Inhibition of pacemaker activity in interstitial cells of Cajal by LPS via NF-κB and MAP kinase

AIM:To investigate lipopolysaccharide(LPS) related signal transduction in interstitial cells of Cajal(ICCs) from mouse small ***:For this study,primary culture of ICCs was prepared from the small intestine of the *** was treated to the cells prior to measurement of the membrane currents by using whole-cell patch clamp *** was used to examine the expression of the proteins in ***:LPS suppressed the pacemaker currents of ICCs and this could be blocked by AH6809,a prostaglandin E2-EP2 receptor antagonist or NG-Nitro-Larginine Methyl Ester,an inhibitor of nitric oxide(NO) ***-like receptor 4,inducible NO synthase or cyclooxygenase-2 immunoreactivity by specific antibodies was detected on ***(antioxidant agent) had no action on LPS-induced action in *** actions were blocked by nuclear factor kB(NF-kB) inhibitor,actinomycin D(a gene transcription inhibitor),PD 98059(a p42/44 mitogen-activated protein kinases inhibitor) or SB 203580 [a p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK) inhibitor].SB 203580 also blocked the prostaglandin E2-induced action on pacemaker currents in ICCs but not ***:LPS inhibit the pacemaker currents in ICCs via prostaglandin E2-and NO-dependent mechanism through toll-like receptor 4 and suggest that MAPK and NF-kB are implicated in these actions.

Effects of prostaglandin F_(2α) on small intestinal interstitial cells of Cajal

AIM：To explore the role of prostaglandin F2α（PGF2α） on pacemaker activity in interstitial cells of Cajal（ICC）from mouse small intestine. METHODS：In this study,effects of PGF2αin the cultured ICC cells were investigated with patch clamp technology combined with Ca 2＋ image analysis. RESULTS：Externally applied PGF2α（10μmol/L）produced membrane depolarization in current-clamp mode and increased tonic inward pacemaker currents in voltage-clamp *** application of flufenamic acid（a non-selective cation channel inhibitor）or niflumic acid（aCl channel inhibitor）abolished the generation of pacemaker currents but only flufenamic acid inhibited the PGF2α-induced tonic inward *** addition,the tonic inward currents induced by PGF2αwere not inhibited by intracellular application of 5’-[-thio]diphosphate trilithium *** with Ca 2＋ free solution, U-73122,an active phospholipase C inhibitor,and thapsigargin,a Ca 2＋ -ATPase inhibitor in endoplasmic reticulum,abolished the generation of pacemaker currents and suppressed the PGF2α-induced tonic inward ***,chelerythrine or calphostin C,protein kinase C inhibitors,did not block the PGF2α-induced effects on pacemaker *** recording intracellular Ca 2＋（[Ca 2＋ ]i）concentration using fluo-3/AM,PGF2α broadly increased the spontaneous[Ca 2＋ ]i oscillations. CONCLUSION：These results suggest that PGF2αcan modulate pacemaker activity of ICC by acting non-selective action channels through phospholipase C-dependent pathway via[Ca2＋]i regulation

Novel extended C-m models of flow stress for accurate mechanical and metallurgical calculations and comparison with traditional flow models

Here,we developed novel extended piecewise bilinear power law(C-m)models to describe flow stresses under broad ranges of strain,strain rate,and temperature for mechanical and metallurgical calculations during metal forming at elevated *** traditional C-m model is improved upon by formulating the material parameters C and m,defined at sample strains and temperatures as functions of the strain *** coefficients are described as a linear combination of the basis functions defined in piecewise patches of the sample strain and temperature domain.A comparison with traditional closed-form function flow models revealed that our approach using the extended piecewise bilinear C-m model is superior in terms of accuracy,ease of use,and adaptability;additionally,the extended C-m model was applicable to numerical analysis of mechanical,metallurgical,and microstructural ***,metallurgy-related values can be calculated directly from the flow stress *** the proposed model was developed for materials at elevated temperatures,it can be applied over a broad temperature range.

High performance of TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O photoelectrodes for regenerative solar energy storage in a vanadium photoelectrochemical cell

Photocatalysts for harvesting solar energy to either electricity or chemical fuels have attracted much attention recently, but they have big obstacles such as wide bandgaps and rapid charge recombinations to overcome for final applications. In this study, we investigates a useful method to utilize vanadium redox pairs, which are commonly applied for vanadium redox flow batteries, to diminish charge recombinations and thus to enhance photocurrent response in regenerative solar energy storage. The results reveal significant improvements in photocurrent density by forming cuprous and cupric oxides in TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes under solar AM 1.5 illuminations using the vanadium photoelectrochemical storage cell at 0.025 mol L^(-1) of vanadium redox species in the acid electrolytes. In addition, the stabilized photocurrent density of the copper content optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes is almost tripled from the TiO_(2) only electrode because the charge recombinations can be mitigated with the content optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes. Therefore, the optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrode results in the highest charge storing performance in the catholyte chamber, and the roles of vanadium redox species are also clearly demonstrated.

