the ground-state mass excess of the t_(z)=−2 drip-line nucleus ^(22)Al is measured for the first time as 18103(10)keV using the newly-developed Bρ-defined isochronous mass spectrometry method at the cooler storage ring in *** new mass excess value allowed us to determine the excitation energies of the two low-lying 1+states in ^(22)Al with significantly reduced uncertainties of 51 *** compared to the analogue states in its mirror nucleus ^(22)F,the mirror energy differences of the two 1^(+)states in the ^(22)Al-^(22)F mirror pair are determined to be−625(51)keV and−330(51)*** excitation energies and mirror energy differences are used to test the state-of-the-art ab initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations with four sets of interactions derived from the chiral effective field *** mechanism leading to the large mirror energy differences is investigated and attributed to the occupation of theπs_(1/2) orbital.

Application of Kelvin Probe to Studies of Fusion Reactor Materials under Irradiation

Recently, the work function （WF） changes in metallic and ceramic materials to be potentially used in future fusion reactors have been examined by means of Kelvin probe （KP）, under He ion irradiation in high energy （MeV） and / or low energy （500 eV） ranges. the results of polycrystalline Ni samples indicate that the 1 MeV beam only induces decrease in the WF within the experimental fluence range; whereas the irradiation of 500 eV beam results in decrease in the WF firstly, then increase till saturation. A dual layer surface model is employed to explain the observed phenomena, together with computer simulation results by SRIM code. Charges buildup on the surface of lithium ceramics has been found to greatly influence the probe output, which can be explained qualitatively using a model concerning an induction electric field due to external field and free charges on the ceramic surface.

Potential Oscillations of a Stainless Steel Electrode during Galvanostatic Polarization in a Mixed Solution of Sulfuric and Chromic Acids

Potential oscillations of a stainless steel electrode galvanostatically anodized have been observed in amixture of chromic and sulfuric acids. the potential regularly oscillated between 1.6 V vs. SCE (lower) and 2.1V(upper) with a certain frequency. the potential values are affected neither by the composition of chromic and sulfu-ric acids nor by the magnitude of applied current density although the potential frequency is very sensitive to theseparameters. this phenomenon is interpreted in terms of the repeated formation and disappearance of the saturatedlayer of dichromate ions on the electrode surface. Such scheme is consistent with the in situ FtIR spectroscopicresult that the concentration of Cr2O ions on the electrode surface increased with time during the polarization atthe lower potential but the change in concenetion of Cr2O ions was negligible at the higher potential.

Review: Prediction of Unexpected Fluid-Induced Vibration in Pipeline Network

this review considers unexpected destructive disasters involving fluid power plants, such as nuclear electric power plants and fluid power plants. It specifically addresses the possibility of fluid vibration induced in a pipeline network of such a plant. the authors investigate the flow oscillation induced within a t-junction for laminar steady flow at a Reynolds number less than 103 and clarify that there is a periodic fluid oscillation with a constant Strouhal number independent of several flow conditions. Generally, a nuclear electric power plant is constructed using straight pipes, elbows, and t-junctions. Indeed, a t-Junction is a basic fluid element of a pipeline network. the flow in a fluid power plant is turbulent. there are peculiar flow phenomena that occur at high Reynolds numbers, which are also seen in other flow situations;e.g., Kaman vortices are observed around a circular cylinder in low Reynolds numbers, around structures like bridges and downstream of islands in oceans. Although the flow situation of a t-junction and elbow in a fluid power plant, such as the fluid suddenly changing its flow direction is turbulent flow, the authors mention the possibility of the fluid-induced vibration of a pipeline network.

the number of patients with osteoporosis or type 2 diabetes mellitus(t2DM)is increasing in aging and westernized *** disorders predispose elderly people to disabling conditions by causing fractures and vascular complications,*** is well documented that bone metabolism and glucose/fat metabolism are etiologically related to each other through osteocalcin action and Wnt *** fragility in t2DM,which is not reflected by bone mineral density(BMD),depends on bone quality deterioration rather than bone mass ***,surrogate markers are needed to replace the insensitivity of BMD in assessing fracture risks of t2DM ***,the endogenous secretory receptor for advanced glycation endproducts,and insulin-like growth factor-I seem to be such candidates,although further studies are required to clarify whether or not these markers could predict the occurrence of new fractures of t2DM patients in a prospective fashion.

