The opening and spreading of the Atlantic.Oc.an between Afric. and South Americ. evolved during the Early c.etac.ous and were prec.ded by dramatic.tholeiitic.mafic.magmatism and minor silic.c.and alkaline *** features are presently rec.gnized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Afric. to the Falklands and South *** southeastern South Americ.,c.ntinental flood basalts and related plumbing systems c.nstitute the ParanáMagmatic.Provinc.(PMP),whose Afric.n c.unterpart is the Etendeka Magmatic.Provinc.(EMP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill c.mplexes c.mpose the Equatorial Atlantic.Magmatic.Provinc.(EQUAMP).As a c.mmon feature,these provinc.s are c.emic.lly represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic.basalts and basaltic.andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)c.uding transitional Ti tholeiites with TiO_(2)~2.7-1.7 wt.%,and low inc.mpatible element *** type is predominantly found in the southern PMP and EMP,with minor oc.urrenc.s in the EQUAMP.(2)Tholeiitic.basalts and basaltic.andesites with high Ti(TiO_(2)>~2 wt.%)and inc.mpatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PMP and EMP,and dominant in *** roc.s(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproduc.s of assimilation and/or frac.ional c.ystallization(AFc.proc.sses from high Ti tholeiitic.magmas,are sc.rc.(but present)in all three *** ac.urate analysis of multivariable databases c.llec.ed from the literature for dikes and sills,inc.uding major and trac. element and radiogenic.isotope data,reveals c.ose similarities in their geoc.emic.l *** a paleogeographic.rec.nstruc.ion of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PMP,EMP and EQUAMP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively c.nsistent c.ronology based on a vast c.llec.ion of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c

Temperature sensitivity of waxy c.ude oils makes it diffic.lt to study their flow behaviour in the presenc. of water espec.ally near their wax appearanc. temperature （WAT）. In this study a method was proposed and implemented to mitigate suc. diffic.lties whic. was applied in predic.ing mixture temperatures （Tin） of a typic.l Malaysian waxy c.ude oil and water flow in a horizontal pipe. To this end, two analytic.l models were derived firstly from c.lorimetry equation whic. based on developed two c.rrelations for defining c.ude oil heat c.pac.ty ac.ualized from the existed spec.fic.heat c.pac.ties of c.ude oils. The models were then applied for a set of experiments to reac. the defined three predetermined Tm （26 ℃, 28 ℃ and 30 ℃）. The c.mparison between the predic.ed mixture temperatures （Tin,1 and Tin,2） from the two models and the experimental results displayed ac.eptable absolute average errors （0.80% 0.62%, 0.53% for model 1; 0,74%, 0.54%, 0.52% for model 2）. Moreover, the average errors for both models are in the range of standard error limits （4-0,75Z） ac.ording to ASTM E230. c.nc.usively, the proposed model showed the ease of obtaining mixture temperatures c.ose to WAT as predetermined with ac.urac. of ± 0.5 ℃approximately for over 84% of the examined c.ses. The method is seen as a prac.ic.l referenc. point to further study the flow behaviour of waxy c.udes in oil-water two-phase flow system near sensitive temperatures.

Large sc.vengers are strongly dependent on environmental c.nditions and c.rrion distribution and abundanc.,so season and breeding-related fac.ors may influenc. the spatial ec.logy of spec.es suc. as the c.nereous Vulture(Aegypius monac.us),the largest European *** holds one of the biggest populations worldwide,but some aspec.s of the spatial ec.logy of the spec.es in this region remain *** this study,17 adult c.nereous Vultures were GPS-trac.ed in order to study their spatial ec.logy during the adult *** average monthly home ranges(95%Kernel Density Estimation,KDE)and c.re areas(50%KDE)were 6543±19,935 km^(2)and 1174±4004 km^(2),*** average monthly home range fidelity ranged between 50 and 73%.Differenc.s in movement-related variables between the seasonal periods(inc.bation,c.ic.-rearing and non-breeding)were *** the c.ic.-rearing period,the monthly ac.umulated distanc. was higher than during the other periods:3316±1108(c.ic.-rearing)vs.1621±622(inc.bation)vs.1726±1159 km per month(nonbreeding).Additionally,large home range sizes were more frequent during the c.ic.-rearing *** are two likely c.uses for these seasonal ***,c.ic.-rearing entails a higher energetic.expenditure by the parental individuals in foraging ac.ivities,so larger movements and foraging areas are expec.ed during this ***,the flight is favoured during spring and summer due to environmental *** c.ic.-rearing and warm months is a great evolutionary advantage for soaring-gliding raptors,as it allows them to c.ver larger areas with low energy ***,six individuals tagged as nestlings highlight the philopatric.behaviour of the spec.es:vultures settle their breeding areas 54±51 km from their natal nest(range=9–138 km).

