A Co(II)‐catalyzed effective synthesis of amidinium imine derivatives from the reaction of isocyanides and boric acids using organic azides as nitrene source has been developed. This protocol provides a new, environment‐friendly and simple strategy to construct amidinium imine derivatives with a range of substrates without any oxidants and additives.

Reduction of azides to amines without touching benzyl, t-butyldimethylsilyl, t-butyldiphenylsilyl, trityl and tetrahydropyranyl ether protecting groups, C-C double and triple bond, as well as aromatic bromide and nitrile functional groups, was achieved using sodium amalgam as a reducing reagent in methanol at temperature from -40℃ to room temperature. However, ester group was reduced under this condition.

The azides were reduced to the corresponding amines by two new metal/Lewis acid systems in water or in aqueous EtOH in yields ranging from 80%-95%. The reaction rates were faster in water than in aqueous EtOH in most cases. All 16 azides with different functional groups were well reduced to the corresponding amines in excellent yields and reaction rates.

The energy bands, electronic structures and relationship between structures and properties of the crystalline alkali metal azides, LiN3, α-NaN3 and KN3, are investigated at the DFT-B3LYP level. The crystalline bulks are predicted to be insulator, speculated from their band gaps of ca. 0.23-0.25 a.u. and from their level frontier bands. The atomic overlaps and electron densities show that the metals and the azides are combined by ionic bonds. The crystal lattice energies, being corrected for the basis set superposition errors, are -852.30, -771.45 and - 614.78 kJ·mol-1 for LiN3, a-NaN3 and KN3 respectively. These values are similar to those by Gray’s approximate method. The frontier crystal orbital mainly consists of the atomic orbital of the terminal nitrogen of azides. The contribution of the metallic orbital to the LUMO is very small. The electron transition from the HOMO to the LUMO is difficult to occur. A novel octazido substituted nanobuilding precursor, octakis[dimethy（p-azidomethylene）siloxyl]octasilsesquioxane （ODA）, was prepared by the conventional diazo-transfer reaction of octalds[dimethy（p-chloromethylene）silyl]octasilsesquioxane （ODC） with NAN3, and its structure was characterized by FT-IR, 1H, a3C, 29Si NMR and MALDI-TOF MS, respectively. The structural rearrangement of POSS core in the synthesis strategy of ODA developed in this work was effectively prohibited in comparison with traditionary azidization process. The resultant ODA was not only soluble in common solvents such as CHC13, THF, toluene, DMF and DMSO, but also could effectively serve as a versatile nanobuilding precursor for the architecture of well-defined organic- inorganic hybrids via click chemistry.

Ligands containing NH groups often show special *** this paper,a well-defined dinuclear Cu（II） complex bearing an unsymmetrical bipyridine-pyrazole-amine ligand was synthesized by the condensation of N–H to release *** sodium L-ascorbate as a reductant,the binuclear complex showed excellent activity in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions between alkynes and azides to obtain 1,4-disubstituted triazoles in 95%–99% isolated yields.