Deuterium Retention and Physical Sputtering of Low Activation Ferritic Steel

Low activation materials have to be developed toward fusion demonstrationreactors. Ferritic steel, vanadium alloy and SiC/SiC composite are candidate materials of the firstwall, vacuum vessel and blanket components, respectively. Although changes of mechanical-thermalproperties owing to neutron irradiation have been investigated so far, there is little data for theplasma material interactions, such as fuel hydrogen retention and erosion. In the present study,deuterium retention and physical sputtering of low activation ferritic steel, F82H, wereinvestigated by using deuterium ion irradiation apparatus. After a ferritic steel sample wasirradiated by 1.7 keV D^+ ions, the weight loss was measured to obtain the physical sputteringyield. the sputtering yield was 0.04, comparable to that of stainless steel. In order to obtain theretained amount of deuterium, technique of thermal desorption spectroscopy (tDS) was employed to theirradiated sample. the retained deuterium desorbed at temperature ranging from 450 K to 700 K, inthe forms of DHO, D_2, D_2O and hydrocarbons. Hence, the deuterium retained can be reduced by bakingwith a relatively low temperature. the fluence dependence of retained amount of deuterium wasmeasured by changing the ion fluence. In the ferritic steel without mechanical polish, the retainedamount was large even when the fluence was low. In such a case, a large amount of deuterium wastrapped in the surface oxide layer containing O and C. When the fluence was large, the thickness ofsurface oxide layer was reduced by the ion sputtering, and then the retained amount in the oxidelayer decreased. In the case of a high fluence, the retained amount of deuterium became comparableto that of ferritic steel with mechanical polish or SS 316 L, and one order of magnitude smallerthan that of graphite. Arabidopsis CBL-Interacting Protein Kinases Regulate Carbon/Nitrogen-Nutrient Response by Phosphorylating Ubiquitin Liqase AtL31

In response to the ratio of available carbon （C） and nitrogen （N） nutrients, plants regulate their metabolism, growth, and development, a process called the C/N-nutrient response. However, the molecular basis of C/N-nutrient signaling remains largely unclear. In this study, we identified three CALCINEURIN B-LIKE （CBL）-INtERACtING PROtEIN KINASES （CIPKs）, CIPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14, as key regulators of the C/N-nutrient response during the post-germination growth in Arabidopsis. Single-knockout mutants of ClPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14 showed hypersensitivity to high C/low N conditions, which was enhanced in their triple-knockout mutant, indicating that they play a negative role and at least partly function redun- dantly in the C/N-nutrient response. Moreover, these CIPKs were found to regulate the function of AtL31, a ubiquitin ligase involved in the C/N-nutrient response via the phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of 14-3-3 proteins. CIPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14 physically interacted with AtL31, and CIPK14, acting with CBL8, directly phosphorylated AtL31 in a Ca2＋-dependent manner. Further analyses showed that these CIPKs are required for AtL31 phosphorylation and stabilization, which medi- ates the degradation of 14-3-3 proteins in response to C/N-nutrient conditions. these findings provide new insights into C/N-nutrient signaling mediated by protein phosphorylationo

Restoring natural forests after field abandon- ment is a land management objective that fosters the re- covery of forest biodiversity. We performed seeding and transplanting of native tree species 40 years after the abandonment of an arable field that became dominated by a dwarf bamboo （Pleioblastus chino （Franch. et Sav.） Makino） and by kudzu （Pueraria lobata （Willd.） Ohwi）. By permutation tests, the removal of competing vegetation （gap creation） significantly increased the survival of three seeded species of Fagaceae and of eight transplanted spe- cies. In contrast, intact vegetation prevented most indi- viduals of all species from surviving for 1 year after planting. the lack of natural recruitment of Fagaceae in the nonseeded subplots indicated that seed limitation was a cause of the slow afforestation. Although litter accumula- tion in gaps at the time of seeding slightly increased sur- vival for late-germinating Quercus myrsinifolia Blume andCastanopsis sieboldii （Makino） Hatus. ex t. Yamaz. et Mashiba, the effect was not consistent among plots and was not statistically significant. Our results suggest that for successful afforestation using native trees in abandoned fields, it will be necessary to remove competitive native species to avoid severe limitations on microsite availability and that simultaneous tree establishment by seeding or transplanting should be implemented to accelerate the establishment of native tree species.
