Twenty-one protostane-type triterpenoids with diverse structures, including nine new compounds(1 e9), were isolated from the of Alisma plantago-aquatica Linn. Structurally, alisolides A-F(1 e6), composed of an oxole group coupled to a five-membered ring, represent unusual C-17 spirost protostane-type triterpenoids. Alisolide H(8) is a novel triterpenoid with an unreported endoperoxide bridge. Alisolide I(9) represents the first example of 23,24-acetal triterpenoid. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis, wherein the absolute configurations of 4-6, 8 were further confirmed by the Mo2(OAc)4-induced ECD method. Furthermore, all isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on LPS-induced NO production in Caco-2 cells, and all the compounds showed remarkable inhibitory activities, with IC50 values in the range of 0.76 e38.20 mmol/L.

Acquisition of pluripotency in the chick embryo occurs during intrauterine embryonic development via a unique transcriptional network

Background: Acquisition of pluripotency by transcriptional regulatory factors is an initial developmental event that is required for regulation of cell fate and lineage specification during early embryonic development. The evolutionarily conserved core transcriptional factors regulating the pluripotency network in fishes, amphibians, and mammals have been elucidated. There are also species-specific maternally inherited transcriptional factors and their intricate transcriptional networks important in the acquisition of pluripotency. In avian species, however, the core transcriptional network that governs the acquisition of pluripotency during early embryonic development is not well ***: We found that chicken NANOG(c NANOG) was expressed in the stages between the pre-ovulatory follicle and oocyte and was continuously detected in Eyal-giladi and Kochav stage I(EGK.I) to X. However, c POUV was not expressed during fol iculogenesis, but began to be detectable between EGK.V and VI. Unexpectedly, c SOX2 could not be detected during fol iculogenesis and intrauterine embryonic development. Instead of c SOX2, c SOX3 was maternally inherited and continuously expressed during chicken intrauterine development. In addition, we found that the pluripotency-related genes such as c ENS-1, c KIT, c LIN28 A, c MYC, c PRDM14, and c SALL4 began to be dramatical y upregulated between *** and ***: These results suggest that chickens have a unique pluripotent circuitry since maternally inherited c NANOG and c SOX3 may play an important role in the initial acquisition of pluripotency. Moreover, the acquisition of pluripotency in chicken embryos occurs at around *** to VI I.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Krill oil (KO) exhibits various biological activities， such as anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects. However， the inhibitory effects of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in vitro and in vivo have not yet been studied. This study investigated the anti-BPH effects of KO extracted by an enzymatic hydrolysis method. KO treatment inhibited the proliferation of WMPY-1 and BPH-1 cells by induction of G0/G1phase arrest through the modulation of positive and negative regulators in both prostate cell types. KO treatment stimulated phosphorylation of JNK and p38 signaling. In addition， KO changed the expression of BPH-related markers (5α-reductase， androgen receptor， FGF， Bcl-2， and Bax) and the activity of the proliferation-mediated NF-κB binding motif. KO-induced levels of proliferation-mediated molecules of prostate cells were attenuated in the presence of siRNA-specific p-38 (si-p38) and JNK (si-JNK). Furthermore， the administration of KO alleviated prostate size and weight and the cell layer thickness of prostate glands in a testosterone enanthate-induced BPH rat model. KO treatment altered the level of dihydrotestosterone in serum and the expression levels of BPH-related markers in prostate tissues. Finally， KO-mediated inhibition of prostatic growth was validated by histological analysis. These results suggest that KO has an inhibitory effect on BPH in prostate cells in vitro and in vivo. Thus， KO might be a potential prophylactic or therapeutic agent for patients with BPH.

Background:The trend of military patients becoming infected with vivax malaria reemerged in the Republic of Korea(ROK)in *** common explanation has been that infective Anopheles mosquitoes from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have invaded Republic of Korea’s demilitarized zone(DMZ).The aim of this study was to verify the relationship between meteorological factors and the number of malaria patients in the military in this ***:The authors estimated the effects of meteorological factors on vivax malaria patients from the military based on the monthly number of malaria cases between 2006 and ***,precipitation,snow depth,wind velocity,relative humidity,duration of sunshine,and cloud cover were selected as the meteorological factors to be studied.A systematic pattern in the spatial distribution of malaria cases was assessed using the Moran’s *** causality tests and cross-correlation coefficients were used to evaluate the relationship between meteorological factors and malaria patients in the ***:Spatial analysis revealed significant clusters of malaria patients in the military in Republic of Korea in 2011(Moran’s I=0.136,p-value=0.026).In the six years investigated,the number of malaria patients in the military in Paju decreased,but the number of malaria patients in the military in Hwacheon and Chuncheon *** average,maximum and minimum temperatures;wind velocity;and relative humidity were found to be predicting factors of malaria in patients in the military in *** contrast,wind velocity alone was not able to predict malaria in Hwacheon and Chuncheon,however,precipitation and cloud cover were able to predict malaria in Hwacheon and ***:This study demonstrated that the number of malaria patients in the military is correlated with meteorological *** variation in occurrence of malaria cases was principally attributed to differences in meteorological factors by regions of

We characterized the function of the rice cytosolic hexokinase OsHXK7 （Qryza sativa HexokindseZ）, which is highly upregulated when seeds germinate under O2- deficient conditions. According to transient expression assays that used the promoter：luciferase fusion construct, OsHXK7 enhanced the glucose （Glc）-dependent repression of a rice n-amylase gene （RAmy3D） in the mesophyll protoplasts of maize, but its catalytically inactive mutant alleles did not. Consistently, the expression of OsHXK7, but not its catalytically inactive alleles, complemented the Arabidopsis glucose insensitive2-1 （gin2-1） mutant, thereby resulting in the wild type characteristics of Glc-dependent repression, seedling development, and plant growth. Interestingly, OsHXK7-mediated Glc-dependent repression was abolished in the O2-deficient mesophyll protoplasts of maize. This result provides compelling evidence that OsHXK7 functions in sugar signaling via a glycolysis-dependent manner under normal conditions, but its signaling role is suppressed when O2 is deficient. The germination of two null OsHXK7 mutants, oshxk7-1 and oshxk7-2, was affected by O2 deficiency, but overexpression enhanced germination in rice. This result suggests the distinct role that OsHXK7 plays in sugar metabolism and efficient germination by enforcing glycolysis-mediated fermentation in O2-deficient rice.

Background: Minimally invasive surgery is becoming increasingly popular in the field of pancreatic surgery. However, there are few studies of robotic distal pancreatectomy(RDP) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of RDP for PDAC. Methods: Patients who underwent RDP or laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy(LDP) for PDAC between January 2015 and September 2020 were reviewed. Propensity score matching analyses were performed. Results: Of the 335 patients included in the study, 24 underwent RDP and 311 underwent LDP. A total of 21 RDP patients were matched 1:1 with LDP patients. RDP was associated with longer operative time(209.7 vs. 163.2 min;P = 0.003), lower open conversion rate(0% vs. 4.8%;P < 0.001), higher cost(15 722 vs. 12 699 dollars;P = 0.003), and a higher rate of achievement of an R0 resection margin(90.5% vs. 61.9%;P = 0.042). However, postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B or C showed no significant intergroup difference(9.5% vs. 9.5%). The median disease-free survival(34.5 vs. 17.3 months;P = 0.588) and overall survival(37.7 vs. 21.9 months;P = 0.171) were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: RDP is associated with longer operative time, a higher cost of surgery, and a higher likelihood of achieving R0 margins than LDP.
