Calculating the Crystallite Size of Microsorum scolopendria AgCl nanoparticles and Their Biological Activities

In this work, AgCl nanoparticles were synthesized from Microsorum scolopendria (MS) aqueous extract and AgnO3 solution. Preliminary confirmation was a color change from a light brown to a dark-colored solution and a UV-Vis spectra surface plasmon resonance peak at 427 nm. Measured vibrational frequencies at 1713 cm1 and 1030 cm1 for C-O stretching of carboxylic acid or aliphatic ketone, and 1547 cm1 for possibly n-O stretching of nitro compounds by Infrared (FTIR) analysis explain the possible biomaterial electronegative species or functional groups responsible for the reduction of Ag ( 1) to Ag (0) for the formation of MS-AgCl nanoparticles. XRD analysis studies revealed that these particles contained face-centered cubic crystallites of metallic AgCl of 100 % with an average calculated crystallite size range of 30.34 nm (SD = 5.10 nm) by Scherrers equation and a calculated crystallite size of 66.04 nm with a lattice strain of 0.00175 nm by Williamson Hall equation. The measured albumin denaturing activity of MS-AgCl nanoparticles gave an IC50 value of 26.70 g/mL and 1.35 g/mL for the positive control diclofenac. Additionally, the measured ability of phosphomolybdate complex formation, the antioxidant IC value of MS-AgCl nanoparticles was 35.29 g/mL, and positive control ascorbic acid was 13.91 g/mL. In all, using MS fern frond aqueous extracts, this preliminary work confirms MS-AgCl nanoparticles as potential therapeutic agents for oxidative stress, inflammatory problems, and related diseases.

为了描述X线透视引导下经皮顺行导尿术(PAUC)治疗雄猫尿路阻塞的技术和预后,设计采用回顾性系列病例,试验动物为不能逆行插入导尿管治疗尿路阻塞的9只家养雄猫。通过从病历获取手术和住院的有关信息以及病历记录和电话交谈得到的长期回访信息,发现诊断患有医源性尿道撕裂的病例(样本例数n=6),尿结石阻塞的病例(n=1),尿道溃疡的病例(n=1)和尿道狭窄的病例(n=1)。9例手术中的7例成功,失败的2例PAUC手术是因为尿道器质性阻塞造成导丝不能插入;手术时间25～120 min。所有病例在手术期间没有出现并发症。1个病例术后因其他病实施安乐死;8个存活的病例中获得了6个病例的随访信息,没有出现因为手术引起的并发症;6个因下尿路再次阻塞的病例在0～42 d内均做了会阴尿道造口术(PU);会阴尿道造口术后,根据病历分析,没有1例出现尿道狭窄,也没有1例出现与该病有关的临床症状。根据评估结果,认为PAUC手术是简单、快速、微创、安全的技术,在选择性病例中便于穿过尿道放置导尿管;对于医源性尿道撕裂的病例也可选择。但对碎石性尿结石、尿道狭窄、尿道溃疡以及非膨胀性的膀胱病例则很少使用PAUC手术。

Screening of antiproliferative activity mediated through apoptosis pathway in human non-small lung cancer A-549 cells by active compounds present in medicinal plants

Objective: To explore the antiproliferative activity and apoptosis in cells caused by active compounds present in plants using different techniques. Methods: We investigated the antiproliferative effects of methanolic extracts from different parts of seven plants on A-549(lung cancer) cells and primary cell culture(chick embryo fibroblast cells, as normal cells) using MTT assay and the potent plant was fractioned further. All these fractions were screened again for anti-proliferative activity. DnA fragmentation and DAPI staining were used to study apoptosis. Quantitative real-time was used to investigate the expression of apoptoticrelated genes. LC-MS and 1 H-nMR techniques were used to identify the active compounds present. EnzCheck caspase-3 assay kit was used to measure caspase-3 activity. Results: Methanolic extract of Vitex negundo(V. negundo) was selected as a potent fraction. Among all fractions screened, ethylacetate fraction of V. negundo was selected as the most potent antiproliferative fraction and phytochemical analysis of the extract revealed the presence of secondary metabolites. Ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo was found to cause characteristic apoptotic morphological changes and generation of ROS in A-549 cells. Ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo also induced apoptosis in A-549 which was supported by DnA fragmentation and DAPI staining. To investigate the molecular mechanism behind the cytotoxic effect of ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo, quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure expression levels of p53, bax, bcl2, casp-3 and casp-9. Using LC-MS and 1 H-nMR techniques, cytotoxic compounds(luteolin and p-hydroxy benzoic acid) were identified which increased casp-3 activity in a dose and time-dependent manner in A-549 treated cells. Conclusions: It is concluded from the present study that V. negundo is capable of triggering growth-inhibitive and apoptosis effects in A-549 cells, signifying that V. negundo may possesses anti-lung cancer

Proliferation of exogenously injected primordial germ cells (PGCs) into busulfan-treated chicken embryos

