●AIM:To investigate clinical characteristics of asymptomatic Terson syndrome and its clinical impact in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH).●METHODS:This retrospective,interventional study included 31 patients with aneurysmal SAH,and the medical records were *** addition to baseline characteristics of the study population such as age,sex,and underlying medical history,multi-modal imaging analysis,including fluorescein angiography(FA),spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT),were also *** Coma Scale(GCS),Hunt-Hess(HH)grade,and Fisher scale at the time of admission,and functional outcome by using modified Rankin Scale(mRS)at 6 mo were compared.●RESULTS:Of the 31 patients,10 patients(32.3%)were diagnosed with Terson *** the patients with Terson syndrome did not report visual symptoms at the time of ophthalmologic *** showed microvascular changes of retinal capillaries and varying degrees of disc ***-OCT allowed intuitive anatomical localization of multi-layered retinal hemorrhages and assessment of ellipsoid zone *** patients with Terson syndrome showed significantly worse GCS(P=0.047)and HH grade(P=0.025)than those without,except Ficher scale(P=0.385).There was no significant difference in the mRS(P=0.250)at 6 *** baseline factors,the HH grade was the only significant factor associated with Terson syndrome(B=1.079,P=0.016).●CONCLUSION:In our study,32.3%of the patients have Terson syndrome without visual *** baseline HH grade is significantly correlated with Terson syndrome,and there is no significant difference in the functional outcome between the patients with and without Terson *** syndrome may develop without any visual symptoms as shown in our study,and ophthalmologic screening may be recommended to prevent further visual deterioration especially in the patients with poor HH grade at the time of aneurysmal SAH.

Late clinical characteristics of infants with retinopathy of prematurity and treated with cryotherapy

AIM： To describe the clinical characteristics and late results of patients with retinopathy of prematurity（ROP）treated with ＂6h cryotherapy＂.·METHODS： Out of 1252 infants screened for ROP, 52 patients were treated with temporal 6h cryotherapy from1997 to 2005 were recalled to our clinic. Among these 23 patients were available and 46 eyes of 23 infants were included to evaluate for visual acuity, refractive error,ocular alignment, nystagmus, retinal examination（abnormal branching of retinal vessels, retinal thinning,latis degenerations, tortuosity of vessels, straightening of temporal vessels, narrowing of the angle of vessel in the juxtapapillary entrance, pigment changes, macular heterotopia）, optic atrophy and optic disc cupping, axial length at birth and axial length at 1y.·RESULTS： The median age at examination was 7（5-18）*** 32.6% of patients, the visual acuity was ≤20/200 and the mean best corrected visual acuity was 20/35 as measured with a Snellen chart. Mean spherical refractive error was-1.76±2.69 D. The degree of myopia at the last examination was found to be correlated with the elongation of the eye in the first year of life. Exotropia was present in 17.4%（n =8） of infants and esotropia in13%（n =6）. The most common retinal abnormality was abnormal branching of retinal vessels（82.6%） followed by retinal thinning（52.2%）.·CONCLUSION： The late clinical outcomes of infants with ROP treated in our clinic with cryotherapy seems to comparable with results of laser treatment.

Ultrathin Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty versus Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty:a fellow-eye comparison

Background:To compare the visual outcome and patients’satisfaction after ultrathin Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty(UT-DSAEK)and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty(DMEK)performed on fellow eyes of the same ***:In this retrospective study,the records of 18 pseudophakic patients affected by Fuchs endothelial dystrophy who underwent DMEK in one eye and UT-DSAEK in the fellow eye were *** corrected visual acuity(BCVA),corneal pachymetry,keratometry,corneal aberrations,photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity,and endothelial cell counts measured 12 months after surgery in either eye were analyzed and *** results of a satisfaction questionnaire were also ***:Twelve months after surgery,BCVA was not significantly different in UT-DSAEK and DMEK eyes(0.10±0.04 and 0.07±0.07 logMAR,respectively);at both 4-and 6 mm optical zones total and posterior corneal higher order aberrations(HOAs),posterior astigmatism and total coma were significantly lower after DMEK;BCVA in both groups was significantly correlated mainly with anterior corneal aberrations;contrast sensitivity was higher after DMEK especially in mesopic conditions and at medium spatial frequencies;the endothelial cell density was similar,although slightly higher in the UT-DSAEK group(p=0.10).The satisfaction questionnaire showed that although patients were highly satisfied from both procedures,more than half of them preferred DMEK and reported a more comfortable and quicker postoperative ***:DMEK and UT-DSAEK showed no evidence of difference in terms of postoperative BCVA,although DMEK had a better performance in terms of contrast sensitivity,posterior corneal aberrations and overall patient satisfaction.

