Objective:To identify the presence of joint muscular and cholinergic systems in two freshwater rotifer species,Brachionus calyciflorus and Lecane ***:The muscle actin fibers were stained with phalloidin-linked fluorescent dye,and acetylcholine was detected with Amplex Red Acetylcholine/Acetylcholinesterase Assay Kit,and then confocal scanning laser microscopy was ***:The musculature of Brachionus calyciflorus showed a pattern similar to other species of the same genus,while that of Lecane quadridentata was different from other rotifer genera described *** cholinergic system was determined by co-localization of both muscles and acetylcholine labels in the whole rotifer,suggesting the presence of neuromuscular ***:The distribution pattern of muscular and acetylcholine systems showed considerable differences between the two species that might be related to different adaptations to particular ecological *** confirmation of a cholinergic system in rotifers contributes to the development of potential neuro-pharmacological and toxicological studies using rotifers as model organism.

Formation of Drawing Activity in Mexican Pre-school Children

The pre-school age is the period of great importance for psychological development and preparation for school. The process of learning and achievements at school depends on the types of activities selected at pre-school level. Unfortunately, it is often to find out that introduction of writing and reading is among the most common activities in pre-school institutions all over the world. Instead of this, we propose drawing as suitable activity for children development. The original program for gradual formation of drawing by stages was elaborated. The program is based on the usage of the zone of proximate development and considers psychological structure of graphic activity. The program was applied in different pre-school institutions in Mexico. All children were tested before and after application of the program. Before the program, all children have shown absence of developed drawing activity. After program application all children showed qualitative positive achievements in graphic activity, such as spatial global and analytic orientation, essential features, and shapes of represented objects. We conclude that drawing is extremely useful activity for preparation for school learning, especially for writing process. Our program may be used in pre-school institutions in order to guarantee correspondent level or preparation for school learning.

Leuprolide acetate induces structural and functional recovery of injured spinal cord in rats

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone（Gn RH） and its synthetic analog leuprolide acetate, a Gn RH agonist, have neurotrophic properties. This study was designed to determine whether administration of leuprolide acetate can improve locomotor behavior, gait, micturition reflex, spinal cord morphology and the amount of microglia in the lesion epicenter after spinal cord injury in rats. Rats with spinal cord compression injury were administered leuprolide acetate or saline solution for 5 weeks. At the 5th week, leuprolide acetate-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery by 38%, had improvement in kinematic gait and exhibited voiding reflex recovery by 60%, as compared with the 1st week. By contrast, saline solution-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery only by 7%, but voiding reflex did not recover. More importantly, leuprolide acetate treatment reduced microglial immunological reaction and induced a trend towards greater area of white and gray matter in the spinal cord. Therefore, leuprolide acetate has great potential to repair spinal cord injury.

The Formation of Initial Components of Number Concepts in Mexican Children

The initial formation of number concept represents one of the essential aspects of learning mathematics at the primary school. Children commonly show strong difficulties and absence of comprehension of symbolic and abstract nature of concept of number. The objective of the present study was to show the effectiveness of original method for introduction of elements of concept of number. A pre- and post- test descriptive quantitative and qualitative design was used with an experimental group of Mexican suburban children from Grade 1 of the primary school. The original method for formation of components of concept of number was applied to children from experimental group. The duration of the application was six months in the classroom three days per week. The program included specific training of components of number concept: symbolic, logical, numeric, and spatial. The results of the final assessment indicate positive result in experimental group in comparison with absence of changes in control group. The authors conclude that the method could be useful for organizing pedagogical methodology in Mexican primary schools.

Cosmology of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Model

We review the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model (NJL), proposed long time ago, in the sixties, as a fermion interaction theory with chiral symmetry. The theory is not renormalizable and presents a symmetry breaking due to quantum effects which depends on the strength of the coupling constant. We may associate a phase transition with this symmetry breaking, leading from fermion states to a fermion condensate which can be described effectively by a scalar field. Our purpose in this paper is to exploit the interesting properties of NJL in a different context other than particle physics by studying its cosmological dynamics. We are interested in finding whether possibly the NJL model could be used to describe the still unknown dark energy and/or dark matter, from up to 95% of the energy content of the universe at present time.

Initial Training of Reading in Mexican Children

In Mexico, such in many other Latin American countries difficulties in reading and comprehension of texts persist up to high school and university levels. This article proposes a new original method for initial training of reading in primary school. The method was designed considering linguistic essential features of Spanish language, including phonological structure and types of relations between sounds and letters. The method is based on creation of reflection of sounds of the language in children. Firstly, the introduction of reading is proposed with the help of symbolic representation of phonological of words. Specific external orientation for each words and letter is taken into account, according to conception of development proposed by Vigotsky. The authors are convinced that the success of the teaching process is determined by conceptual orientation provided by teacher and reflective abilities of children. The method can be used for Spanish-speaking population in different countries.

