Combined MELD and blood lipid level in evaluating the prognosis of decompensated cirrhosis

AIM: To evaluate the prognostic value of the combined model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) and blood lipid level in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. METHODS: A total of 198 patients with decompensated cirrhosis were enrolled into the study. The values of triglyceride (TG), cholesterol (TC), high density lipoproteins (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) of each patient on the fi rst day of admission were retrieved from the medical records, and MELD was calculated. All the patients were followed up for 1 year. The relationship between the change of blood lipid level and the value of MELD score was studied by analysis of variance. The prognostic factors were screened by multivariate Cox proportional hazard model. Draw Kaplan-Meier survival curves were drawn. RESULTS: Forty-f ive patients died within 3 mo and 83 patients died within 1 year. The levels of TG, TC, HDL and LDL of the death group were all lower than those of the survivors. The serum TG, TC, HDL and LDL levels were lowered with the increase of the MELD score. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard model showed that MELD ≥18 and TC ≤2.8 mmol/L were independent risk factors for prognosis of decompensated cirrhosis. Survival analysis showed that MELD ≥18 combined with TC ≤ 2.8 mmol/L can clearly discriminate between the patients who would survive and die in 1 year. CONCLUSION: MELD ≥18 and TC ≤2.8 mmol/L are two important indexes to predict the prognosis of patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Their combination can effectively predict the long-term prognosis of patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

Comparative effects of plant oils and trans-fat on blood lipid profiles and ischemic stroke in rats

Since plant oils are believed to be better than animal fats for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, the effects of various plant oils and trans-fat on blood lipid profiles and ischemic stroke were investigated. Sprague- Dawley rats were fed a diet containing the oils or trans-fat, and then body weights, blood lipids, and effects on brain infarction and physical dysfunction induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion （MCAO） were analyzed. All the oils and trans-fat, except perilla oil, significantly increased body fats and body weight gain. Sesame oil and trans-fat specifically increased blood cholesterols and triglycerides, respectively, while perilla oil decreased both cholesterols and triglycerides. Perilla oil not only attenuated cerebral infarction, but also restored locomotor activity and rota-rod performances of MCAO rats. It is suggested that perilla oil among oils and fats could be the first choice to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome and ischemic stroke.

Lowering of blood lipid Levels with a Combination of Pitavastatin and Ezetimibe in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease:A Meta-Analysis

Objectives:According to the findings of randomized controlled trials,blood lipid levels in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD)can be significantly decreased through a combination of pitavastatin and ezetimibe;however,the effects and clinical applications of this treatment remain *** meta-analysis was aimed at objectively assessing the efficacy and safety of pitavastatin and ezetimibe in lowering blood lipid ***:Relevant studies were retrieved from electronic databases,including PubMed,Cochrane Library,Embase,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,VIP,and WanFang Data,from database inception to June 8,*** lev-els of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,total cholesterol,triglycerides,and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in patients’serum after treatment were the primary ***:Nine randomized controlled trials(2586 patients)met the inclusion *** meta-analysis indi-cated that pitavastatin plus ezetimibe resulted in significantly lower levels of LDL-C[standardized mean difference(SMD)=−0.86,95%confidence interval(CI)(−1.15 to−0.58),P<0.01],TC[SMD=−0.84,95%CI(−1.10 to−0.59),P<0.01],and TG[SMD=−0.59,95%CI(−0.89 to−0.28),P<0.01]than pitavastatin ***:Pitavastatin plus ezetimibe significantly decreased serum LDL-C,TC,and TG levels in patients with CHD.

Effect of Tai Chi exercise on blood lipid profiles: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Objective： Studies have demonstrated that Tai Chi exercise improves blood lipid level with inconsistent results. A meta-analysis was conducted to quantify the effects of Tai Chi on blood lipid profiles in humans. Methods： We screened the databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library （Central）, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure （CNKI）, Wanfang data, and *** for randomized controlled trials with Physio- therapy Evidence Database （PEDro） score more than 3 points up to June 2015. Six studies involving 445 subjects were included. Most trials applied 12-week Tai Chi intervention courses. Results： In comparison with the control group, blood triglyceride （TG） level difference between follow-up and baseline was statistically significantly lower in the Tai Chi practicing group （weighted mean difference （WMD） -16.81 mg/dl; 95% confidence intervals （CI） -31.27 to -2.35 mg/dl; P=-0.02）. A trend to improving total cholesterol （TC） reduction was found with Tai Chi （WMD -7.96 mg/dl; 95% CI -17.30 to 1.39 mg/dl; P=-0.10）. However, no difference was found in blood low-density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C） or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C）. Conclusions： Tai Chi exercise lowered blood TG level with a trend to decrease blood TC level. Our data suggest that Tai Chi has the potential to implement meaningful blood lipid modification and serve as an adjunctive exercise modality. The relationship between Tai Chi exercise regimen and lipid profile change might have a scientific priority for future investigation.

