An equivalent distributed capacitance model is established by considering only the gate oxide-trap capacitance to explain the frequency dispersion in the C-V curve of MOS capacitors measured for a frequency range from 1 kHz to1 *** proposed model is based on the Fermi-Dirac statistics and the charging/discharging effects of the oxide traps induced by a small ac *** validity of the proposed model is confirmed by the good agreement between the simulated results and experimental *** indicate thatthe capacitance dispersion of an MOS capacitor under accumulation and near flatband is mainly caused by traps adjacent to the oxide/semiconductor interface,with negligible effects from the traps far from the interface,and the relevant distance from the interface at which the traps can still contribute to the gate capacitance is also *** addition,by excluding the negligible effect of oxide-trap conductance,the model avoids the use of imaginary numbers and complex calculations,and thus is simple and intuitive.

Coumarins belong to a diverse group of naturally occurring non-nutrient phytochemicals known as benzo-α- pyrones. In this study, esculetin, a 6,7-dihydroxy derivative of coumarin with pleiotropic biological activities, was found to have no significant cytotoxic effect on normal murine macrophages, but it could increase the in vivo migration of the thioglycollate-elicited macrophages in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, esculetin significantly increased the endocytic activity, and augmented the nitric oxide production and iNOS gene expression in LPS-treated macrophages. In addition, in vivo administration of esculetin into mice was shown to increase the mitogenesis of splenic lymphocytes towards Con A and LPS stimulations, and induced the LAK activity of splenic lymphocytes. Collectively, our results indicate that esculetin could exert immunomodulatory effects on murine macrophages and lymphocytes, both in vitro and in vivo, and this might be one of the possible mechanisms by which coumarins can exert their chemopreventive and anti-tumor activities in vivo. AIM:To determine if there is any difference in longterm graft survival between Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty(DSEK)and penetrating keratoplasty(PK).METHODS:A retrospective 5-year cases analysis of bullous keratopathy secondary to Fuchs’endothelial dystrophy or pseudophakic bullous keratopathy,receiving either DSEK or PK.A total of 42 DSEK cases and 25 PK cases were included in the ***:In the 5-year analysis,graft survival rates were very similar in the two groups(DSEK 77.1%vs PK76.0%.P=0.918.95%CI:-6.3 to 33.4).Sub-analyses at 1y(DSEK 81%vs PK 95%.P=0.085.95%CI:-29 to 3.6)and 2y(DSEK 81%vs PK 88%.P=0.381.95%CI:-25.9 to 11.8)show a trend towards lower survival rates of DSEK vs PK,but the results were not statistically ***:Longterm 5-year graft survival is similar between the DSEK and PK methods of corneal transplant in Chinese patients with bullous keratopathy.

Carpal tunnel syndrome （CTS） accompanied by secondary axonal degeneration cannot be clearly dis- criminated using the current cross-validated ultrasound severity classification system. This study aimed at exploring cut-off values of ultrasound parameters, including wrist cross-sectional area （W-CSA）, wrist perimeter （W-P）, ratio of cross-sectional area （R-CSA） and perimeter （R-P）, changes of CSA and P from wrist to one third distal forearm （△CSA＆AP） for differentiation. Seventy-three patients （13 male and 60 female） were assigned into group A （demyelination only, n = 40） and group B （demyelination with secondary axonal degeneration, n = 33） based on the outcomes of nerve conduction studies （NCS）. Receiver Operative Characteristics （ROC） curves were plotted to obtain sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of cut- off values for all the ultrasound parameters. The overall identified cut-off values （W-CSA 12.0 mm2, W-P 16.27 mm, R-CSA 1.85, R-P 1.48, △CSA 6.98 mm2, △P 5.77 mm） had good sensitivity （77.1-88.6%）, fair specificity （40-62.2%） and fair-to-good accuracy （0.676-0.758）. There were also significant differences in demographics （age and severity gradation, P 〈 0.001）, NCS findings （wrist motor latency and conduction velocity, P 〈 0.0001; wrist motor amplitude, P 〈 0.05; distal sensory latency, P 〈 0.05; sensory amplitude, P 〈 0.001） and ultrasound measurements （W-CSA, W-P, R-CSA, R-P, △CSA＆△P, P 〈 0.05） between groups. These findings suggest that ultrasound can be potentially used to differentiate demyelinating CTS with sec- ondary axonal degeneration and provide better treatment guidance.

Background:Neovascular age-related macular degeneration(AMD)and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PCV)are sight-threatening maculopathies with both environmental and genetic risk *** have previously shown relative risks posed by genes of the complement pathways to neovascular AMD and ***:In this study,we investigated the haplotype-tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in the complement component 5(C5)gene in 708 unrelated Chinese individuals:200 neovascular AMD patients,233 PCV patients and 275 *** tagging SNPs in C5 were *** single SNP association analysis,haplotype-based association analysis and gene-gene interaction analysis between C5 and other AMD-associated genes were ***:The results revealed none of the six tagging SNPs of the C5 gene had a significant association with neovascular AMD or PCV(P>0.05).We also found insignificant haplotype-based association,and no significant SNPSNP interaction between C5 and other genes(including C2-CFB-RDBP-SKIV2L,SERPING1,CETP,ABCG1,PGF,ANGPT2,CFH and HTRA1)for neovascular AMD and ***:This study showed no statistical significance in the genetic association of C5 with neovascular AMD or PCV in a Hong Kong Chinese *** studies in large samples from different populations are warranted to elucidate the role of C5 in the genetic susceptibility of AMD and PCV.

AIM： To test the psychometric properties of a Chinese [（Hong Kong） HK] translation of the chronic liver disease questionnaire （CLDQ）. METHODS： A Chinese （HK） translation of the CLDQ was developed by iterative translation and cognitive debriefing. It was then administered to 72 uncomplicated and 78 complicated chronic hepatitis B （CriB） patients in Hong Kong together with a structured questionnaire on service utilization, and the Chinese （HK） SF-36 Health Survey Version 2 （SF-36v2）. RESULTS： Scaling success was ≥ 80% for all but three items. A new factor assessing sleep was found and items of two （Fatigue and Systemic Symptoms） subscales tended to load on the same factor. Internal consistency and test-retest reliabilities ranged from 0.58-0.90 for different subscales. Construct validity was confirmed by the expected correlations between the SF-36v2 Health Survey and CLDQ scores. Mean scores of CLDQ were significantly lower in complicated compared with uncomplicated CHB, supporting sensitivity in detecting differences between groups.CONCLUSION： The Chinese （HK） CLDQ is valid, reliable and sensitive for patients with CHB. Some modifications to the scaling structure might further improve its psychometric properties,
