From laboratory to on-site operation:Reevaluation of empirically based electric water chiller models

Chiller model is a key factor to building energy simulation and chiller performance prediction.With spread of new types of electric water chillers that have higher performance and wider operating range,new challenges have been faced by building energy simulation tools and their chiller models.This work takes a new type of electric water chiller as a case study and reevaluates eight typical empirically based models for predicting the energy performance of electric water chiller to verify whether they are suitable for the new type of chiller,using both laboratory test data from chiller manufacturer and online monitoring data from on-site operation of a central cooling plant with chillers of the same type.The prediction ability of the chiller models(including model prediction accuracy and generation ability)in laboratory test and on-site operation situations are examined.The results show that the existing models can well describe the chiller performance in the laboratory test situation but perform poorly in the on-site operation situation.As the best two models in the laboratory dataset,the overall prediction errors of DOE-2 and GN model increase more than 250%and 75%respectively in the field dataset.The big discrepancy of model prediction accuracy in the two situations is mainly due to the differences of evaporator and condenser water flow rates between the laboratory and on-site operation datasets,which indicates the limitations of the empirical chiller models and implies further research in future in order to improve the suitability and reliability of chiller model.

Mitochondrial diseases are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders character-ized by mitochondrial dysfunction,and these diseases are often severe or even fatal.Mito-chondrial diseases are often caused by mitochondrial DNA mutations.Currently,there is no curative treatment for patients with pathogenic mitochondrial DNA mutations.With the rapid development of traditional gene editing technologies,such as zinc finger nucleases and tran-scription activator-like effector nucleases methods,there has been a search for a mitochon-drial gene editing technology that can edit mutated mitochondrial DNA;however,there are still some problems hindering the application of these methods.The discovery of the DddA-derived cytosine base editor has provided hope for mitochondrial gene editing.In this paper,we will review the progress in the research on several mitochondrial gene editing technologies with the hope that this review will be useful for further research on mitochondrial gene editing technologies to optimize the treatment of mitochondrial diseases in the future.

Lithospheric structure beneath Ordos Block and surrounding areas from joint inversion of receiver function and surface wave dispersion

Ordos Block has undergone rapid uplift,and a series of rift basins have been formed around the block since the Cenozoic,but the formation mechanisms remain controversial.A high-resolution 3 D velocity structure of crust and mantle is important for understanding the lithospheric deformation and deep dynamic process.A here we present a 3 D S-wave velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle in the Ordos Block and surrounding regions by joint inversion of receiver functions and surface wave data from a dense broadband seismic deployment.The lithosphere of the Ordos Block exhibits an obvious highvelocity anomaly.In the east and north of the Ordos and the southwestern part of the Tibetan Plateau,obvious low-velocity anomalies are detected in the upper mantle and extend into the Ordos.The lithosphere of the Ordos Block is thick in the center and thin at the edge,while the crust is relatively thin in the center and thick in the southwest and northeast.The crustal thickness of the tensional basin in the north is greater than that in the central Ordos.We suggest that the outward expansion of the mantle thermal materials in eastern Tibet and the upper mantle thermal upwelling in the eastern part of the North China Craton lead to the non-uniform lithospheric thinning,temperature rise and density reduction of the Ordos Block.The additional buoyancy and thermodynamic effects provided by them contributed to the continuous uplift of the Ordos Block since the Cenozoic.Influenced by the extrusion of Tibetan Plateau,the crustal thickening and rapid uplift occur in the southwestern and northern parts of the Ordos Block.The lithospheric structures of the Alxa and Ordos Blocks are different,and they may belong to different independent blocks before the Mesozoic.

