Histopathological diagnosis of microvascular invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma:Is it reliable?

BACKGROUND Microvascular invasion(MVI)is a critical prognostic factor for postoperative hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence,but the reliability of its current pathological diagnosis remains *** To evaluate the accuracy of current 7-point sampling methods and propose an optimal pathological protocol using whole-mount slide imaging(WSI)for better MVI *** We utilized 40 New Zealand white rabbits to establish VX2 liver tumor *** entire tumor-containing liver lobe was subsequently obtained,following which five different sampling protocols(A-E)were employed to evaluate the detection rate,accuracy,quantity,and distribution of MVI,with the aim of identifying the optimal sampling *** VX2 liver tumor models were successfully established in 37 rabbits,with an incidence of MVI of 81.1%(30/37).The detection rates[27%(10/37),43%(16/37),62%(23/37),68%(25/37),and 93%(14/15)]and quantity(15,36,107,125,and 395)of MVI increased significantly from protocols A to *** distribution of MVI showed fewer MVIs farther away from the tumor,but the percentage of MVI detected quantity gradually increased from 6.7%to 48.3%in the distant nonneoplastic liver tissue from protocols A to *** C was identified as the optimal sampling method by comparing them in *** sampling protocol of three consecutive interval WSIs at the tumor center(WSI3)was further screened to determine the optimal number of *** A(7-point sampling method)exhibited only 46%accuracy and a high false-negative rate of 67%.Notably,the WSI3 protocol improved the accuracy to 78%and decreased the false-negative rate to 27%.CONCLUSION The current 7-point sampling method has a high false-negative rate in MVI *** contrast,the WSI3 protocol provides a practical and effective approach to improve MVI diagnostic accuracy,which is crucial for hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis and treatment planning.

Intraspecific differences in effects of co-contamination of cadmium and arsenate on early seedling growth and metal uptake by wheat

A hydroponic experiment was carried out to study intraspecific differences in the effects of different concentrations of cadmium （Cd）（0-10 mg/L） and arsenate （As（V））（0-8 mg/L） on the growth parameters and accumulation of Cd and As in six wheat varieties Jing- 9428, Duokang- 1, Jingdong- 11, Jing-411, Jingdong-8 and Zhongrnai-8. The endpoints of wheat seedlings, including seed germination, biomass, root length and shoot height, decreased with increasing the Cd and As concentrations. Significant differences in seed germination, biomass, root length, shoot height and the accumulation of Cd and As were observed between the treatments and among the varieties （p 〈 0.05）. The lethal dosage 50% were about 20, 80, 60, 60, 80 and 20 mg As/L for Jing-9428, Duokang-1, Jingdong-11, Jing-411, Jingdong-8 and Zhongrnai-8, respectively, and the corresponding values for Cd were about 30, 80, 20, 40, 60 and 10 mg Cd/L, respectively. Among the six varieties, Duokang-1 was found to be the most resistant to Cd and As toxicity, and Zhongrnai-8 was the most sensitive to Cd and As co-contamination. The resistance of the six varieties was found dependant on the seedling uptake of Cd and As. Duokang-1 was the most suitable for cultivation in Cd and As co-contaminated soils.

SIMULATIONS OF THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL TOTAL DISSOLVED GAS SATURATION DOWNSTREAM OF SPILLWAYS UNDER UNSTEADY CONDITIONS

Dams are often operated in a way to discharge over the spillways,which would cause a high dissolved concentration of air and be harmful to *** bubble transfer and the water surface transfer play an important role in affecting the concentration of the Total Dissolved Gas（TDG）.Based on recent numerical simulations of the total dissolved gas saturation,in this article,a two-phase TDG transport equation is adopted to develop an unsteady three-dimensional（3-D） two-phase flow Computational Fluid Dynamics（CFD） model,including a number of parameters such as water depth,pressure and air volume *** model is used to predict the hydrodynamics and the TDG distribution under unsteady discharge *** agreement between measured and numerical results is obtained for a case study.

High throughput bandwidth optimized VLSI design for motion compensation in AVS HDTV decoder

In this paper we present a motion compensation (MC) design for the newest Audio Video coding Standard (AVS) of China. Because of compression-efficient techniques of variable block size (VBS) and sub-pixel interpolation, intensive pixel calculation and huge memory access are required. We propose a parallel serial filtering mixed luma interpolation data flow and a three-stage multiplication free chroma interpolation scheme. Compared to the conventional designs, the integrated architecture supports about 2.7 times filtering throughput. The proposed MC design utilizes Vertical Z processing order for reference data re-use and saves up to 30% memory bandwidth. The whole design requires 44.3k gates when synthesized at 108 MHz clock frequency using 0.18-μm CMOS technology and can support up to 1920×1088@30 fps AVS HDTV video decoding.

