Electrochemical disinfection(ECD)is a promising disinfection technique for wastewater reclamation;however,the impacts of ECD on the microbiome in secondary effluent wastewater remain *** this study,Propidium monoazide-qPCR(PMA-qPCR)and the plate count method were used to evaluate the inactivation performance,and the PMA-16S rRNA gene sequences of living cells were targeted to study the microbiome.A discrepancy was found between PMA-qPCR and the plate count method in the evaluation of cell count,with increases of 1.5 to 2.2 orders of magnitude in the disinfection rate after 150 s of ***,the cell count recovered and occasionally exceeded original levels within 3 d after *** was suppressed after ECD,but the microbiome after 150 s disinfection retained a higher level of evenness and stability in the community with a median Shannon index(>3.7).Pathogenic bacteria remained high in relative abundance even after 150 s of 25 V disinfection,but the biofilm-forming population was effectively suppressed by *** co-occurrence network revealed a centralized and fragile network as disinfection persisted,demonstrating the destabilizing effects of ECD on the *** pathways for cell membrane synthesis and organic compound degradation were enriched after *** reaction of the microbiome after ECD was similar to other disinfection techniques in terms of community structure.

Esophageal cancer(EC)is an aggressive malignancy with a poor *** factors,including dietary habits,and antacid and antibiotic use,have been shown to influence the esophageal ***,enrichment and diversity of the esophageal microbiome can also impact its *** studies have revealed prevalent changes in the esophageal microbiome among patients with EC,thus suggesting the potential contribution of the esophageal microbiome to EC ***,distinct microbiome compositions have been observed in patients with different responses to radiotherapy and chemotherapy,indicating the role of the esophageal microbiome in modulating treatment *** this review,we have examined previous studies on the esophageal microbiome in healthy individuals and patients with EC or other esophageal diseases,with a focus on identifying microbial communities associated with EC pathogenesis and *** the role of the microbiome in EC may aid in early detection and optimized treatment strategies,ultimately leading to better outcomes for patients.

The lungs were long thought to be sterile until technical advances uncovered the presence of the lung microbial *** microbiome of healthy lungs is mainly derived from the upper respiratory tract(URT)microbiome but also has its own characteristic *** selection mechanisms in the lung,including clearance by coughing,pulmonary macrophages,the oscillation of respiratory cilia,and bacterial inhibition by alveolar surfactant,keep the microbiome transient and mobile,which is different from the microbiome in other *** pulmonary bacteriome has been intensively studied recently,but relatively little research has focused on the mycobiome and *** up-to-date review retrospectively summarizes the lung microbiome’s history,composition,and *** focus on the interaction of the lung microbiome with the oropharynx and gut microbiome and emphasize the role it plays in the innate and adaptive immune *** importantly,we focus on multiple respiratory diseases,including asthma,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),fibrosis,bronchiectasis,and *** impact of the lung microbiome on coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and lung cancer has also been comprehensively ***,by summarizing the therapeutic potential of the lung microbiome in lung diseases and examining the shortcomings of the field,we propose an outlook of the direction of lung microbiome research.

Chicken is an important food animal worldwide and plays an important role in human life by providing meat and *** recent significant advances in gut microbiome studies,a comprehensive study of chicken gut bacterial,archaeal,and viral genomes remains *** this study,we constructed a chicken multi-kingdom microbiome catalog(CMKMC),including 18,201 bacterial,225 archaeal,and 33,411 viral genomes,and annotated over 6,076,006 protein-coding genes by integrating 135 chicken gut metagenomes and publicly available metagenome-assembled genomes(MAGs)from ten *** found that 812 and 240 MAGs in our dataset were putative novel species and genera,respectively,far beyond what was previously *** newly unclassified MAGs were predominant in Phyla Firmicutes_A(n=263),followed by Firmicutes(n=126),Bacteroidota(n=121),and Proteobacteria(n=87).Most of the classified species-level viral oper-ational taxonomic units belong to ***,63.24%of chicken gut viromes are predicted to infect two or more hosts,including complete circular ***,we found that diverse auxiliary metabolic genes and antibiotic resistance genes were carried by ***,our CMKMC provides the largest integrated MAGs and viral genomes from the chicken gut to date,functional insights into the chicken gastrointestinal tract microbiota,and paves the way for microbial interventions for better chicken health and productivity.

Gut microbiota have been reported to play an important role in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors. Currently, clinical studies have identified specific gut microbiota and its metabolites associated with efficacy of immunotherapy in multiple types of *** investigations have elucidated that gut microbiota modulate the antitumor immunity and affect the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Certain microbiota and its metabolites may favorably remodel the tumor microenvironment by engaging innate and/or adaptive immune cells. Understanding how the gut microbiome interacts with cancer immunotherapy opens new avenues for improving treatment strategies. Fecal microbial transplants, probiotics, dietary interventions, and other strategies targeting the microbiota have shown promise in preclinical studies to enhance the immunotherapy. Ongoing clinical trials are evaluating these approaches. This review presents the recent advancements in understanding the dynamic interplay among the host immunity, the microbiome, and cancer immunotherapy, as well as strategies for modulating the microbiome, with a view to translating into clinical applications.

