The excess consumption of alcohol is associated with alcoholic liver diseases(ALD). ALD is a major healthcare problem, personal and social burden, and significant reason for economic loss worldwide. The ALD spectrum includes alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. The diagnosis of ALD is based on a combination of clinical features, including a history of significant alcohol intake, evidence of liver disease, and laboratory findings. Abstinence is the most important treatment for ALD and the treatment plan varies according to the stage of the disease. Various treatments including abstinence, nutritional therapy, pharmacological therapy, psychotherapy, and surgery are currently available. For severe alcoholic hepatitis, corticosteroid or pentoxifylline are recommended based on the guidelines. In addition, new therapeutic targets are being under investigation.

For recent decades, a considerable amount of 99mTc has been stimulated for diagnosis radiopharmaceuticals because of its physical advantages. The increase in the use of 99mTc makes naturally more chances of internal exposure for not only patients but also medical workers. The patient internal exposure by an intravenous injection has been assessed relatively well with the reports of International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) or Medical Internal Radiation Dose(MIRD). However, there are few studies which can support its accurate assessment for medical worker who treats 99mTc. In spite of the absence of information, the physiological information of each 99mTc-labelled compound for patient, provided by ICRP, can be used optionally for worker exposure because the behaviors after uptake to blood are similar for patient and worker. Using the data, in this study, the data for bioassay were given as the intake whole-body retention and urinary excretion function. We selected the two most frequently used 99mTc-labelled compounds based on statistical data;99mTc-phosphonate, pertechnetate. The data of the Human Alimentary Tract Model (HATM, publication 100) and the revised Human Respiratory Tract Model (revised HRTM, OIR) were used for compartment models which depict the physiological behavior in body after intake. In case of 99mTc-phosphonate, we adopted the systemic model for patient intake described in ICRP publication 53 based on the assumption that the behaviors after uptake to blood are similar for patient and worker. On the other hand, recent updated systemic model in OIR report could be directly adopted for pertechnetate. We used Birchall's algorithm for calculation and developed the module which could calculate the retention amounts in each compartment at given time by MATLAB. AIM： To evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of patients with metastases to the gallbladder （MGBs）. METHODS： We performed a single-center retrospective study of 20 patients with MGBs diagnosed pathologically from 1999 to 2007. RESULTS： Among 417 gallbladder （GB） malignancies, 20 （4.8%） were MGBs. The primary malignancies originated from the stomach （n = 8）, colorectum （n = 3）, liver （n = 2）, kidney （n = 2）, skin （n = 2）, extrahepatic bile duct （n = 1）, uterine cervix （n = 1）, and appendix （n = 1）. Twelve patients were diagnosed metachronously, presenting with cholecystitis （n = 4）, abdominal pain （n = 2）, jaundice （n = 1）, weight loss （n = 1）, and serum CA 19-9 elevation （n = 1）; five patients were asymptomatic. The median survival after the diagnosis of MGB was 8.7 mo. On Cox regression analysis, R0 resection was the only factor associated with a prolonged survival [hazard ratio （HR）： 0.01, P = 0.002]; presentation with cholecystitis was associated with poor survival （HR： 463.27, P = 0.006）. CONCLUSION： MGBs accounted for 4.8% of all pathologically diagnosed GB malignancies. The most common origin was the stomach. The median survival of MGI3 was 8.7 mo.

AIM: To describe the clinical features and multimodal images of unilateral foveomacular retinitis in young Korean soldiers. METHODS: Ten patients having foveomacular retinitis were included. Fluorescein angiography, fundus autofluorescence(FAF), infrared reflectance(IR), and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) were ***: All patients were young males experienced insidious visual decline without exposure to bright light. Initial and final vision ranged from hand movement to 20/20(median 20/200) and 20/2000 to 20/20(median 20/500), respectively. Vision decreased in 6 patients while improved in two. Typical macular abnormality was yellow granular spots. SD-OCT showed ellipsoid zone(EZ) or interdigitation zone(IZ) disruption of fovea. The degree of EZ/IZ damage correlated with vision. Lesions were clearly visualized through IR and matched with SD-OCT ***: This is the first case series of foveomacular retinitis diagnosed with multimodal imaging. Foveomacular retinitis should be suspected in sudden unilateral visual decline especially in young soldiers. SD-OCT is the most important diagnostic modality.