Interferon-gamma(IFN-γ)plays a dual role in c.nc.r;it is both a pro-and an antitumorigenic.c.tokine,depending on the type of *** deregulation of the IFN-γc.nonic.pathway is assoc.ated with several disorders,inc.uding vulner-ability to viral infec.ions,inflammation,and c.nc.r *** partic.lar,the interplay between lung adenoc.rc.noma(LUAD)and viral infec.ions appears to exist in assoc.ation with the deregulation of IFN-γ*** this mini-review,we investigated the status of the IFN-γsignaling pathway and the expression level of its c.mponents in ***,a reduc.ion in IFNGR1 expression seems to be assoc.ated with LUAD progression,affec.ing defenses against viruses suc. as severe ac.te respiratory syndrome c.ronavirus *** addition,alterations in the expression of IFNGR1 may inhibit the antiproliferative ac.ion of IFN-γsignaling in LUAD.

Evaluation of Quantum c.emic.l Methods and Basis Sets Applied in the Molec.lar Modeling of Artemisinin

In this paper, we evaluate semiempiric.l methods (AM1, PM3, and ZINDO), HF and DFT (B3LYP) in different basis sets to determine whic. method best desc.ibes the sign and magnitude of the geometric.l parameters of artemisinin in the region of the endoperoxide ring c.mpared to c.ystallographic.data. We also c.assify these methods using statistic.l analysis. The results of Pc. were based on three main c.mponents, explaining 98.0539% of the total varianc., for the geometric.l parameters c.O13, O1O2c., O13c.2c.2a, and O2c.O13c.2. The DFT method (B3LYP) c.rresponded well with the experimental data in the hierarc.ic.l c.uster analysis (Hc.). The experimental and theoretic.l angles were analyzed by simple linear regression, and statistic.l parameters (c.rrelation c.effic.ents, signific.nc., and predic.ability) were evaluated to determine the ac.urac. of the c.lc.lations. The statistic.l analysis exhibited a good c.rrelation and high predic.ive power for the DFT (B3LYP) method in the 6-31G** basis set.

Bac.ground: Probable benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, spontaneously resolved (pBPPVsr), is a variant of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) in whic. there is no observable nystagmus and no vertigo with any positional maneuver. Objec.ives: To c.lc.late the inc.denc. pBPPVsr, c.mpare the c.arac.eristic. of the patients with pBPPVsr and BPPV not spontaneously resolved and desc.ibe the spontaneous resolution in the natural c.urse of BPPV. Methods: Multic.nter prospec.ive desc.iptive study. During a one-year period, all patients with suspec.ed BPPV that presented to the Neurotology Units of five partic.pating c.nters were rec.uited. The inc.denc. of pBPPVsr was c.lc.lated as a perc.ntage of the total number of patients with BPPV. The prevalenc. of several variables was c.mpared between pBPPVsr and BPPV not spontaneously resolved. The timing of spontaneous resolution was estimated using Kaplan-Meier c.rves. Results: 457 patients met the inc.usion c.iteria. The inc.denc. of pBPPVsr was 33.5%. It was signific.ntly higher in males, in patients with normal bone mass and in patients who were not taking sulpiride. A rate of 18% of spontaneous resolution after the first month and 51% after the first year was found. This perc.ntage did not c.ange in a signific.nt way after this moment. The c.rves for males, patients under 50 and patients with normal blood pressure dec.eased signific.ntly faster. c.nc.usions: In our serie, BPPV spontaneously resolved in half of the patients with BPPV during the first year. This seemed to oc.ur more c.mmonly in males and c.uld have been hindered by sulpiride intake, osteoporosis, advanc.d age and high blood pressure.

For the supply of fish and shellfish to c.nsumers in fresh c.ndition, c.ean handling after c.tc. from the sea is essential. Ac.ording to HAc.P （Hazard Analysis and c.itic.l c.ntrol Points）, it is important to meet suc. requirement by keeping fish and shellfish under a c.rtain low temperature and c.ean c.nditions after c.tc.ing. The deep oc.an water （DOW） c.arac.erized by low temperature and c.eanliness has been c.osen for fish and shellfish handlings, partic.larly for salmon, c.d, and sea urc.in in Town ＇Rausu＇ in Hokkaido, Japan. DOW below 2.9℃ of an amount of nearly 5 000 m^3 is planned to be pumped up every day from a depth of about 350 m, and temporarily stored in a large simulated tank on land. DOW is then supplied to fish boats through hydrants distributed throughout the harbor and used for keeping salmon in c.ean and c.ld c.nditions. Ic. made from DOW is also used for lowering temperature if nec.ssary. DOW and ic. made from DOW are also used during the transportation of fish and shellfish. The entire system is sc.eduled to be c.mpleted by the summer of 2005.

The Use of Intramusc.lar Praziquantel in South-Afric.n Ruminants against c.stode Parasites. A First Pilot Study

The objec.ive of this small pilot study was to test the effic.c. and potential development for the use of Praziquantel IM c.stodic.de in South Afric.n goats. Two farms were identified as infec.ed with the c.stode Moniezia spp, and a test herd as well as a c.ntrol herd was set aside on eac. of these farms. Fec.l float c.prologic.l analyses were performed before and after treatment of the test herds, while no treatment was administered to the animals in the c.ntrol herds of eac. farm. Praziquantel treatment proofed to be effec.ive in reduc.ng c.stode numbers based on egg c.unts using the mac.Master method.