Objective:The study aims to explore the interventional effect of Abrus cantonensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their compatibility on blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic mice and to explore the optimal ratio of efficacy of their ***:SPF Kunming male mice were fed with high sugar and high fat diet for 6 weeks and then intraperitoneally injected with STZ solution to establish a diabetes *** successfully modeled mice were randomly divided into 6 groups according to their body weight:model group,Abrus Cantoniensis group,Armeniaca mume Sieb group,as well as Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb group divided into 1:2,1:1 and 2:1 groups according to volume ratio with 10 mice in each *** 10 healthy mice were taken as blank group and intraperitoneally injected with sodium citrate *** corresponding solution was given intragastric administration by body mass once a day for 20 *** the last administration,fasting was performed for 12 *** was collected by the method of eyeball blood collection to determine the contents of fasting blood glucose,total cholesterol Triacylglycerol,triglyceride,low density lipoprotein and high-density ***:Compared with Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb groups,Glu,TG,TC and LDL-C of the three compatibility groups significantly decreased,with the most significant decrease in the compatibility group 1:2,while there was no significant difference in HDL-C among all ***:Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their combination have synergistic effects on the improvement of blood glucose and lipid levels in mice with high glucose and high fat combined with STZ-induced diabetes mellitus *** all the experimental groups,the compatibility 1:2 group had the best effect.

Objective： Dyslipidemia is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease. At present, studies have shown that theincidence of cardiovascular disease in our country increased year by year. According to WHO statistics in 2013, itshowed that about 17 million people worldwide die from coronary heart disease （CHD） every year. Currently, CHDis the first cause of death in western countries and the incidence of CHD also showed a trend of increasing. Inrecent years more experts and scholars at home and abroad found gene polymorphism is closely related tohigh-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDLC） gene and triglyceride （TG） levels. Apolipoprotein （APO） gene is akind of popular polymorphic proteins, whose genetic polymorphisms is through the impact of lipid metabolism,and then closely related to cerebrovascular diseases. But the results are different in different populations and races,or even the opposite. Methods： This review will summarize the gene polymorphism loci of commonapolipoprotein-ApoA1, ApoA5, Apo B, ApoC3, ApoE, which is associated with lipid levels and cardiovasculardisease. Effects of compound danshen dripping pills on the levels of serum inflammatory factors, brain natriuretic peptide and blood lipid in CABG postoperative patients

Objective:To explore the effects of compound danshen dripping pills on the levels of serum inflammatory factors,brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)and blood lipid in CABG postoperative ***:156 cases of patients who were given CABG from January 2015 to January 2018 in Baogang Hospital were chosen and randomly divided into the observation group(n=78)and the control group(n=78).Both groups were given conventional drugs,simultaneously,the observation group was given compound danshen dripping *** treatment lasted 3 *** clinical efficacy was compared between two groups of patients,and the levels of serum inflammatory factors,plasma BNP and blood lipid before and after treatment in two groups of patients were detected in order to make a comparison in the incidence of adverse cardiac events between two groups of ***:After treatment,the total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group;in the two groups,the levels of serum interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-8(IL-8),C-reactive protein and plasma BNP after treatment were obviously lower than those before treatment,and these indicators in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(pblood lipid metabolism and reduce the incidence of adverse cardiac events in CABG postoperative patients.

Effects of Garlicin on Unstable Angina Pectoris and Its Relationship with blood lipid and Granule Membrane Protein-140

Objective: To observe the clinical effects of Garlicin on unstable angina pectoris (UAP) and explore how the Garlicin's effects vary among syndromes as defined by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).Methods: Fifty-five patients with UAP were randomly divided into the Garlicin group (34 patients) and the control group (21 patients). Each patient was classified according to TCM Syndrome Differentiation as having Cold Syndrome type, Heat Syndrome type, severe blood stasis (SBS) type, and mild blood stasis (MBS) type of UAP. Garlicin 60 mg or nitroglycerin 5 mg was given to the two groups respectively by intravenous drip for 10days as one therapeutic course. The curative effect was evaluated by symptomatic changes and electrocardiogram. The effective rates as well as indexes such as blood lipid, lipoprotein, apolipoprotein, and granule membrane protein-140 (GMP-140) were compared between groups and types. Results: Garlicin and nitroglycerin group did not differ significantly in effective rate, while that of Garlicin group was higher for the Cold Syndrome type than that of Heat Syndrome type (P blood lipid levels and inhibiting platelet activation.
