Objective This study aimed to assess the association of waist circumference(WC)with all-cause mortality among Chinese *** The baseline data were from Shanxi Province of 2002 China Nutrition and Health *** death investigation and follow-up visit were conducted from December 2015 to March *** visits covered up to 5,360 of 7,007 participants,representing a response rate of 76.5%.The Cox regression model and floating absolute risk were used to estimate hazard ratio and 95%floating CI of death by gender and age groups(≥60 and<60 years old).Sensitivity analysis was performed by excluding current smokers;participants with stroke,hypertension,and diabetes;participants who accidentally died;and participants who died during the first 2 years of *** This study followed 67,129 person-years for 12.5 years on average,including 615 *** mortality density was 916 per 100,000 *** WC was associated with all-cause mortality among ***-adjusted hazard ratios(HR)were 1.60(1.35–1.90)for WC<75.0 cm and 1.40(1.11–1.76)for WC ranging from 75.0 cm to 79.9 *** WC(<70.0 cm and 70.0–74.9 cm)and high WC(≥95.0 cm)groups had a high risk of mortality among *** adjusted HRs of death were 1.43(1.11–1.83),1.39(1.05–1.84),and 1.91(1.13–3.22).Conclusion WC was an important predictor of death independent of body mass index(BMI).WC should be used as a simple rapid screening and predictive indicator of the risk of death.

Accuracy and precision of dried urine spot method for the detection of Schistosoma mansoni circulating cathodic antigens in resource-limited settings

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome （AIDS） was first reported in 1981. Five healthy young men suddenly presented with opportunistic pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis carinii （currently termed P. jirovecii）. The original report from Los Angeles was followed by many reports of patients with similar symptoms in large cities in North America and in Europe. People in resource-rich countries were shocked by this sudden emergence of a highly fatal disease among gay men.

Effect of longwall-induced subsurface deformations on shale gas well casing stability under deep covers

This paper presents the results of a 2017 study conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH), Pittsburgh Mining Research division(PMRD), to evaluate the effects of longwall-induced subsurface deformations within a longwall abutment pillar under deep cover. The 2017 study was conducted in a southwestern Pennsylvania coal mine, which extracts 457 m-wide longwall panels under 361 m of cover. One 198 m-deep, in-place inclinometer monitoring well was drilled and installed over a 45 m by 84 m center abutment pillar. In addition to the monitoring well, surface subsidence measurements and underground coal pillar pressure measurements were conducted as the 457 m-wide longwall panel on the south side of the abutment pillar was being mined. Prior to the first longwall excavation, a number of simulations using FLAC3D^(TM) were conducted to estimate surface subsidence, increases in underground coal pillar pressure, and subsurface horizontal displacements in the monitoring well. Comparisons of the pre-mining FLAC3D simulation results and the surface, subsurface,and underground instrumentation results show that the measured in-place inclinometer casing deformations are in reasonable agreement with those predicted by the 3D finite difference models. The measured surface subsidence and pillar pressure are in excellent agreement with those predicted by the 3D *** from this 2017 research clearly indicate that, under deep cover, the measured horizontal displacements within the abutment pillar are approximately one order of magnitude smaller than those measured in a 2014 study under medium cover.

Ungulate bocaparvovirus 4 and rodent bocavirus are different genotypes of the same species of virus

Bocaviruses are associated with many human infectious diseases, such as respiratory tract infections, gastroenteritis, and hepatitis. Rats are known to be reservoirs of bocaviruses, including rodent bocavirus and rat ***, ungulate bocaparvovirus 4, a known porcine bocavirus, has also been found in rats. Thus, investigating bocaviruses in rats is important for determining the origin of the viruses and preventing and controlling their transmission. To the best of our knowledge, no study to date has investigated bocaviruses in the livers of rats. In this report, a total of 624 rats were trapped in southern China between 2014 and 2017. Liver and serum samples from rats were tested for the prevalence of bocaviruses using PCR. Sequences related to ungulate bocaparvovirus 4and rodent bocavirus were detected in both liver and serum samples. Interestingly, the prevalence of ungulate bocaparvovirus 4(reference strain: KJ622366.1) was higher than that of rodent bocavirus(reference strain:KY927868.1) in both liver(2.24% and 0.64%, respectively) and serum samples(2.19% and 0.44%, respectively).The NS1 regions of ungulate bocaparvovirus 4 and rodent bocavirus related sequences displayed over 84% and88% identity at the nucleic acid and amino acid levels, respectively. Furthermore, these sequences had similar genomic structure, genomic features, and codon usage bias, and shared a common ancestor. These viruses also displayed greater adaptability to rats than pigs. Our results suggested that ungulate bocaparvovirus 4 and rodent bocavirus may originate from rats and may be different genotypes of the same bocavirus species.

Objective:To assess efficacy of albendazole against Ascaris(A.)lumbricoides among school-children at three sites of Rajahmundry,Sundergarh and ***:Sites were selected based on soil-transmitted helminths prevalence,different sociocultural-geographical characteristics and operational feasibility.9-12 Years old children from 14 schools were *** study was conducted in two rounds:baseline&follow up *** eligible children found positive for *** at baseline were administered supervised single tablet albendazole 400 mg under the National Deworming Day *** post-treatment follow-up survey,eligible children who provided second stool sample were included in the final *** samples were examined using WHO recommended Kato-Katz *** was estimated based on cure rate(CR)and Fecal Egg Count Reduction Rate(FECRR)among children found positive in baseline and follow-up ***:328 Out of 625(52.5%)were found positive for *** in the baseline survey and 85 out of 178 samples(47.8%)during post-treatment follow-up ***,the estimated CR was 52.2%.FECRR(95%CI)for albendazole was 72.6%(79.2%-66.0%).The FECRR was highest in East Godaveri[89.7%(96.8%-82.6%)],followed by Sundergarh[86.4%(95.3%-77.5%)]and Wayanad[69%(81.7%-56.4%)].Conclusions:Our study confirmed overall reduction in FEC although with varying albendazole efficacy for *** infection at three different locations in ***,these finding may be assessed in context of ongoing MDA under Filaria control program and further studies by in vivo as well as in vitro methods are required to reach to a conclusion on possible resistance if any.