It has been confirmed that microplastics(MPs)are present in the *** study simulated secondary PE-MPs via aging and mechanical processes to evaluate their effects on Pak choi(Brassica rapa L.)over 21 *** common pollutants,dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT)and naphthalene,were used in the combined toxicity *** results indicated that the growth of Pak choi was significantly inhibited after exposure to secondary PE-MPs,and the combined effects were antagonistic,owing to the adsorption capacity of secondary PE-MPs to DDT and *** stress in Pak choi can be markedly affected,leading to oxidative damage to plant *** moisture content,soil bulk density,soil density,cation exchange capacity(CEC),and FDA hydrolase in the planted soils increased in the treated groups,and the TOC content changed *** also found that the microbial composition of the soil in the DDT and naphthalene groups showed more significant alterations than that in the other *** diversity analysis showed that species diversity increased in the combined groups but indicated a clear downward trend in the single MPs *** study suggests that secondary PE-MPs harm the growth of Pak choi and can change soil properties,revealing the harm to the ecosystem of MPs in the soil.

Oncolytic viruses(OVs),a group of replication-competent viruses that can selectively infect and kill cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact,are emerging as promising living anticancer *** traditional drugs composed of non-replicating compounds or biomolecules,the replicative nature of viruses confer unique pharmacokinetic properties that require further *** some pharmacokinetics studies of OVs,mechanistic insights into the connection between OV pharmacokinetics and antitumor efficacy remain ***,we characterized the pharmacokinetic profile of oncolytic virus M1(OVM)in immunocompetent mouse tumor models and identified the JAK-STAT pathway as a key modulator of OVM *** suppressing the JAK-STAT pathway,early OVM pharmacokinetics are ameliorated,leading to enhanced tumor-specific viral accumulation,increased AUC and Cmax,and improved antitumor *** than compromising antitumor immunity after JAK-STAT inhibition,the improved pharmacokinetics of OVM promotes T cell recruitment and activation in the tumor microenvironment,providing an optimal opportunity for the therapeutic outcome of immune checkpoint blockade,such as *** together,this study advances our understanding of the pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationship in OV therapy.

Plant-based milk alleviates antibiotics-induced intestinal barrier damage associated with modulation of gut microbiome and metabolome

Plant-based milk is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids， polyphenols and other bioactive compounds. This study investigated the effect of three plant-based milk (flaxseed milk， oat milk and soy milk) on the ceftriaxone-induced intestinal disorders， and compared the regulation patterns associated with gut microbiome and metabolome. The results showed plant-based milk alleviated the ceftriaxone caused cecum swelling， colonic tissue damage and intestinal microecological disorders. Meanwhile， administered plant-based milk decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine (tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α)， interleukin (IL-6)， interleukin (IL-1β) and oxidative stresses (malondialdehyde (MDA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the colon， as well as increasing the levels of tight junction proteins (Occludin， Claudin-1， and ZO-1) in the colon. Moreover， administration of plant-based milk modulated the intestinal microbiota by promoting the relative levels of beneficial bacteria (Bifidobacterium)， and inhibiting the harmful bacteria genus (Enterococcus). Furthermore， plant-based milk treatment significantly modulated glycerophospholipids metabolism (e.g. glycerophosphocholine) and arachidonic acid metabolism (e.g. prostaglandin G2 and arachidonic acid) in the serum. In conclusion， plant-based milk could alleviate antibiotic-related imbalance of barrier function damage， gut microbiota disorders and the reduction of metabolic disorders， which lays a foundation for exploring anti-inflammatory and intestinal micro-ecological approach to plant-based milk.

Hyaluronic acid(HA), a linear glycosaminoglycan polymer, is an inherent carbon source for gut microbiota and is capable of mitigating host inflammation by modulating gut microbiota. The length of hyaluronan can range from an oligomer to an extremely long-form up to millions of Daltons, and its biological functions depend on its molecular mass [1,2]. Presently, the precise mechanisms through which HA of varying molecular weights alleviates inflammation by modulating the gut microbiota remain unclear [3].

Sepsis progression is significantly associated with the disruption of gut ***,the modulatory mechanisms of gut microbiota operating during sepsis are still ***,we investigated how gut commensals impact sepsis development in a pre-clinical *** ligation and puncture(CLP)surgery was used to establish polymicrobial sepsis in *** depleted of gut microbiota by an antibiotic cocktail(ABX)exhibited a significantly higher level of mortality than *** determined by metabolomics analysis,ABX treatment has depleted many metabolites,and subsequent supplementation with L-rhamnose(rhamnose,Rha),a bacterial carbohydrate metabolite,exerted profound immunomodulatory properties with a significant enhancement in macrophage phagocytosis,which in turn improved organ damage and ***,rhamnose binds directly to and activates the solute carrier family 12(potassium-chloride symporter),member 4(SLC12A4)in macrophages and promotes phagocytosis by activating the small G-proteins,Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate1(Rac1)and cell division control protein 42 homolog(Cdc42).Interestingly,rhamnose has enhanced the phagocytosis capacity of macrophages from sepsis *** conclusion,by identifying SLC12A4 as the host interacting protein,we disclosed that the gut commensal metabolite rhamnose is a functional molecular that could promote the phagocytosis capacity of macrophages and protect the host against sepsis.