Experience of Neuropsychological Treatment of a Patient With Aphasia

Consideration of functions and its localization has an impact on the treatment of patients with brain injury. The aim of the article is to show an experience of neuropsychological treatment applied to a Spanish-speaking masculine of 77 years old with brain injury of ischemic type in left anterior artery. Pre- and post-assessment was applied to the patient. The previous assessment established motor efferent aphasia with serious problems of cortical and sub-cortical activation. The program for rehabilitation included special activities on concrete, perceptual, and verbal level of verbal and non-verbal activities. The 11 months of application of program of rehabilitation permitted to obtain considerably better results in all neuropsychological tasks. Functional reorganization in motor organization, oral language, comprehension, drawing, writing, reading, and problem-solving significant for patient"s life and occupation took place. Our study shows that the program of neurorehabilitation should be based on qualitative analysis of verbal and non-verbal activity. The results confirm the necessity of inclusion of broad scale of activities during rehabilitation of patients with motor aphasia.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is an economically devastating disease with worldwide distribution caused by Betaarterivirus suid (PRRSV). The virion has great genetic and antigenic variability with a marked increase in virulence. Vaccines tested to date have been of little use in controlling the problems caused by PRRSV, so the present study was conceived to evaluate the antiviral effect of polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) made with glycyrrhizic acid (GA). Recent work has proven that this nanoparticle system is stable. These nanoparticles have good GA carrying capacity, a size < 250 nm, a spherical morphology, and a wide safety range. The integrity of cell morphology can be maintained for up to 72 h. The antiviral effect of this nanoparticle system was tested in cultures of MARC-145 cells in pre- and coinfection assays with PRRSV to evaluate changes in cell morphology and effects on cell viability. The use of PNPsGA with the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) decreased viral infection by 38% in 3 amplification cycles. These results suggest that this system has an antiviral effect against PRRSV under the study conditions established.

Evaluation Preliminary of a Dry Emulsion System as a <i>Pasteurella multocida</i>Oral Carrier for Pigs

Background: This work evaluated the capacity of a dry emulsion as a carrier of viable microorganisms with potential use as prophylaxis of infectious diseases. Methods: The aqueous phase containing P. multocida not viable in PBS was emulsified in mineral oil to obtain a w/o emulsion. The microorganisms remained stable and only in two cases (n = 6) did the bacterial concentration decrease. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed a structure of a system with the organized association of particles with cubic symmetry. Using two ex vivo bioadhesion systems, it was demonstrated that the disperse-adsorbed system is capable of adhering to the intestinal mucosa and remains adhered for long periods of time. Results: The no viability of the bacteria in the dry emulsion and the possibility of controlled release were confirmed. In vivo trial was conducted in pigs. It was possible to locate the emulsion and the bacteria attached to the gut of the living animal. An ELISA kit was used to monitor the mean antibody titer of treated pigs over a 2-week period, and a classic primary response curve occurred when the titer was plotted against time. Conclusion: We propose the disperse-adsorbed system as an alternative to commonly used vehicles for immunogens in the oral vaccines.

Effect Found in the Combination of Kitasamycin with Other Antibiotics Used against <i>Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae</i>

Background: Combinations of antibiotics are used to increase the therapeutic options via the simultaneous activities of two compounds. The goals of combination therapy are to resolve the bacterial infection while reducing the treatment cost. The use of kitasamycin is used frequently and in addition to other antibiotics, the desired combinations were not found. Methods: Fields strains: we use serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7. Microbial culturing: The serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7 was identified. Antibiotics and Reagents: The antibiotics used were kitasamycin;enrofloxacin and oxolinic acid. The following combinations were tested: a) kitasamycin with enrofloxacin;b) kitasamycin with norfloxacin;and c) kitasamycin with oxolinic acid. Preparation of bacterial suspensions: The cultures were adjusted to a concentration of 5 colony-forming units per ml (CFU/ml) using the same sterile culture medium as the diluent. Determination of the fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs): To test each combination and their interactions and to calculate the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) of each antibiotic. Calculation of the index of the fractional minimum inhibitory concentration (FMIC): The FMIC index was calculated by applying the following formula: FIC index = FIC of antibiotic A/FIC of antibiotic B. Results: What was found showed that: A combination of kitasamycin and norfloxacin has been shown to have an indifferent effect. A combination of kitasamycin and enrofloxacin had antagonistic effects against all of the Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotypes studied. Finally, a combination of kitasamycin and oxolinic acid had antagonist effects against serotypes 1, 3 and 5 and a synergistic effect against serotype 7. Conclusion: The “in vitro” combination Kitasamycin-Norfloxacin showed an indifferent effect, and combination Kitasamycin and Enrofloxacin demonstrated an antagonistic interaction between these two anti
