Although the cytoplasm of spermatids is removed at the end of spermiogenesis, a tiny portion is usually retained in the sperm flagellum, which is termed the cytoplasmic droplet （CD） in mammals. CDs are believed to play a role in sperm volume adaptation. However, we have noticed that epididymal spermatozoa that display initial （flagellation in situ） and progressive motility mostly possess CDs, whereas spermatozoa without CDs are rarely motile, suggesting that CDs have a role in motility development during sperm epididymal maturation. In the present study, we analyzed the relationship between the presence or absence of CDs, motility development and positional changes of CDs during sperm epididymal maturation in mice and monkeys. We also examined CDs on spermatozoa of three knockout mouse lines with late spermiogenic defects. Our data suggest that the CD is a normal organelle transiently present exclusively on epididymal spermatozoa, and normal CD morphology and location are associated with normal motility development during epididymal maturation of spermatozoa. Abnormal CD formation, e.g., a complete lack of CDs or ectopic CDs, is indicative of defective spermiogenesis. If CDs are essential for sperm motility development, then CDs may represent an ideal drug target for the development of non-hormonal male contraceptives.

The swamp eel(Monopterus albus)is a commonly cultured freshwater *** and cultivation of fecund broodstock is crucial for efficient artificial reproduction in this ***,there are currently no guidelines for selecting high-quality males in *** study quantitatively investigated the sperm motility of male swamp eels during the breeding season by using computer-assisted sperm analysis *** in the proportion and number of motile sperm was observed between individual *** testes were grouped into high-quality and low-quality according to sperm *** parameters of the two groups were *** found that high-quality testes were longer(150±27 mm verses 127±19 mm)than low-quality ***,the proportion of testes with a dark appearance was slightly higher(58.3%verses 48.1%)in the high-quality group than in the low-quality *** analysis was conducted to compare the metabolite profiles of high-quality and low-quality ***,organic acids,glycerolipids,amino acids,sphingolipids,and nucleotides were the most abundant metabolites in the testes of swamp ***,135 differential metabolites were *** nucleotide derivatives,including 50-deoxyadenosine,20-deoxyadenosine,and ribosyl adenosine,were the most significantly enriched metabolites in highquality *** metabolites are potential indicators for the testis quality in ***,our work provides systematic and quantitative data about the physiological and biochemical characteristics of *** testis,which provides an evidential basis for the selection of high-fecundity parents to improve artificial reproduction efficiency of ***.

In mammals, sperm guidance in the oviduct appears essential for successful sperm arrival at the oocyte. Hitherto, three different potential sperm guidance mechanisms have been recognized： thermotaxis, rheotaxis, and chemotaxis, each of them using specific stimuli - a temperature gradient, fluid flow, and a chemoattractant gradient, respectively. Here, we review sperm behavioral in these mechanisms and indicate commonalities and differences between them.

In order to make the synthetic route of Thiamidol more efficient and easier to scale up,a new method was *** compound 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone was dissolved in ethyl acetate and brominated with cupric *** bromination,the mixture was filtered to remove cuprous *** obtained ethyl acetate solution containing 2-bromo-1-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethanone was directly reacted with(2-methylpropanoyl)thiourea to obtain the precipitate of Thiamidol *** precipitate was neutralized by deacidification and recrystallized to afford Thiamidol with high *** addition,in the screening of fertility-promoting substances,Thiamidol was found to be effective in protecting human sperm from motility loss in *** suggests that it may have potential application in fertility protection and promotion.

Objective:To determine the effect of oral selenium supplementation and semen collection methods on various post thaw semen quality parameters in Saanen ***:Sixteen healthy bucks were divided into two equal groups(n=8 each).The treatment group received selenium at 10-day intervals for three *** kinematic parameters,morphological parameters,mitochondrial membrane potential,plasma membrane functionality,and sperm DNA integrity were evaluated weekly pre and ***:The mean percentages of the morphological abnormalities were significantly lower in the selenium-supplemented samples when semen was collected by using artificial vagina method(Psperm parameters such as total motility and progressive motility were significantly higher when semen was obtained by artificial vagina in the selenium-supplemented bucks compared to the electro-ejaculation and the control groups(Psperm kinematic parameters such as curvilinear velocity,average path velocity,and amplitude of lateral head displacement were significantly higher when semen was collected by artificial vagina in the selenium-treated bucks(Psperm with intact and functional plasma membrane and functional mitochondria were significantly higher in the selenium-supplemented samples collected with artificial vagina compared to the electro-ejaculation method and the control groups(Psperm quality parameters of Saanen buck.

To clarify the role of endogenous relaxin on sperm motility, relaxin in semen was neutralized by anti relaxin antibody in vitro. 22 semen samples were collected from infertility clinic and tested with Hamilton Thorn 2000 motility Analyzer to detect sperm motility (%), progressive motility (%), path velocity (micro/sec) and velocity (0～4 grade) at the time of 0, 15, 30 and 60 min respectively. The results showed that sperm motility declined significantly after being incubated with anti relaxin serum. sperm progressive motility declined more obviously. This experiment revealed that endogenous relaxin could play an important role in the physiological process of maintaining sperm motility, especially progressive motility.

Aim: To evaluate the antireproductive effect of paracetamol in male rats. Methods: Male rats were orally adminis-tered daily with 500 mg/kg or 1000 mg/kg of paracetamol for 30 consecutive days. Their sexual behaviour and fertilitywere evaluated using receptive females. Results: At 2 h after treratment, sexual behaviour was not inhibited but onday 30 both doses of paracetamol caused marked impairment of libido (assessed by % mounting, % intromission and% ejaculation), sexual vigour (number of mounts and intromissions and copulatory efficiency) or sexual performance(intercopulatory interval). In mating experiments, the fertility (in terms of quantal pregnancy, fertility index, implan-tation index and number of implants) was significantly reduced. All these effects were reversible. The antireproductiveeffect was not due to a general toxicity but due to an increase in pre-implantation losses resulting from oligozoospermia,impairments of normal and hyper-activated sperm motility, and reduction in the fertilizing potential of ***: Long-term use of high doses of paracetamol may be detrimental to male reproductive competence.( Asian J Andro12000 Dec; 2: 247-255 )
