accounts for a large portion of the energy consumption during the operating phase.The optimization design is a practical means of energy saving and can reduce energy consumption essentially.However,this issue has rarely been discussed in depth in previous research.A comprehensive function of energy consumption of the machining unit is built to address this problem.Surrogate models are established by using effective fitting methods.An integrated optimization model for reducing tool displacement and energy consumption is developed on the basis of the energy consumption function and surrogate models,and the parameters of the motor and structure are considered simultaneously.Results show that the energy consumption and tool displacement of the machining unit are reduced,indicating that energy saving is achieved and the machining accuracy is guaranteed.The influence of optimization variables on the objectives is analyzed to inform the design.

Drinking water utilities are interested in upgrading their treatment facilities to enhance micropollutant removal and byproduct control.Pre-oxidation by chlorine dioxide(ClO_(2))followed by coagulation-flocculation-sedimentation and advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)is one of the promising solutions.However,the chlorite(ClO_(2)^(-))formed from the ClO_(2) preoxidation stage cannot be removed by the conventional coagulation process using aluminum sulfate.ClO_(2)^(–)negatively affects the post-UV/chlorine process due to its strong radical scavenging effect,and it also enhances the formation of chlorate(ClO_(3)^(–)).In this study,dosing micromolar-level ferrous iron(Fe(II))into aluminum-based coagulants was proposed to eliminate the ClO_(2)^(–)generated from ClO_(2) pre-oxidation and benefit the post-UV/chlorine process in radical production and ClO_(3)^(–)reduction.Results showed that the addition of 52.1-μmol/L FeSO_(4) effectively eliminated the ClO_(2)^(-)generated from the pre-oxidation using 1.0 mg/L(14.8μmol/L)of ClO 2.Reduction of ClO_(2)^(-)increased the degradation rate constant of a model micropollutant(carbamazepine)by 55.0%in the post-UV/chlorine process.The enhanced degradation was verified to be attributed to the increased steady-state concentrations of HO^(-)·and ClO_(2)·by Fe(II)addition.Moreover,Fe(II)addition also decreased the ClO_(3)^(–)formation by 53.8%in the UV/chlorine process and its impact on the formation of chloroorganic byproducts was rather minor.The findings demonstrated a promising strategy to improve the drinking water quality and safety by adding low-level Fe(II)in coagulation in an advanced drinking water treatment train.

The three-orbit constellation can comprehensively increase the spatial coverage of polar-orbiting satellites,but the polar-orbiting satellites currently in operation are only mid-morning-orbit and afternoon-orbit satellites.Fengyun-3E(FY-3E)was launched successfully on 5 July 2021 in China.As an early-morning-orbit satellite,FY-3E can help form a complete three-orbit observation system together with the mid-morning and afternoon satellites in the current mainstream operational system.In this study,we investigate the added benefit of FY-3E microwave sounding observations to the midmorning-orbit Meteorological Operational satellite-B(Met Op-B)and afternoon-orbit Fengyun-3D(FY-3D)microwave observations in the Chinese Meteorological Administration global forecast system(CMA-GFS).The results show that the additional FY-3E microwave temperature sounder-3(MWTS-3)and microwave humidity sounder-2(MWHS-2)data can increase the global coverage of microwave temperature and humidity sounding data by 14.8% and 10.6%,respectively.It enables the CMA-GFS to achieve nearly 100% global coverage of microwave-sounding observations at each analysis time.Furthermore,after effective quality control and bias correction,the global biases and standard deviations of the differences between observations and model simulations are also reduced.Based on the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit A and the Microwave Humidity Sounder onboard Met Op-B,and the MWTS-2 and MWHS-2 onboard FY-3D,adding the microwave sounding data of FY-3E can further reduce the errors of analysis results and improve the global prediction skills of CMA-GFS,especially for the southern-hemisphere forecasts within 96 hours,all of which are significant at the 95% confidence level.

Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor(TRAF)proteins are conserved in higher eukaryotes and play key roles in transducing cellular signals across different organelles.They are characterized by their C-terminal region(TRAF-C domain)containing seven to eight antiparallelβ-sheets,also known as the meprin and TRAF-C homology(MATH)domain.Over the past few decades,significant progress has been made toward understanding the diverse roles of TRAF proteins in mammals and plants.Compared to other eukaryotic species,the Arabidopsis thaliana and rice(Oryza sativa)genomes encode many more TRAF/MATH domaincontaining proteins;these plant proteins cluster into five classes:TRAF/MATH-only,MATH-BPM,MATH-UBP(ubiquitin protease),Seven in absentia(SINA),and MATH-Filament and MATHPEARli-4 proteins,suggesting parallel evolution of TRAF proteins in plants.Increasing evidence now indicates that plant TRAF proteins form central signaling networks essential for multiple biological processes,such as vegetative and reproductive development,autophagosome formation,plant immunity,symbiosis,phytohormone signaling,and abiotic stress responses.Here,we summarize recent advances and highlight future prospects for understanding on the molecular mechanisms by which TRAF proteins act in plant development and stress responses.

Extreme high temperatures frequently occur in southwestern China,significantly impacting the local ecological system and economic development.However,accurate prediction of extreme high-temperature days(EHDs)in this region is still an unresolved challenge.Based on the spatiotemporal characteristics of EHDs over China,a domain-averaged EHD index over southwestern China(SWC-EHDs)during April-May is defined.The simultaneous dynamic and thermodynamic fields associated with the increased SWC-EHDs are a local upper-level anticyclonic(high-pressure)anomaly and wavy geopotential height anomaly patterns over Eurasia.In tracing the origins of the lower boundary anomalies,two physically meaningful precursors are detected for SWC-EHDs.They are the tripolar SST change tendency from December-January to February-March in the northern Atlantic and the February-March mean snow depth in central Asia.Using these two selected predictors,a physics-based empirical model prediction was applied to the training period of 1961–2005 to obtain a skillful prediction of the EHDs index,attaining a correlation coefficient of 0.76 in the independent prediction period(2006–19),suggesting that 58%of the total SWC-EHDs variability is predictable.This study provides an estimate for the lower bound of the seasonal predictability of EHDs as well as for the hydrological drought over southwestern China.

2-Methoxyjuglone,a member of the 1,4-naphthoquinone family,was first obtained through semi-synthesis based on 2-hydroxyjuglone as the precursor in 1966.It has been isolated and identified from different plant species of the Juglandaceae,Sterculiaceae,and Proteaceae families.2-Methoxyjuglone has been demonstrated to possess a wide range of biological activities,including antitumor,antifungal,and antibacterial activities;in addition,it has been shown to poison fish and inhibit seed germination.These properties make 2-methoxyjuglone a promising bioactive compound for pharmaceutical and agricultural purposes.This review article provides an overview of the current research progress on 2-methoxyjuglone for the first time,with a primary focus on the plant sources,extraction,identification,synthesis,and biological activities associated with this compound for further development.

Intracontinental lithospheric delamination:Constraints from imaging the mantle transition zone beneath the southwestern part of the Sichuan Basin

The southwestern part of the Sichuan Basin(SW-SCB)is adjacent to the eastern Himalayan syntaxis.Affected by the Indo-Eurasian collision and subsequent intrusion of the Indian plate into the Eurasian plate during the Cenozoic,this region is ideal for the study of the tectonic evolution of the intracontinental lithosphere and the dynamic processes of deep and shallow structures.In this study,we applied the receiver function technique to the data obtained from a recently deployed high-density broadband seismic array across the Sichuan Basin and Sichuan-Yunnan block(SCB-SYB).We conducted a multi-frequency and multi-model correction analysis to image the structure of the mantle transition zone beneath this region.The results showed the660-km discontinuity gradually increasing in depth by 10-30 km beneath the western side of the Anninghe-Xiaojiang Fault,suggesting the presence of thermal anomalies caused by the subducted Indian plate from west to east.At the junction of the SCBSYB,the 410-km discontinuity exhibited a slight uplift of 5-10 km,while the 660-km discontinuity showed a significant depression of~30 km over a lateral range of~150 km.Based on previous surface GPS observation and dynamic numerical simulation studies,we suggest that the sharp lateral small-scale topography of this 660-km discontinuity beneath the SW-SCB may have resulted from dripping delamination of the lithosphere within the strain localization area.Furthermore,the aggregation of delaminated lithospheric material at the base of the 660-km discontinuity determines the regional topography of mantle transition zone discontinuities.In this study,we provided seismological evidence for the challenging detection of small-scale intracontinental lithosphere dripping delamination.Moreover,it provides a new view for studying deep and shallow dynamic processes in intracontinental regions with stress concentration resulting from plate/continental subduction and collision.
