Phase separations have been studied for graded-indium content In_xGa_（1-x）N/GaN multiple quantum wells（MQWs） with different indium contents by means of photoluminescence（PL）,cathodeluminescence（CL） and time-resolved PL（TRPL） *** the main emission peaks,all samples show another 2 peaks at the high and low energy parts of the main peaks in PL when excited at 10 *** images show a clear contrast for 3 samples,which indicates an increasing phase separation with increasing indium *** spectra at 15 K of the main emissions show an increasing delay of rising time with indium content,which means a carrier transferring from low indium content structures to high indium content structures.

AIM:To evaluate the potential usefulness of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) images for evaluation of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC)-associated radiofrequency ablation. METHODS:From January 2010 to June 2010,a total of 38 patients with HCC including recurred HCCs after RFA underwent ARFI elastography. The brightness of tumor was checked and the shear wave velocity was measure-d for the-quantification of stiffne-ss. According to theb-rightne-ss,the-tumors we-re-classifie-d as b-righte-r,samecolor and darker compared with adjacent parenchyma. Using the same methods,8 patients with recurred HCCs after RFA state were evaluated about the brightness compared with adjacent RFA ablation area. RESULTS:In the 38 patients with HCCs,20 (52.6%)were brighter than surrounding cirrhotic parenchyma. Another 13 (34.2%) were darker. The others (5 cases,13.2%) were seen as the same color as the adjacent liver parenchyma. Post-RFA lesions were darker than previous tumor and surrounding parenchyma in all 38 cases. However,recurred HCCs were brighter than the treated site in all 8 cases. CONCLUSION:Using ARFI technique is helpful for differential diagnosis in order to detect recurred HCCs more easily in patients with confusing status.

Background:cholecystectomy is a common surgical procedure to treat symptomatic gallstones;however,the long-term outcomes after cholecystectomy are ***,we aimed to investigate whether incident metabolic syndrome(MetS)is associated with cholecystectomy through a large,population-based,longitudinal ***:Subjects aged≥20 years who underwent cholecystectomy from 2010 to 2014(n=76,485)and controls(n=76,485),matched for age and sex,were identified from the Korean National Health Insurance *** proportional hazards analyses were performed to evaluate the association between cases and incident MetS,and hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals(CIs)were ***:A total of 152,970 patients were *** age was 52.47±12.76 years,and 50.65% of participants were *** the follow-up period,there were 38,979(25.48%)newly diagnosed MetS cases in the study *** risk of MetS in the cholecystectomy group was approximately 20% higher than that in the control group[adjusted odds ratio(OR),1.20;95%CI:1.17-1.23].In the fully adjusted models,the corresponding ORs for new-onset high waist circumference(WC),low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)levels,high triglycerides(TG)levels,high blood pressure(BP),and high blood glucose levels were 1.16(1.13-1.19),1.19(1.16-1.22),1.25(1.22-1.28),1.27(1.23-1.31),and 1.21(1.18-1.24),*** was an independent risk factor of incident MetS,after adjusting for potential confounding *** the subgroup analyses,the cholecystectomy group had a higher risk of MetS than the control group in subjects without hypertension or dyslipidemia,***:In this large,population-based study,cholecystectomy was associated with an increased risk of developing MetS,independent of other confounding ***,careful monitoring of metabolic variables and long-term follow-up are required to evaluate MetS risk after cholecystectomy.

Effect of trapping vascular endothelial growth factor-A in a murine model of dry eye with inflammatory neovascularization

AIM： To evaluate whether trapping vascular endothelial growth factor-A（VEGF-A） would suppress angiogenesis and inflammation in dry eye corneas in a murine corneal suture ***： We established two groups of animals, one with non-dry eyes and the other with induced dry *** both groups, a corneal suture model was used to induce inflammation and neovascularization. Each of two groups was again divided into three subgroups according to the treatment; subgroup I（aflibercept）,subgroup II（dexamethasone） and subgroup III（phosphate buffered saline, PBS）. Corneas were harvested and immunohistochemical staining was performed to compare the extents of neovascularization and CD11b＋ cell infiltration. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to quantify the expression of inflammatory cytokines and VEGF-A in the ***： Trapping VEGF-A with aflibercept resulted in significantly decreased angiogenesis and inflammation compared with the dexamethasone and PBS treatments in the dry eye corneas（all P 〈0.05）, but with no such effects in non-dry eyes. The anti-inflammatory and antiangiogenic effects of VEGF-A trapping were stronger than those of dexamethasone in both dry eye and non-dry eye corneas（all P 〈0.05）. The levels of RNA expression of VEGF-A, TNF-alpha, and IL-6 in the aflibercept subgroup were significantly decreasedcompared with those in the PBS subgroup in the dry eye ***： Compared with non-dry eye corneas,dry eye corneas have greater amounts of inflammation and neovascularization and also have a more robust response to anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic agents after ocular surface surgery. Trapping VEGF-A is effective in decreasing both angiogenesis and inflammation in dry eye corneas after ocular surface surgery.

