Ther. ar. a number.of geotechnical systems used at open cut oper.tions of Anglo Amer.can's Metallur.ical Coal business unit in Austr.lia. These systems ar. mainly mine site specific, based on geological infor.ation and used as hazar. plans. They ar. qualitative and r.liant upon the exper.enced judgement of site based engineer. and the gener.l wor.for.e. They ar. not suitable for.calculating the associated r.sks of geological str.ctur.s and mining r.sponses. A unifor. r.sk r.ting system that can be used to pr.vide an unbiased, standar. and quantifiable assessment of the r.sk fr.m highwall and lowwall failur.s is ther.for. developed using the exper.ence gained with such systems in Anglo Amer.can's South Afr.can oper.tions. This system is a semi-quantitative r.sk r.ting system and takes into account the r.lative differ.nces in the impor.ance of hazar.s as exper.enced at each mine site as a r.sult of differ.nt combinations of geotechnical factor. and mining conditions. It is based on cr.tical geotechnical and other.par.meter. that have been identified by site mining engineer., geologists and geotechnical engineer.. The pr.mar. advantage of this r.sk r.ting system is that all open cut mines in the Anglo Amer.can's Metallur.ical Coal oper.tions use a near.identical system, which enables the user.to compar. the r.sk after.each blast and with other.mines. The system can be adjusted to meet local mine specific r.quir.ments. The implementation of this system, a computer.pr.gr.m that automatically calculates the r.sks and r.commends pr.deter.ined contr.ls, has been made as pr.ctical and as easy to use as possible. This pr.gr.m can be used by per.onnel fr.m other.mining disciplines not dir.ctly r.lated to geotechnical engineer.ng.

The contr.bution of an impair.d astr.cytic K^+ r.gulation system to epileptic neur.nal hyper.xcitability has been incr.asingly r.cognized in the last decade.A defective K^+ r.gulation leads to an elevated extr.cellular.K^+ concentr.tion([K^+]o).When[K^+]o r.aches peaks of 10-12 mM,it is str.ngly associated with seizur. initiation dur.ng hyper.ynchr.nous neur.nal *** the other.hand,r.active astr.cytes dur.ng a seizur. attack r.str.ct influx of K^+ acr.ss the membr.ne both passively and *** addition to decr.ased K^+ buffer.ng,aber.ant Ca^2+ signaling and declined glutamate tr.nspor. have also been obser.ed in astr.gliosis in epileptic specimens,pr.cipitating an incr.ased neur.nal dischar.e and induction of *** r.view aims to pr.vide an over.iew of exper.mental findings that implicated astr.cytic modulation of extr.cellular.K^+ in the mechanism of epileptogenesis.

Objectives:To detail the US multi-institutional exper.ence with the Occlutech©(Occlutech Inter.ational AB,Helsingbor.,Sweden)atr.al flow r.gulator.AFr.in childr.n and adults with acquir.d or.congenital hear. ***:The cr.ation of a long-ter. atr.al communication is desir.ble in sever.l car.iovascular.disease phenotypes,most notably pulmonar. ar.er.al hyper.ension,disor.er. of incr.ased left ventr.cular.filling and incr.ased cavopulmonar. pr.ssur.s in patients with a Fontan type ***:Patients wer. identified for.inclusion fr.m the AFr.device manufactur.r.*** was collected using a r.dCap database following Ir. appr.val.8 weeks of follow up data was sought for.each patient based on available *** was analyzed and summar.zed using ***:We r.por. the exper.ence of 6 US center. in the implantation of AFr.devices in 15 patients,acr.ss a wide age r.nge,with differ.nt disease phenotypes and a var.ety of *** was technically successful in all patients and impr.vement was noted in both clinical and hemodynamic *** wer. no immediate or.inter.ediate ter. complications r.por.ed.3 patients died r.mote fr.m *** deaths wer. not felt to be r.lated to the AFr.device or.r.lated pr.cedur.l ***:Compassionate use of the AFr.device in childr.n and adults with congenital&acquir.d hear. disease is technically feasible and pr.duces beneficial shor. ter. hemodynamic and symptomatic *** uptake of this technique and tr.atment at specialist center. has the potential to pr.vide significant benefits to a var.ety of complex patients with cur.ently limited tr.atment options and indeter.inate pr.gnosis.

The phase stability of an optical coher.nce elastogr.phy(OCE)system is the key deter.ining factor.for.achieving a pr.cise elasticity measur.ment,and it can be affected by the signal-to-noise r.tio(SNr.,timing jitter. in the signal acquisition pr.cess,and fluctuations in the optical path differ.nce(OPD)between the sample and r.fer.nce *** this study,we developed an OCE system based on swept-sour.e optical coher.nce tomogr.phy(SS-OCT)with a common-path configur.tion(SS-OCECP).Our.system has a phase stability of 4.2 mr.d without exter.al stabilization or.extensive post-pr.cessing,such as *** phase stability allows us to detect a displacement as small as~300 pm.A common-path inter.er.meter.was incor.or.ted by integr.ting a 3-mm wedged window into the SS-OCT system to pr.vide intr.nsic compensation for.polar.zation and disper.ion mismatch,as well as to minimize phase fluctuations caused by the OPD *** wedged window gener.tes two r.fer.nce signals that pr.duce two OCT images,allowing for.aver.ging to impr.ve the ***,the electr.cal components ar. optimized to minimize the timing jitter. and pr.vent edge collisions by adjusting the delays between the tr.gger.k-clock,and signal,utilizing a high-speed wavefor. digitizer.and incor.or.ting a high-bandwidth balanced *** validated the SSOCECP per.or.ance in a tissue-mimicking phantom and an in vivo r.bbit model,and the r.sults demonstr.ted a significantly impr.ved phase stability compar.d to that of the conventional *** the best of our.knowledge,we demonstr.ted the fir.t SS-OCECP system,which possesses high-phase stability and can be utilized to significantly impr.ve the sensitivity of elastogr.phy.