Effects of electroacupuncture on microcirculatory blood flow and glucose transporter function in the hippocampus

Nerve cell metabolism in post brain ischemia depends on increased microcirculation perfusion and transport function of microvascular endothelial cells. In the present study, a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion was established to investigate the influence of electroacupuncture （EA） on hippocampal CA1 cerebral blood flow and glucose transporter 1 （GLUT1） expression in the microvascular endothelial cells. Following EA at Neiguan （PC 6）, the cerebral blood flow in the ischemic hippocampal CA1 region was significantly elevated, the number and microvascular integrated absorbance of the GLUTl-positive cells were significantly increased, nerve cell damage was ameliorated, and GLUT1 protein expression in the ischemic hippocampus was significantly increased. Results demonstrate that EA increased the cerebral blood flow of the hippocampal CA1 region and improved the glucose transport function, thereby attenuating neuronal injuries.

RR1 and RR2 gene deletion affects the immunogenicity of a live attenuated pseudorabies virus vaccine candidate in natural pig host

As virulence-determining genes, RR1 and RR2 encode the small subunit and large subunit of viral ribonucleotide reductase(RR) in pseudorabies virus which have been extensively studied in mice. However,their role in pigs has not been adequately investigated. In this study, we deleted RR1 and RR2 genes based on a TK/g E/g I triple gene-deleted pseudorabies virus and tested its efficacy in pigs as a vaccine candidate. The rescued virus showed similar growth properties and plaque size in vitro as its parent strain. In an animal study, the virus could elicit humoral immune responses shown by generation of g B-specific antibodies and virus neutralizing antibodies.However, vaccination could not provide protection against virulent pseudorabies virus challenge since vaccinated pigs showed clinical pseudorabies-specific syndromes. The deficiency in protection may due to the generation of late and low levels of gB antibodies and virus neutralizing antibodies.

A millimeter-sized negatively charged polymer embedded with molybdenum disulfide nanosheets for efficient removal of Pb(Ⅱ)from aqueous solution

Molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))has excellent trapping ability for lead ions whereas its micro-/nanoscale size has greatly impeded its practical applications in the flow-through systems.Herein,a millimetersized nanocomposite MoS_(2)-001 was synthesized for Pb^(2+)removal by loading MoS_(2) nanosheets into a polystyrene cation exchanger D-001 by a facile hydrothermal method.The proposed structure and adsorption mechanism of MoS_(2)-001 was confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and X-ray photoelectron spectro scopy(XPS)analysis.The nanocomposite showed outstanding adsorption capacity and rapid adsorption kinetic for Pb^(2+)removal,and the adsorption behavior followed the Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-firstmodel kinetic model.Pb^(2+)uptake by MoS_(2)-001 still maintains a high level even in the presence of extremely highly competitive ions(Ca(Ⅱ)and Mg(Ⅱ)),suggesting its high selectivity for Pb^(2+)adsorption.Besides,the fixed-bed column experiments further certified that MoS_(2)-001 is of great potential for Pb^(2+)removal from the wastewater in practical engineering applications.Even more gratifying is that the exhausted MoS_(2)-001 can be regenerated by NaCl-EDTANa_(2) solution without any significant adsorption capacity loss.Consequently,all the results indicated that MoS_(2)-001 is a promising candidate adsorbent for lead-containing wastewater treatment.

Evolution of isotopic composition and deuterium excess of brines in the Sichuan Basin, China

The isotopic composition and parameters for deuterium excess of brines, which were sampled in the Si-chuan Basin, show obvious regularities of distribution. The brine isotopic composition shows distinct two systems of marine and terrestrial deposits, with the Middle Triassic strata as the boundary. Brine hydrogen isotopic composition of marine deposits is lower while oxygen isotopic composition is higher than that of the SMOW, respectively, indicating that the brines were derived from seawater with different evaporating degrees at different times. From the Sinian strata, up to the Cambrian, Permian Maokou Formation and the Triassic Jialingjiang Formation, the δD values of brines tend to become relatively positive with the strata becoming younger. Brines of terrestrial deposits are considered to have been derived from precipitation and their isotopic composition is close to the globe meteoric water line (GMWL). Brines of transitional deposits between marine and terrestrial ones (the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation) have δD and δ18O values falling between the two end members of marine deposit brines and precipitation, indicating that the brines are a mixture of precipitation and vaporing seawater. Water samples from the brine-bearing strata of different ages show various deuterium excesses (d) with an evident decreasing trend as the age of strata gets older and older. Brine-bearing strata of the Triassic Leikoupo-Jialingjiang Formation, the Permian Maokou Formation, the Cambrian and Sinian strata are all carbonate rocks which have experienced intensive water/rock reaction and the deuterium excess essentially changes with time. All brine-bearing-strata surrounding the basin or faults, as well as those brine wells exploited for resources, have been obviously influenced by the precipitation supply. Therefore, the deuterium excesses of their brines have increased to different extents, depending on the amount of involvement of meteoric water. Do alternative stable states exist in large shallow Taihu Lake,China?

