Cardiac valve replacement is an effective method to treat valvular heart *** valves used routinely in clinic still have *** our study,we explored a novel method to modify the performance of Decellularized Heart Valve(DHV)*** decellularized porcine aortic valve was prepared using sequential hydrophile and lipophile solubilization *** sericin was extracted from silk fibroin-deficient silkworm cocoon by lithium bromide ***,DHV was immersed in sericin solution to produce the sericin–DHV composite ***,we modified the DHV by making a Polydopamine(PDA)coating on the DHV first and then binding the *** physical properties and biological compatibility of our composite scaffold were assessed in vitro and in *** were successfully prepared,combined to DHV and improved its *** coating further promoted the combination of sericin on DHV and improved the physical properties of *** decay rate of our modified valve scaffold was decreased in vivo and it showed good compatibility with *** conclusion,our modification improved the physical properties and biocompatibility of the valve *** combination of PDA and sericin promoted the recellularization of decellularized valves,showing great potential to be a novel artificial valve.

Development of mucoadhesive sericin/alginate particles loaded with ibuprofen for sustained drug delivery

A sericin/alginate blend was successfully applied as a matrix for incorporation of *** provided a sustained release formulation,which could improve the therapeutic efficacy of ibuprofen and patient adherence to *** increased the proportion of drug incorporated into the particles (i.e., the drug incorporation efficiency),with incorporation rates between 73.01%±1.70%and 94.15%±4.21%. Performance measurement of sericin-coated silks during aging

Silks are among the most precious ancient and historic artefacts worldwide. While washing removes the natural gum from the fibres during the fabrication of most silk textiles, for a small proportion of historic silks some or perhaps all of the sericin still remains. This paper investigated the effect of sericin coating on the aging of silk fibroin by means of ATR and tensile testing. The results show that sericin can provide some extent of protection from light and heat aging. However, in high humidity environments degummed and ungummed silk aged at the same rate because of leaching of sericin. Silk degraded at faster rate and more extensively in a moist environment. ATR could give very useful information about the aging of silk. The ATR-derived crystallinity index is good at tracing the aging factor and extent of silk deterioration. Alanine and tyrosine within fibroin, as estimated by ATR spectroscopy, are very sensitive to light, but not to heat and water. The ATR absorbance intensity ratio Iamide Ⅲ/ Iamide I is very useful for deterioration evaluation of archaeological silk objects. As a high humidity resulted in the leaching of silk, it is suggested for sericin-coated silk in collections, that not only wet cleaning is harmful, but also that storage or display in a high RH environment would be detrimental.

Preparation of Molecularly Imprinted sericin/ Poly（vinyl alcohol） Electrospun Fibers for Selective Removal of Methylene Blue

sericin（SS）, as an abtmdant and renewable resource in nature, has been proven to be a good adsorbent for metal ions or organic dyes removal. In this study, glutaraldehyde vapor cross-linked sericin-based electrospun fiber adsorbent was developed for the removal of methylene blue（MB） from wastewater. To overcome the problem of decreasing adsorption capacity by excessive functional group cross-linking, MB-imprinted sericin/poly（vinyl alcohol）（PVA） electrospun fiber adsorbent was prepared. Biocompatible PVA was added to the electrospinning solution to improve the spinnability and mechanical property. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy（FTlR）, and so forth were used to confirm their structures and composition. The adsorption performance toward the template molecule MB, including pH effect, adsorption isotherm, adsorption kinetics, adsorption selectivity, and reusability, was investigated. By comparison with non-imprinted sericin/PVA electrospun fibers, MB-imprinted sericin/PVA electrospun fiber adsorbent showed an enhanced and selective adsorption capacity toward MB with a good regeneration and recycling ability. The adsorption test suggests that the resulting MB-imprinted sericin/PVA electrospun fibers are promising adsorbents for MB removal from aqueous system.

Chromosomal localization of silkworm (Bombyx mori) sericin gene 1 and chymotrypsin inhibitor 13 using fluorescence in situ hybridization

The chromosomal locations of two single-copy genes, Ser-1 and CI-13, in silkworm (Bombyx mori) were detected at the molecular cytogenetics level by fluorescence in situ hybridization in the study. The results showed that Ser-1 is located near the distal end of the 11th linkage group, relatively at the 12.5±1.4 position in pachytene; and that CI-13 has been mapped near the distal end of the 2nd linkage group, relatively at the 8.2±1.2 position in pachytene. Furthermore, their location model map-FISH map on silkworm chromosome was drawn. The FISH technique and its application to silkworm are also discussed in this paper.

Novel sericin-based hepatocyte serum-free medium and sericin's effect on hepatocyte transcriptome

sericin protects against diabetes-induced injuries in sciatic nerve and related nerve cells

sericin from discarded silkworm cocoons of silk reeling has been used in different fields, such as cosmetology, skin care, nutrition, and oncology. The present study established a rat model of type 2 diabetes by consecutive intraperitoneal injections of low-dose （25 mg/kg） streptozotocin. After intragastrical perfusion of sericin for 35 days, blood glucose levels significantly declined, and the expression of neurofilament protein in the sciatic nerve and nerve growth factor in L4-6 spinal ganglion and anterior horn cells significantly increased. However, the expression of neuropeptide Y in spinal ganglion and anterior horn cells significantly decreased in model rats. These findings indicate that sericin protected the sciatic nerve and related nerve cells against injury in a rat type 2 diabetic model by upregulating the expression of neurofilament protein in the sciatic nerve and nerve growth factor in spinal ganglion and anterior horn cells, and downregulating the expression of neuropeptide Y in spinal ganglion and anterior horn cells.

sericin can reduce hippocampal neuronal apoptosis by activating the Akt signal transduction pathway in a rat model of diabetes mellitus

In the present study, a rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus was established by continuous peritoneal injection of streptozotocin. Following intragastric perfusion of sericin for 35 days, blood glucose levels significantly reduced, neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampal CA1 region decreased, hippocampal phosphorylated Akt and nuclear factor kappa B expression were enhanced, but Bcl-xL/Bcl-2 associated death promoter expression decreased. Results demonstrated that sericin can reduce hippocampal neuronal apoptosis in a rat model of diabetes mellitus by regulating abnormal changes in the Akt signal transduction pathway.

Developing novel antibacterial dressing protecting skin injuries from infection is essential for wound *** this study,sericin,a bio-waste produced during the degumming of silk cocoons,is utilized to exfoliate MoS_(2)layers and improve the dispersity and stability of MoS_(2)nanosheets(MoS_(2)-NSs).Moreover,owing to its ability to promote oxygen permeability and cell growth and its good biocompatibility,MoS_(2)-NS/sericin maintains its photothermal property under an 808 nm light source for a strong antibacterial activity as well as improves the fibroblast migration,which accelerates wound ***-thermore,the in vitro experiments indicates that MoS_(2)-NS/sericin can also scavenge reactive oxygen species(ROS)at an inflammatory stage of wound healing and transform classical activated macrophages(M1-type)into alternatively activated macrophages(M2-type),which is beneficial for wound *** on these results observed in vitro,full-thickness skin wound experiments are conducted on rats,and the corresponding results show that MoS_(2)/sericin under 808 nm irradiation exhibits the best performance in promoting wound ***,MoS_(2)-NS/sericin exhibits a high potential for bacteria-infected wound healing.
