Anti-scarring effects of butaprost on human subconjunctival Tenon's fibroblasts

AIM： To investigate the toxicity of the E-prostanoid 2（EP2） receptor agonist, butaprost against human subconjunctival（Tenon＇s capsule） fibroblasts, and to determine the underlying mechanism. METHODS： We isolated Tenon＇s fibroblasts from the subconjunctival area of healthy subjects and evaluated the types of EP receptors expressed using quantitative realtime reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction（RTPCR）. The toxicity of butaprost against the fibroblasts was evaluated using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium and lactic dehydrogenase assays. The inhibition of conjunctival fibroblast proliferation by butaprost was assessed by measuring α-actin levels. The underlying mechanism was assessed by measuring intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate（c AMP） levels. Intergroup differences were statistically analyzed using an independent t-test. Densitometry of the Western blot bands was performed using the Image J software. RESULTS： Quantitative real-time RT-PCR revealed that the fibroblast EP2 receptor levels were higher than those of the other EP receptors. Butaprost did not show toxicity against Tenon＇s tissue, but inhibited conjunctival fibroblast proliferation by reducing collagen synthesis. EP2 receptor activation enhanced the c AMP cascade, which might be an important mechanism underlying this ***： Butaprost effectively reduces the subconjunctival scarring response. Given the significanceof wound healing modulation in blebs, butaprost＇s inhibitory effect on subconjunctival Tenon＇s fibroblasts may be beneficial in managing postoperative scarring in glaucoma surgery.

Silicon nanowires（SiNWs） encapsulated with graphene-like carbon sheath（GS） having a void space in between（SiNW@V@GS） are demonstrated for the improved electrochemical performance of Si anode in lithium ion battery. The Si NW@V@GS structure was synthesized by a scalable fabrication method including four successive reactions： metal-catalyzed CVD growth of Si NWs, controlled thermal oxidation, and deposition of the graphitic layer, to form Si NW@SiO2@GS and additional chemical etching of sacrificial SiO2 layer between Si NWs and carbon sheath. During the synthetic process, the thickness of the void spacing was controlled by adjusting the oxidation-dependent process. The well-controlled void space and crystalline graphitic carbon sheath of the SiNW@V@GS structure enable good reversible capacity of1444 m Ahg^（-1） and cycling stability of 85% over 150 cycles.

Cyberattacks on the Industrial Control System(ICS)have recently been increasing,made more intelligent by advancing *** such,cybersecurity for such systems is attracting *** a core element of control devices,the Programmable Logic Controller(PLC)in an ICS carries out on-site control over the ICS.A cyberattack on the PLC will cause damages on the overall ICS,with Stuxnet and Duqu as the most representative ***,cybersecurity for PLCs is considered essential,and many researchers carry out a variety of analyses on the vulnerabilities of PLCs as part of preemptive efforts against *** this study,a vulnerability analysis was conducted on the XGB *** vulnerabilities were identified by analyzing the network protocols and memory structure of PLCs and were utilized to launch replay attack,memory modulation attack,and FTP/Web service account theft for the verification of the *** on the results,the attacks were proven to be able to cause the PLC to malfunction and disable it,and the identified vulnerabilities were defined.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Though Hongbaekjeong(HBJ),a hebal mixture of three medicinal plants,has been traditionally used for arthritis and muscular pain,its scientific evidence still remains ***,in the present study,analgesic and anti-inflammatory mechanism of HBJ was evaluated in vitro and in *** significantly reduced NO production and prostaglandin E2(PGE2)release and also attenuated the expression of cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2)in lipopolysaccharides(LPS)and interferon(IFN)-c treated RAW 264.7 ***,HBJ abrogated the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin(IL)1b,IL-6,IL-8 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1)in LPS and IFN-c treated RAW 264.7 *** addition,HBJ significantly decreased the number of writhing syndrome induced by acetic acid,and also increased latency in hot-plate method and tail flick test in ***,HBJ significantly reduced the edema volume in the hind paw of the rats with arthritis induced by Freund’s complete adjuvant(FCA)compared to untreated ***,our findings demonstrate the antiinflammatory and analgesic potential of HBJ via inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines and PGE2 release for treatment of arthritis and muscular pain.

Anion exchange membrane(AEM)water electrolyzers are promising energy devices for the production of clean hydrogen from ***,the lack of active and robust electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)severely impedes the development of this *** this study,a ternary layered double hydroxide(LDH)OER electrocatalyst(NiFeCo-LDH)is developed for high-performance AEM alkaline seawater *** AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer catalyzed by the NiFeCo LDH shows high seawater electrolysis performance(0.84 A/cm^(2)at 1.7 Vcell)and high hydrogen production efficiency(77.6%at 0.5 A/cm^(2)),thus outperforming an electrolyzer catalyzed by a benchmark IrO_(2)*** NiFeCo-LDH electrocatalyst greatly improves the kinetics of the AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer,consequently reducing its activation loss and leading to high *** on the results,this NiFeCo-LDH-catalyzed AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer can likely surpass the energy conversion targets of the US Department of Energy.

BACKGROUND Mannitol is a hyperosmolar agent and the combination of mannitol and furosemide is a widely used treatment for intracranial pressure *** the hypertonic properties of mannitol to move water out of intracellular spaces,we hypothesized that mannitol combined with furosemide could relieve focal tissue swelling in refractory *** SUMMARY A 90-year-old female had been diagnosed with intracranial hemorrhage and received a combination of mannitol and furosemide for intracranial pressure *** of the intracranial hemorrhage,she had refractory lymphedema of the left lower extremity since ***,after receiving the mannitol and furosemide,the patient’s lower extremity lymphedema improved *** the mannitol and furosemide were discontinued,the lymphedema worsened in spite of complete decongestive therapy(CDT)and intermittent pneumatic compression treatment(IPC).To identify the presumed effect of mannitol and furosemide on the lymphedema,these agents were resumed,and the lymphedema improved *** The present case raises the possibility that a combination of mannitol and furosemide might be considered another effective therapeutic option for refractory lymphedema when CDT and IPC are ineffective.