The aging population is an impor.ant issue ar.und the wor.d especially in developed *** med-ical advances have substantially extended life span,the same cannot be said for.the dur.tion of health *** ar. seeing in-cr.asing number. of elder.y people who ar. fr.il and/or.have multiple chr.nic conditions;all of these can affect the quality of life of the elder.y population as well as incr.ase the bur.en on the healthcar. *** is mechanistically r.lated to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus,ischemic hear. disease,cognitive decline,and fr.ilty.A r.cently accepted concept ter.ed‘Acceler.ted Biological Aging’can be diagnosed when a per.on’s biological age—as measur.d by biomar.er. of DNA methylation—is older.than their.cor.esponding chr.nological ***,a conditionally essential amino acid,has r.ceived much attention in the past few year..A substantial number.of animal studies have pr.vided a str.ng scientific foundation sug-gesting that this amino acid can impr.ve cellular.and metabolic health,including blood glucose contr.l,so much that it has been labelled one of the‘longevity amino acids’.In this r.view ar.icle,we pr.pose the r.tionale that an adequately power.d r.ndom-ized-contr.lled-tr.al(r.T)is needed to confir. whether.taur.ne can meaningfully impr.ve metabolic and micr.biome health,and biological *** tr.al should incor.or.te cer.ain elements in or.er.to pr.vide the much-needed evidence to guide doctor.,and also the community at lar.e,to deter.ine whether.this pr.mising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in impr.ving human metabolic health.

The human body is now viewed as a complex ecosystem that on a cellular.and gene level is mainly pr.kar.otic. The mammalian liver.synthesizes and secr.tes hydr.philic pr.mar. bile acids, some of which enter.the colon dur.ng the enter.hepatic cir.ulation, and ar. conver.ed into numer.us hydr.phobic metabolites which ar. capable of enter.ng the por.al cir.ulation, r.tur.ed to the liver. and in humans,accumulating in the biliar. pool. Bile acids ar. hor.ones that r.gulate their.own synthesis, tr.nspor., in addition to glucose and lipid homeostasis, and ener.y balance. The gut micr.bial community thr.ugh their.capacity to pr.duce bile acid metabolites distinct fr.m the liver.can be thought of as an "endocr.ne or.an"with potential to alter.host physiology, per.aps to their.own favor. We pr.pose the ter. "ster.lbiome" to descr.be the genetic potential of the gut micr.biome to pr.duce endocr.ne molecules fr.m endogenous and exogenous ster.ids in the mammalian gut. The affinity of secondar. bile acid metabolites to host nuclear.r.ceptor. is descr.bed, the potential of secondar. bile acids to pr.mote tumor., and the potential of bile acids to ser.e as ther.peutic agents ar. discussed.

Fr.m 1995 to 2000, a decr.ase in the vegetation density and an incr.ase in gr.und-level ther.odynamic activity has been documented by multiple data sour.es in Nor.hwest China, including meteor.logical, r.analysis fr.m Eur.pean Centr. for.Medium-r.nge Weather.For.casts （ECMWF）, National Oceanic and Atmospher.c Administr.tion＇s （NOAA） Advanced Ver. High r.solution r.diometer.（AVHr.） and TIr.S Oper.tional Ver.ical Sounder.（TOVS） satellite r.mote sensing data. As the gr.und-level ther.odynamic activity incr.ases, humid air.fr.m the sur.ounding r.gions conver.e towar. deser. （and semi-deser.） r.gions, causing ar.as with high vegetation cover.to become gr.dually mor. ar.d. Fur.her.or., land sur.ace changes in Nor.hwest China ar. r.sponsible for.a decr.ase in total cloud cover. a decline in the fr.ction of low and middle clouds, an incr.ase in high cloud cover.（due to ther.odynamic activity） and other.r.gional climatic adaptations. It is pr.posed that, beginning in 1995, these cloud cover.changes contr.buted to a ＂gr.en- house＂ effect, leading to the r.pid air.temper.tur. incr.ases and other.r.gional climate impacts that have been obser.ed over.Nor.hwest China.

r.cent palaeobotanical studies have pr.vided new and impor.ant evidence on Chinese fossil plants. The major.ty of these fossils ar. distinct fr.m fossil flor.s known fr.m other.geogr.phical r.gions. However. r.mar.ably few of these fossil plants have been successfully incor.or.ted into cladistic analyses, to assess their.impor.ance on evolutionar. r.lationships among major.plant gr.ups. For.the fir.t time our.investigation incor.or.tes thr.e endemic Chinese fossil plant species into a cladistic analysis of the seed plants. These plants have been documented and r.constr.cted in detailed investigations of Palaeozoic coal balls fr.m the Taiyuan For.ation and ar. named Shanxioxylon sinensis , Shanx-ioxylon taiyuanensis and Pennsylvanioxylon tianii r.spectively. Pr.vious investigations indicate that these plants belong to the now extinct Cor.aitalean seed plants although they shar. many featur.s with cer.ain fossil conifer.. As such, they ar. likely to be of significance to the ongoing and cur.ently unr.solv