Direct synthesis of highly conductive poly（3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene）：poly（4-styrenesulfonate）（PEDOT：PSS）/graphene composites and their applications in energy harvesting systems

We report for the first time highly conductive poly（3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene）： poly（4-styrenesulfonate）（PEDOT：PSS）/graphene composites fabricated by in situ polymerization and their applications in a thermoelectric device and a platinum （Pt）-free dye-sensitized solar cell （DSSC） as energy harvesting systems. Graphene was dispersed in a solution of poly（4-styrenesulfonate）（PSS） and polymerization was directly carried out by addition of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene （EDOT） monomer to the dispersion. The content of the graphene was varied and optimized to give the highest electrical conductivity. The composite solution was ready to use without any reduction process because reduced graphene oxide was used. The fabricated film had a conductivity of 637 ***-1, corresponding to an enhancement of 41%, after the introduction of 3 wt.% graphene without any further complicated reduction processes of graphene being required. The highly conductive composite films were employed in an organic thermoelectric device, and the device showed a power factor of 45.7 μW·m^-1K^-2 which is 93% higher than a device based on pristine PEDOT：PSS. In addition, the highly conductive composite films were used in Pt-free DSSCs, showing an energy conversion efficiency of 5.4%, which is 21% higher than that of a DSSC based on PEDOT：PSS.

Slip-enhanced Reverse Electrodialytic Power Generation in Ion-selective Nanochannels

Power generation by reverse electrodialysis in ion-selective nanochannels is numerically investigated. Especially,in the present study, the influence of hydrodynamic slip at the surface of nanochannels is investigated. The current-potential characteristics of the nanochannels are calculated by solving several governing equations:Nernst-Planck equation for the ionic concentrations, the Poisson equation for the electric potential, and the Navier-Stokes equation for the diffusioosmotic flow. Hydrodynamic slip is applied as the boundary condition at the surface of nanochannels. As the slip length increases, the diffusioosmotic flow velocity and electrical conductance of ions increase because the friction at the surface of nanochannels decreases. It is shown that the power generation is enhanced by 44% with a moderate 100nm slip length by using a nanochannel with 10nm height.

Vertical three-dimensional(3D)integration is a highly attractive strategy to integrate a large number of transistor devices per unit *** approach has emerged to accommodate the higher demand of data processing capability and to circumvent the scaling limitation.A huge number of research efforts have been attempted to demonstrate vertically stacked electronics in the last two *** this review,we revisit materials and devices for the vertically integrated electronics with an emphasis on the emerging semiconductor materials that can be processable by bottom-up fabrication methods,which are suitable for future flexible and wearable *** vertically stacked integrated circuits are reviewed based on the semiconductor materials:organic semiconductors,carbon nanotubes,metal oxide semiconductors,and atomically thin two-dimensional materials including transi-tion metal *** features,device performance,and fabrication methods for 3D integration of the transistor based on each semiconductor are ***,we highlight recent advances that can be important milestones in the vertically integrated elec-tronics including advanced integrated circuits,sensors,and display *** are remaining challenges to overcome;however,we believe that the vertical 3D integration based on emerging semiconductor materials and devices can be a promising strategy for future electronics.

The evolution of membrane-type electronics has facilitated the development of stick-and-play systems,which confer diverse electrical functions to various planar or arbitrary curvilinear *** stick-and-play concept is based on the development of thin electronic devices in a printable format and their subsequent transfer to target *** development of this technology requires control of the interfacial adhesion of the electronic prints for retrieval from a carrier and transfer to the target ***,we discuss the transfer printing for membrane-type electronics,starting from an overview of materials available for flexible substrates,transfer printing of electronic prints for retrieval,and assembly for further ***,we explain the stick-and-play concept based on fabricated membrane-type electronics;"stick" and “play"refer to the transfer of electronic devices and the performance of their electronic functions,*** particular,we broadly survey various methods based on micro/nanostructures,including gecko-inspired,interlocking,cephalopod-sucker-inspired,and cilia structures,which can be employed to stick-and-play systems for enhancing interfacial adhesion with complex target surfaces under dynamic and wet ***,we highlight the stick-and-play system application of micro/nanostructures for skin-attachable biomedical electronics,e-textiles,and environmental monitoring electronics.

Discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy after stent-assisted coil embolisation of cerebral aneurysm:a nationwide cohort study

Introduction Stent-assisted coil embolisation(SACE)for the treatment of unruptured cerebral aneurysms has been increasingly ***-term advantages of antiplatelet therapy(APT)post-SACE treatment are still not well *** investigated the long-term effects of APT on clinical prognosis after *** and methods We conducted a retrospective study using nationwide health insurance claims data from South Korea,including patients with cerebral aneurysm treated with SACE from January 2009 to December *** study outcomes consisted of the occurrence of cerebral infarction and major *** evaluate the impact of APT,we employed a multivariable time-dependent Cox proportional hazards regression model for each of the three distinct periods:1–12 months,12–24 months and>24 months after *** This study included 17692 unruptured cerebral aneurysm patients treated with *** the mean follow-up of 4.2 years,there were 379(2.1%)patients with cerebral infarction and 190(1.1%)patients with major *** percentage of patients receiving APT was 79.5%at 1year,which gradually decreased to 58.3%at 2 years after *** was beneficial in preventing cerebral infarction within 12 months after SACE(adjusted HR(aHR)0.56;95%CI,0.35 to 0.89;p=0.014).After 12 months,this association was not *** increased the risk of haemorrhage after 24 months(aHR 1.76;95%CI 1.11 to 2.87;p=0.016).Discussion and conclusion Our findings suggest that in patients with unruptured cerebral aneurysm treated with SACE,the reasonable duration of APT for preventing cerebral infarction might be 1year after SACE.