Immersed Hypersurfaces in the Unit Sphere S^(m+1) with Constant Blaschke Eigenvalues

For an immersed submanifold x ： M^m→ Sn in the unit sphere S^n without umbilics, an eigenvalue of the Blaschke tensor of x is called a Blaschke eigenvalue of x. It is interesting to determine all hypersurfaces in Sn with constant Blaschke eigenvalues. In this paper, we are able to classify all immersed hypersurfaces in S^m＋1 with vanishing MSbius form and constant Blaschke eigenvalues, in case （1） x has exact two distinct Blaschke eigenvalues, or （2） m = 3. With these classifications, some interesting examples are also presented.

On the Blaschke Isoparametric Hypersurfaces in the Unit Sphere

Given an immersed submanifold x ： M^M → S^n in the unit sphere S^n without umbilics, a Blaschke eigenvalue of x is by definition an eigenvalue of the Blaschke tensor of x. x is called Blaschke isoparametric if its Mobius form vanishes identically and all of its Blaschke eigenvalues are constant. Then the classification of Blaschke isoparametric hypersurfaces is natural and interesting in the MSbius geometry of submanifolds. When n = 4, the corresponding classification theorem was given by the authors. In this paper, we are able to complete the corresponding classification for n = 5. In particular, we shall prove that all the Blaschke isoparametric hypersurfaces in S^5 with more than two distinct Blaschke eigenvalues are necessarily Mobius isoparametric.

A DEVELOPED FULL-FIELD FEM ANALYSIS COMBINED WITH ESPI FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF DEFECT EVOLUTION IN POLYMER FILMS

A full-field finite element method （FEM） analysis combined with electronic speckle pattern interferometry （ESPI） measurement was developed to investigate defect evolution in polymer films. Different from the previous reports, which only compare the ESPI experimental and FEM simulated results at several points or lines, herein the full-field FEM results were exported, subtracted with a continuous distribution. By choosing proper parameters and number of substeps, the simulated and experimental results showed excellent correspondence. Furthermore, the displacement fields vertical to the tensional direction were also presented, and the strain field was preliminarily evaluated. The current method of combination of ESPI and FEM allows for capturing the experimental fringe maps to validate and optimize FEM results simulated, and would give a higher security to structural and mechanical analysis of polymeric materials.

Microstructural characterization in 7 at% Al-containing NiTi-based alloys

The microstructural evolution of Ni–42Ti–7Al and Ni–41Ti–7Al alloys as a function of solution and aging heat treatment was investigated using transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, electron probe, and X-ray diffraction（XRD）. The results reveal that the volume fraction of Ti2 Ni phase as well as its composition does not change significantly after as-solution treated at 1200 °C and aged at 850 °C. At the early stage of the aging treatment at 850 °C for 1 h, the cuboidal β＇ precipitate keeps coherency with the matrix; further aging, β＇ precipitate coarsens, and the semicoherency between the β/β＇ two phases are *** shape of coarsened β＇ precipitates changes to the globule, and the interface dislocations are introduced accompanied by the occurrence of semicoherent precipitates. Under the same heat treatment, compared to the Ni–42Ti–7Al alloy, the lattice misfits of the Ni–41Ti–7Al alloy between the β and β＇ two phases are larger, so the β＇ precipitates in Ni–41Ti–7Al alloy are coarsened severely and easily lose coherency with the matrix. The thermal stability of Ni–41Ti–7Al alloy is much worse when aging at 850 °C.

Preparation of ^(99m)Tc-HYNIC-Annexin V

99mTc-HYNIC-Annexin V was prepared for apoptosis radionuclide imaging in vivo. The expression plas-mid of human Annexin V was constructed and expressed in E. coli.. HYNIC was prepared and used as bifunctional chelating agent for 99mTc labeling. The radiochemical purity, radiolabeling yield and stability of 99mTc-HYNIC-Annexin V were studied. The coding sequence of human Annexin V gene was successfully cloned into the expression vector, and highly expressed in E. coli. A protein with a molecular weight of about 36kD could be in-duced and confirmed by Western Blotting and SDS-PAGE. Annexin V could be labeled with 99mTc using HYNIC,and showed high radiochemical purity of more than 90%. The radiolabeling yield could reach more than 90%. The reac-tion condition was moderate. It suggested that 99mTc-HYNIC-Annexin V may be a promising agent for apoptosis im-aging and clinical application.