The Corneal Endothelium in Children after Congenital Cataract Surgery--A Comparison of Pre- and Post-Operative Results

Three months after surgery, the research group showed significantly statistical improvement in visual acuity, a statistically significant decrease in corneal endothelial cell density, a statistically significant increase in the percentage of 5 and 8 sided cells and a statistically significant decrease in the percentage of six sided cells. Central corneal thickness and the percentage of 4 and 7 and more than 8 sided did not change in a statistically significant way. Comparing the test group and control group, no statistically significant differences were detected in the examined parameters. The present study also shows that the cornea in the eyes with congenital cataract does not show statistically significant changes in the density and the morphology of the corneal endothelial cells and the thickness of the cornea and in terms of corneal thickness in comparison to the corneas of healthy eyes. Although in corneas undergoing cataract occurs statistically significant changes, the influence of the cornea does not affect the improvement in visual acuity which was also demonstrated in this study.

AIM: To assess the efficacy of topical Semaphorin 3A(SEMA3A) in the treatment of allergic ***: Experimental allergic conjunctivitis(EAC)mice model induced by short ragweed pollen(SRW) in 4-week-old of BALB/c mice, mice were evaluated using haematoxylin and eosin(H&E) staining, immunofluor-escence and light microscope photographs. Early phase took the samples in 24 h after instillation and late phase took the samples between 4 to 14 d after the start of treatment. The study use of topical SEMA3A(10 U, 100 U,1000 U) eye drops and subconjunctival injection of SEMA3 A with same concentration. For comparison, five types of allergy eyedrops were quantified using clinical characteristics.· RESULTS: clinical score of composite ocular symptoms of the mice treated with SEMA3 A were significantly decreased both in the immediate phase and the late phase compared to those treated with commercial ophthalmic formulations and non-treatment mice. SEMA3 A treatment attenuates infiltration of eosinophils entering into conjunctiva in EAC mice. The score of eosinophil infiltration in the conjunctiva of SEMA3 A 1000 U-treated group were significantly lower than low-concentration of SEMA3 A treated groups and non-treated group. SEMA3 A treatment also suppressed T-cell proliferation in vitro and decreased serum total Ig E levels in EAC mice. Moreover, treatment of SEMA3 A suppressed Th2-related cytokines(IL-5, IL-13 and IL-4)and pro-inflammatory cytokines(IFN-γ, IL-17 and TNF-α)release, but increased regulatory cytokine IL-10 concentration in the conjunctiva of EAC ***: SEMA3 A as a biological agent, showed the beneficial activity in ocular allergic processes with the less damage to the intraocular tissue. It is expected that SEMA3 A may be contributed in patients with a more severe spectrum of refractory ocular allergic diseases including allergic conjunctivitis in the near future.

Orbital Adnexal Lymphoma Diagnostic Misalignment

Lymphomas are known as neoplasm’s caused by clone proliferation of B and T lymphocytes. Extranodal lymphoma arises from tissues other than lymph nodes or even from sites which normally doesn’t contain lymph tissues. Orbital adnexal lymphoma arises from eyelid, orbit, lacrimal glands or conjunctivae and it is totally different from intraocular lymphoma. Wide range of differential diagnosis including infectious inflammatory orbital disease, preseptal and orbital cellulitis, orbital idiopathic inflammatory disease-pseudotumors, especially dacryoadenitis and myositis and thyroid associate orbit disease makes the diagnosis of orbital adnexal lymphoma even more difficult. We represent the case of diagnostic delay of very aggressive form orbital non-Hodgkin lymphoma occurred because of the unspecific signs and symptoms as well as not indicative imaging investigation and laboratory tests.

Inhibited experimental corneal neovascularization by neutralizing anti-SDF-1α antibody

AIM: To explore the effect of SDF-1α on the development of experimental corneal neovascularization (CRNV).METHODS: CRNV was induced by alkali injury in mice. The expression of SDF-1α and CXCR4 in burned corneas was examined by Flow Cytometry. Neutralizing anti-mouse SDF-1α antibody was locally administrated after alkali injury and the formation of CRNV 2 weeks after injury was assessed by Immunohistochemistry. The expression of VEGF and C-Kit in burned corneas was detected by ***: The number of CRNV peaks at 2 weeks after alkali injury. Compared to control group, SDF-1α neutralizing antibody treatment significantly decreased the number of CRNV. RT-PCR confirmed that SDF-1α neutralizing antibody treatment resulted in decreased intracorneal VEGF and C-Kit ***: SDF-1α neutralizing antibody treated mice exhibited impaired experimental CRNV through down regulated VEGF and C-Kit expression.