It is known that any hypersurface in an almost complex space admits an almost contact manifold [11, 14]. In this article we show that a hyperplane in an almost contact manifold has an almost complex structure. Along with this result, we explain how to deter- mine when an almost contact structure induces a contact structure, followed by examples of a manifold with a closed G2-structure.

Background: Acquisition of pluripotency by transcriptional regulatory factors is an initial developmental event that is required for regulation of cell fate and lineage specification during early embryonic development. The evolutionarily conserved core transcriptional factors regulating the pluripotency network in fishes, amphibians, and mammals have been elucidated. There are also species-specific maternally inherited transcriptional factors and their intricate transcriptional networks important in the acquisition of pluripotency. In avian species, however, the core transcriptional network that governs the acquisition of pluripotency during early embryonic development is not well ***: We found that chicken NANOG(c NANOG) was expressed in the stages between the pre-ovulatory follicle and oocyte and was continuously detected in Eyal-Giladi and Kochav stage I(EGK.I) to X. However, c POUV was not expressed during fol iculogenesis, but began to be detectable between EGK.V and VI. Unexpectedly, c SOX2 could not be detected during fol iculogenesis and intrauterine embryonic development. Instead of c SOX2, c SOX3 was maternally inherited and continuously expressed during chicken intrauterine development. In addition, we found that the pluripotency-related genes such as c ENS-1, c KIT, c LIN28 A, c MYC, c PRDM14, and c SALL4 began to be dramatical y upregulated between *** and ***: These results suggest that chickens have a unique pluripotent circuitry since maternally inherited c NANOG and c SOX3 may play an important role in the initial acquisition of pluripotency. Moreover, the acquisition of pluripotency in chicken embryos occurs at around *** to VI I.

Mungbean （Vigna radiata （L.） Wilczek） is a unique species in its ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, with early maturity, and relatively good drought resistance. We used 454 sequencing technology for transcriptome sequencing. A total of 150 159 and 142 993 reads produced 5 254 and 6 374 large contigs （〉_500 bp） with an average length of 833 and 853 for Sunhwa and Jangan, respectively. Functional annotation to known sequences yielded 41.34% and 41.74% unigenes for Jangan and Sunhwa. A higher number of simple sequence repeat （SSR） motifs was identified in Jangan （1 630） compared with that of Sunhwa （1 334）. A similar SSR distribution pattern was observed in both varieties. A total of 8 249 single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） and indels with 2 098 high-confidence candidates were identified in the two mungbean varieties. The average distance between individual SNPs was -860 bp. Our report demonstrates the utility of transcriptomic data for implementing a functional annotation and development of genetic markers. We also provide large resource sequence data for mungbean improvement programs.

AIM: To investigate whether children with congenital common bile duct dilatation(CBDD) differ from children with obstructive CBDD in cholangiographic ***: In this retrospective cohort study, the baseline data and the results of imaging analyses were reviewed among children who had endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) due to CBDD. ERCP was performed on all pediatric patients by experienced pediatric endoscopists. The maximal transverse diameter of the common bile duct(CBD) was measured on ERCP. To assess whether ageadjusted CBDD could be used for differential diagnosis, a CBDD severity index(SI) was calculated by dividing the measured CBD diameter by the age-corrected maximal diameter of a normal CBD. RESULTS: A retrospective medical chart review revealed that 85 consecutive children under 16 years of age with hepatobiliary disease and CBDD were referred to Seoul Asan Medical Center. Fiftyfive(64.7%) children had congenital CBDD and 30(35.3%) had obstructive CBDD. The two groups did not differ significantly in terms of clinical characteristics except for sex. The congenital and obstructive CBDD groups did not differ significantly in terms of mean CBD diameter(19.3 ± 9.6 mm vs 12.2 ± 4.1 mm, P > 0.05). However, congenital CBDD cases had a significantly higher mean SI than obstructive CBDD cases(3.62 ± 1.64 vs 1.98 ± 0.71, P = 0.01). In multivariate analysis, an SI value ≥ 2.32 and comorbidity with anomalous union of pancreaticobiliary duct(APBDU) in ERCP independently predicted congenital ***: Measuring the CBD may aid the differential diagnosis of both CBDD and APBDU in children.