Regime shifts from submersed macrophyte dominance to phytoplankton dominance have been widely reported in small-to medium-sized shallow lakes.However,alternative stable states in large shallow lakes(surface area>500 km^(2))remain unconfirmed.To understand the alternative stable states and the main influencing factors of submersed macrophytes in large lakes,the ecosystem states from monitoring data from 1959 to 2019 in large shallow Taihu Lake(2338 km^(2)in average depth of 2.12 m)in China were examined.Changes in submersed macrophyte coverage(C_(Mac))and phytoplankton chlorophyll a(Chl a)in the time series and their relationships with environmental factors were analyzed.During the field investigation from August 2018 to May 2019,nutrients and Chl a showed obvious heterogeneity across the lake,being generally higher in the western and northern areas and lower in the southeast area,while C_(Mac)was only observed in the eastern areas,e.g.,East Taihu Lake,Xukou Bay,and Gonghu Bay.During the long-term monitoring from 1959 to 2019 in the Central Region,Meiliang Bay,and East Taihu Lake,Chl a increased significantly in the time series.C_(Mac)varied slightly among different subareas,always at low levels(<10%)in the Central Region and Meiliang Bay but at relatively high levels in East Taihu Lake(10%–90%).Frequency distributions of response variables had no multimodality except for C_(Mac)in East Taihu Lake,with two peaks between 15%and 20%and between 55%and 60%.A dual relationship was found between Chl a and total phosphorus(TP)in the areas with and without macrophytes,while C_(Mac)showed no relationship with TP,and submersed macrophytes did not flourish in the Central Region and Meiliang Bay even when TP was at very low levels(≈10 mg/m3).Taihu Lake had similar algal turbidity(TurbAlg)as small-to mediumsized lakes but generally presented with higher values of nonalgal turbidity(TurbNonAlg),as did their contribution to total turbidity as a percentage.This study suggested that large shallow Taihu Lake may have no alternative

A Novel Material for Selective Separation of Mono-galactosyldiacylglycerols from Microalgae

Monogalactosyldiacylglycerols(MGDGs)have potential applications in food products,cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.MGDGs from microalgae with high amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFAs)have potential functions,which arise the interest of the researchers.MGDGs were prepared by silica gel column chromatography with the appropriate mobile phase,while due to the similarity to molecular structure of MGDGs,digalactosyldiacylglycerols(DGDGs)were the most difficult impurities to separate during the extraction process of MGDGs from Nannochloropsis oceanica IMET1 and Arthrospira platensis.In order to obtain MGDGs from microalgae using low toxic solvent system,a novel material Click thiol-ene cysteine(Click TE-Cys)was employed to achieve its selective separation by differentiation of the hydrophilic interaction.The mixture of MGDGs and DGDGs standards were separated from each other by Click TE-Cys solid phase extraction(SPE),which was further confirmed by the result of LC-MS.The molecular interaction of MGDGs and DGDGs with Click TE-Cys demonstrated that DGDGs had more hydrogen bonds with Click TE-Cys material,which might cause a higher hydrophilic interaction.In this study,the Click TE-Cys material exhibited higher hydrophilicity with DGDGs and effectively separated MGDGs from 4 species microalgae by‘flow-through'mode using ethanol as mobile phase.
