The spatial pattern distribution of plant hormones in response to aluminum (Al) toxicity in roots remains to be shown. This study was performed to assess the root hormonal accumulation and gene expression in response to Al toxicity in five transgenic miniature dwarf tomatoes cv. micro-Tom (mT). mT and mT transgenics to acid indole acetic, cytokinin, gibberellin, abscisic acid and ethylene were cultivated in nutrient solutions containing different Al concentrations. Root growth elongation was measured and cellular damage was visualized by staining Evans’s blue. The GUS reporter gene staining technique was used to visualize hormonal changes in mT apex root tissues. Data indicated that the mT is sensitive to Al that induced significant growth inhibition and cellular damage. Al concentration of 27 μm was significantly toxic, inducing root apex darkening and inhibition of root development. The qualitative evaluation of GUS reporter gene expression showed intense crosstalk among all hormones studied, underscoring the complexity of signaling induced by Al in apex roots. Results point out to a major understanding of the hormonal signaling in response to Al toxicity, which may induce a change of root growth and architecture with growth inhibition and cell constraints modulated by all different hormones evaluated.

Objective: To investigate the association between TLR3 and TLR7 polymorphisms with susceptibility and clinical manifestations of Chikungunya ***: A total of 177 individuals were studied: 73 patients with a confirmed diagnosis for Chikungunya virus and 104 non-infected individuals. Polymorphisms were determined by Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Results: Our analysis showed an increased CC genotype frequency of the TLR7 rs3853839 polymorphism in male patients compared to control(29% versus 2%,respectively; OR=20.69; 95% CI=2.55-167.36; Pmore,arthritis(acute and chronic) was frequently found in CC male patients. On the contrary,65% of CG carriers were no-infected males(29% versus 65%,respectively; OR=0.23,95% CI=0.48-3.04; P=0.002). Finally,we observed a higher frequency of lymphopenia in CG male patients(CG=666.86±233.77,GG=1,314.27±752.29 cells/mm3,P=0.047). Conclusions: Our results suggest the TLR7 rs3853839 polymorphism is associated with lymphopenia and increased susceptibility to Chikungunya Fever in males.

AImTo investigated in non-alcoholic-fatty-liver-disease (NAFLD), with ultrasound (US)-detected fatty liver, and in a group of non-alcoholic and otherwise healthy subjects, relationship of neglected features of lifestyle with NAFLD and obesity. mETHODSFive hundred and thirty-two NAFLD and 667 non-NAFLD healthy subjects, age 21-60 years were studied. Severity of liver steatosis was assessed by US bright liver score. The adherence to mediterranean diet score (AmDS) was assessed on the basis of a 1-wk recall computerized questionnaire which included a detailed physical activity reports (Baecke questionnaire). The western dietary profile score, as a simplified paradigm of unhealthy diet, a questionnaire quantifying sun exposure score and a sleep habits questionnaires provided a further comprehensive lifestyle assessment. RESULTSBody mass index (BmI), insulin resistance (HOmA), and triglycerides, poorer adherence to a mediterranean diet profile, sedentary habits, minor sun exposure and use of “western diet” foods are greater in NAFLD. multiple linear regression analysis, weighted by years of age, displays BmI, HOmA and AmDS as the most powerful independent predictors of fatty liver severity; however, also the physical activity score, the western diet habit and the sun exposure score are acting inside the model with significant independent effects. CONCLUSIONArticulated clinical intervention, according to our results, are justified in NAFLD and can be pursued addressing by focused intervention nutritional profile, physical exercise mainly in open-air subsets for enhancing sun exposure and healthier sleep duration and rhythm.

Exploring the utility of the Chasing Principle:influence of drug-free SNEDDS composition on solubilization of carvedilol, cinnarizine and R3040 in aqueous suspension

This study assessed the influence of the composition of drug-free SNEDDS co-dosed with aqueous suspensions of carvedilol(CAR), cinnarizine(CIN) or R3040 on drug solubilization in a twocompartment in vitro lipolysis model. Correlation of drug log P or solubility in SNEDDS with drug solubilization during in vitro lipolysis in the presence of drug-free SNEDDS was assessed. SNEDDS with varying ratios of soybean oil:maisine 35-1(1:1, w/w) and Kolliphor RH40, with ethanol at 10%(w/w) were used. SNEDDS were named F65, F55 and F20(numbers refer to the percentage of lipids) and aqueous suspensions without drug-free SNEDDS(F0) were also analyzed. While the ranking order of drug solubilization was F65? F55? F204F0 for CAR; F65? F554F204F0 for CIN and F65? F55? F204F0 for R3040-with higher CAR solubilization than for R3040 and CIN-the ranking of S_(eq)of CAR, CIN and R3040 in SNEDDS was F65 o F55o F20, F65? F554F20 and F654F554F20, respectively. Therefore, the composition of SNEDDS influenced the solubilization of CIN, but not CAR and R3040. Furthermore, high S_(eq) in SNEDDS did not reflect high drug solubilization. As CAR(log P 3.8) showed higher solubilization than CIN(log P 5.8) and R3040(log P 10.4), a correlation between drug log P and drug solubilization was observed.

Rhabdomyomatous well-differentiated esophageal liposarcomas are extremely rare. As of August 2016, only one other such case has been reported in the English-language medical literature. Liposarcomas in general are one of the most common soft tissue neoplasms in adults, but the incidence of primary esophageal liposarcomas is exceptionally low. There have been only 42 reported cases of primary liposarcoma of the esophagus worldwide thus far. These malignancies are harbored within giant fibrovascular polyps, which slowly grow within the esophageal lumen causing obstructing symptoms. We hereby present the case of a 68-year-old male patient who came in with a 2-mo history of worsening intermittent dysphagia, persistent cough, and postprandial retrosternal pain. After an esophagogastroduodenoscopy, a computed tomographic scan, and a diagnostic endoscopy, complete endoscopic resection was performed of the 13 cm × 6 cm × 2.6 cm fibrovascular polyp. A literature review was done and results are presented herein.
