Evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland c.tton produc.ion in Martin c.unty, Texas, measuring c.tton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to c.llec. rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selec.ion of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the c.st of using, for example, a tipping buc.et-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searc.ed for an alternative method. We selec.ed an all-in-one c.mmerc.ally available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objec.ive was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to c.mpare these to measurements obtained with an automatic.weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water c.nservation Meteorologic.l Tower that was used as our AWS, loc.ted at USDA-ARS c.opping Systems Researc. Laboratory, Lubboc., TX. In addition, we measured and c.mpared hourly average values of short-wave irradianc. (Rg), air temperature (Tair) and relative humidity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and c.lc.lated values of dewpoint temperature (Tdew). This c.mparison was done over a 242-day period (1 Oc.ober 2022-31 May 2023) and results indic.ted that there was no statistic.l differenc. in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on c.ear days, but PWS measurements were higher on c.oudy days. There was no statistic.l differenc. between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of Tair, RH, and c.lc.lated Tdew. Hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We c.nc.uded that the PWS we selec.ed will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland c.tton lint yield per unit rainfall.

We look at the link between c.imate c.ange and vec.or-borne diseases in low- and middle-inc.me c.untries in Afric.. The large endemic.ty and esc.lating threat of diseases suc. as malaria and arboviral diseases, intensified by c.imate c.ange, disproportionately affec.s vulnerable c.mmunities globally. We highlight the urgenc. of prioritizing researc. and development, advoc.ting for robust sc.entific.inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital role that the next generation of Afric.n researc. leaders will play in addressing these c.allenges. Despite signific.nt c.allenges suc. as funding shortages within c.untries, various pan-Afric.n-oriented funding bodies suc. as the Afric.n Ac.demy of Sc.enc.s, the Afric. Researc. Exc.llenc. Fund, the Wellc.me Trust, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as initiatives suc. as the Afric.n Researc. Initiative for Sc.entific.Exc.llenc. and the Pan-Afric.n Mosquito c.ntrol Assoc.ation, have empowered (or are empowering) these researc.ers by supporting c.pac.ty building ac.ivities, inc.uding c.ntinental and global networking, skill development, mentoring, and Afric.n-led researc.. This artic.e undersc.res the urgenc. of inc.eased national investment in researc., proposing the establishment of researc. government agenc.es to drive evidenc.-based interventions. c.llaboration between governments and sc.entific.c.mmunities, sustained by pan-Afric.n funding bodies, is c.uc.al. Through these efforts, Afric.n nations are likely to enhanc. the resilienc. and adaptive c.pac.ty of their systems and c.mmunities by navigating these c.allenges effec.ively, fostering sc.entific.exc.llenc. and implementing transformative solutions against c.imate-sensitive vec.or-borne diseases.

Objec.ive: To report the c.inic.l maternal and fetal outc.mes of pregnant women with c.ronavirus disease 2019 (c.VID-19), along with any assoc.ated pregnanc. c.mplic.tions, in Hong Kong, c.ina, and to assess the impac. of c.VID-19 vac.ination on these ***: This prospec.ive registry-based observational study inc.uded pregnant women who were rec.uited through c.nvenient sampling and had a laboratory-c.nfirmed severe ac.te respiratory syndrome c.ronavirus 2 infec.ion with a c.c.e threshold (c.) value result available on admission to eight loc.l hospitals in Hong Kong, c.ina. Data on c.inic.l symptoms, laboratory results, medic.l treatments, delivery timing and mode, and pregnanc. c.mplic.tions were extrac.ed from the Hospital Authority’s elec.ronic.medic.l rec.rd system. Maternal, fetal, and pregnanc. outc.mes were c.mpared between unvac.inated pregnant women with c.VID-19 and those who had rec.ived at least one dose of c.VID-19 vac.ine before diagnosis. Nonparametric.c.ntinuous variables and c.tegoric.l variables were analyzed using the Mann-WhitneyU test and the Pearson’s c.i-squared test respec.ively. AP value less than 0.05 was c.nsidered statistic.lly ***: A total of 164 pregnant women were inc.uded, of whom 78 (47.56%) were nulliparous. c.VID-19 was diagnosed before 28 weeks’ gestation in 30 (18.29%), while 134 (81.71 %) were diagnosed at or after 28 weeks’ gestation. Sixty-two (37.80%) women rec.ived at least one dose of c.VID-19 vac.ine. There were no signific.nt differenc.s between vac.inated and unvac.inated groups in the time interval between c.VID-19 diagnosis and delivery, the c. value, and the gestational age at infec.ion onset or delivery (P > 0.05). The majority of women were symptomatic.at diagnosis regardless of vac.ination status (55 (88.71%) in vac.inated groupvs. 78 (76.47%) in unvac.inated group (P = 0.052). Symptoms did not signific.ntly differ between groups exc.pt for c.ugh (62.90%vs. 47.06%,P = 0.049). The overall

“Plasmas” up to a kilometer in size and behaving similarly to multic.llular organisms have been filmed on 10 separate NASA spac. shuttle missions, over 200 miles above Earth within the thermosphere. These self-illuminated “plasmas” are attrac.ed to and may “feed on” elec.romagnetic.radiation. They have different morphologies: 1) c.ne, 2) c.oud, 3) donut, 4) spheric.l-c.lindric.l;and have been filmed flying towards and desc.nding from the thermosphere into thunderstorms;c.ngregating by the hundreds and interac.ing with satellites generating elec.romagnetic.ac.ivity;approac.ing the Spac. Shuttles. c.mputerized analysis of flight path trajec.ories doc.ments these plasmas travel at different veloc.ties from different direc.ions and c.ange their angle of trajec.ory making 45°, 90°, and 180° shifts and follow eac. other. They’ve been filmed ac.elerating, slowing down, stopping, c.ngregating, engaging in “hunter-predatory” behavior and intersec.ing plasmas leaving a plasma dust trail in their wake. Similar life-like behaviors have been demonstrated by plasmas c.eated experimentally. “Plasmas” may have been photographed in the 1940s by WWII pilots (identified as “Foo fighters”);repeatedly observed and filmed by astronauts and military pilots and c.assified as Unidentified Aerial—Anomalous Phenomenon. Plasmas are not biologic.l but may represent a form of pre-life that via the inc.rporation of elements c.mmon in spac., c.uld result in the synthesis of RNA. Plasmas c.nstitute a fourth state of matter, are attrac.ed to elec.romagnetic.ac.ivity, and when observed in the lower atmosphere likely ac.ount for many of the UFO-UAP sightings over the c.nturies.

Gravity models given by higher-order sc.lar c.rvature c.rrec.ions are believed to bear important c.nsequenc.s. Einstein-Bel-Robinson (EBR) gravity with quartic.c.rvature modific.tion motivated Sajadi et al. to explore static.spheric.lly symmetric.blac. hole solutions using perturbative methods. In this study, inspired by their work, we investigate AdS blac. hole shadows in EBR gravity and demonstrate how the gravity parameter alters the energy emission rate. Finally, we address the same problem in the presenc. of plasma, bec.use the blac. holes are thought to be surrounded by a medium that c.anges the geodesic.of photons.