Aim: This study was designed to investigate the effect of busulfan treatment on the proliferation of chicken primordialgerm cells (PGCs) in vivo, focusing on the preferential settlement of PGCs onto the germinal ridges of chicken em-bryos. Methods: Busulfan (250 ng/egg) was injected into the egg white of freshly oviposited fertilized eggs, whichwere then incubated. Embryonic development and viability were examined, and exogenous PGCs collected from embry-onic blood vessels were injected into the germinal crescent region of recipient embryos. The number of PGCs residedonto germinal ridges of the right and left sides were compared. Results: Busulfan had a slight harmful effect on theembryo viability and the PGCs proliferation. The number of PGCs resided onto the left side of germinal ridges wasslightly higher as compared with the right side. Conclusion: Busulfan suppressed the viability of embryos and the pro-liferation of endogenous PGCs in the recipient embryos. However, the number of exogenous PGCs proliferated washigher in embryos treated with busulfan than those without busulfan. Data also suggest the possibility of a preferentialresidence of PGCs toward the left side of the germinal crescent region as compared with the fight, which may be due toa more advanced functional development of the left gonad than the right. Ameliorating Effects of Thyroxine and Atropine in Phosphamidon Intoxicated chick Embryos

The effects of thyroxine and atropine in ameliorating phosphamidon intoxication in chick embryos was studied. Treatment of phosphamidon significantly enhanced the moriality and abnormalityrates, decreased the average body weights, and cholinesterase activity in chick embryos. When thyroxine was administered to the phosphamidon intoxicated embryos, the above parameters changedsignificantly, indicating an ameliorating effect of thyroxine against phosphamidon intoxication in chick embryos. The combined thyroxine and atropine therapy did not further improve the ameliorating effect. Since in many respects chick embryo development parallels that of mammalian embryos,a short-term use of thyroxine as a protective agent against organophosphate toxicity might be useful

Home range variability and philopatry in Cinereous vultures(Aegypius monachus)breeding in Iberia

Large scavengers are strongly dependent on environmental conditions and carrion distribution and abundance,so season and breeding-related factors may influence the spatial ecology of species such as the Cinereous Vulture(Aegypius monachus),the largest European *** holds one of the biggest populations worldwide,but some aspects of the spatial ecology of the species in this region remain *** this study,17 adult Cinereous Vultures were GPS-tracked in order to study their spatial ecology during the adult *** average monthly home ranges(95%Kernel Density Estimation,KDE)and core areas(50%KDE)were 6543±19,935 km^(2)and 1174±4004 km^(2),*** average monthly home range fidelity ranged between 50 and 73%.Differences in movement-related variables between the seasonal periods(incubation,chick-rearing and non-breeding)were *** the chick-rearing period,the monthly accumulated distance was higher than during the other periods:3316±1108(chick-rearing)vs.1621±622(incubation)vs.1726±1159 km per month(nonbreeding).Additionally,large home range sizes were more frequent during the chick-rearing *** are two likely causes for these seasonal ***,chick-rearing entails a higher energetic expenditure by the parental individuals in foraging activities,so larger movements and foraging areas are expected during this ***,the flight is favoured during spring and summer due to environmental *** chick-rearing and warm months is a great evolutionary advantage for soaring-gliding raptors,as it allows them to cover larger areas with low energy ***,six individuals tagged as nestlings highlight the philopatric behaviour of the species:vultures settle their breeding areas 54±51 km from their natal nest(range=9–138 km).

５７６只新出壳ＡＡ公雏鸡分为两批分别用于Ｍｎ和Ｚｎ的试验。每批分为４组，每组随机地对应高Ｍｎ或高Ｚｎ、低Ｍｎ或低Ｚｎ、无Ｍｎ或无Ｚｎ和标准Ｍｎ或Ｚｎ４种日粮水平的一种。于２、４、６、８、１２、１６、２４、３６、４８、７２、９６和１２０时龄每组分别取雏鸡６只测定卵黄囊中Ｍｎ或Ｚｎ的含量。试验表明，雏鸡出壳２ｈ内卵黄囊Ｍｎ和Ｚｎ的含量分别为０．０１８ｍｇ和０．２２６ｍｇ。日粮中Ｍｎ水平对卵黄囊中Ｍｎ的转移无影响。７２时龄前日粮Ｚｎ水平对卵黄囊中Ｚｎ转移无影响，而此后无Ｚｎ日粮组比高Ｚｎ、低Ｚｎ及标准Ｚｎ组雏鸡卵黄囊中Ｚｎ的转移显著加快（Ｐ≤０．０５）。４８时龄前卵黄囊中大约７５％的Ｍｎ和８５％的Ｚｎ被转移到雏鸡体内。试验期内日粮Ｍｎ和Ｚｎ的水平对雏鸡增重无影响（Ｐ≥０．０５）。但无Ｍｎ及低Ｍｎ日粮组雏鸡在试验后期出现了Ｍｎ的缺乏症状。
