The influence of monomer concentration on the optical properties of electrochemically synthesized polypyrrole thin films

Polypyrrole （PPy） thin films were deposited on stainless steel and ITO coated glass substrate at a constant deposition potential of 0.8 V versus saturated calomel electrode （SCE） by using the electrochemical polymerization method. The PPy thin films were deposited at room temperature at various monomer concentrations ranging from 0.1 m to 0.3 m pyrrole. The structural and optical properties of the polypyrrole thin films were investigated using an X-ray diffractometer （XRD）, FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy （SEm）, and ultravioletvisible （UV-vis） spectroscopy. The XRD results show that polypyrrole thin films have a semi crystalline structure. Higher monomer concentration results in a slight increase of crystallinity. The polypyrrole thin films deposited at higher monomer concentration exhibit high visible absorbance. The refractive indexes of the polypyrrole thin films are found to be in the range of 1 to 1.3 and vary with monomer concentration as well as wavelength. The extinction coefficient decreases slightly with monomer concentration. The electrochemically synthesized polypyrrole thin film shows optical band gap energy of 2.14 eV.

The optical properties of polypyrrole （Ppy） thin films upon 2 meV electron beam irradiation changes with different doses. The induced changes in the optical properties for Ppy thin films were studied in the visible range 300 to 800 nm at room temperature. The optical band gap of the pristine Ppy was found to be 2.19 cV and it decreases up to 1.97 eV for a 50 kGy dose of 2 meV electron beam. The refractive index dispersion of the samples obeys the single oscillator model. The obtained results suggest that electron beam irradiation changes the optical parameters of Ppy thin films.

Background and objectives:Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)techniques provide rapid detection of *** pilot study evaluated the diagnostic utility and clinical impact of multiplex real-time PCR(mRT-PCR,SeptiFast)*** microbial culture(CmC)in bile samples of patients with chronic cholestatic liver diseases(cCLDs),endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography(ERCP),and peri-interventional-antimicrobial-prophylaxis(pAP).methods:We prospectively collected bile samples from 26 patients for microbiological analysis by CmC and *** of the results of both methods was determined by Krippendorff's alpha(α)for inter-rater reliability and the Jaccard index of ***:mRT-PCR_(bile)and CmC_(bile)results were concordant for only Candida albicans(α=0.8406;Jaccard index=0.8181).mRT-PCR_(bile)detected pathogens in 8/8 cases(100%),CmC_(bile)in 7/8(87.5%),and CmCblood in 5/8(62.5%)with clinical signs of ***_(bile),CmC_(bile),and CmCblood had identical detection results in 3/8(37.5%)with clinical signs of infection(two Klebsiella *** one Enterococcus faecium).The total pathogen count was significantly higher with mRT-PCR_(bile)than with CmC_(bile)(62 vs.31;χ^(2)=30.031,pmRT-PCR_(bile)were more often susceptible to pAP according to the patient infection/colonization history(PI/CH)and surveillance data for antibiotic resistance in our clinic(DARC).Pathogens identified by mRT-PC_(Rbile)and resistant to pAP by PI/CH and DARC were likely to be clinically ***:mRT-PCR in conjunction with CmCs for bile analysis increased diagnostic sensitivity and may benefit infection management in patients with cholestatic *** of mRT-PCR in a bile sample-based diagnostic routine can support more rapid and targeted use of antimicrobial agents in cCLD-patients undergoing ERCP and reduce the rate/length of unnecessary administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Soil amendment with fly ash（FA） and combined supplementation with N_2-fixing cyanobacteria masses as biofertilizer were done in field experiments with rice. Amendments with FA levels, 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0 and 10.0 kg/m2, caused increase in growth and yield of rice up to 8.0 kg/m2, monitored with several parameters. Pigment contents and enzyme activities of leaves were enhanced by FA, with the maximum level of FA at 10.0 kg/m2. Protein content of rice seeds was the highest in plants grown at FA level 4.0 kg/m2. Basic soil properties, p H value, percentage of silt, percentage of clay, water-holding capacity, electrical conductivity, cation exchange capacity, and organic carbon content increased due to the FA amendment. Parallel supplementation of FA amended plots with 1.0 kg/m2 N_2-fixing cyanobacteria mass caused further significant increments of the most soil properties, and rice growth and yield parameters. 1000-grain weight of rice plants grown at FA level 4.0 kg/m2 along with cyanobacteria supplementation was the maximum. Cyanobacteria supplementation caused increase of important basic properties of soil including the total N-content. Estimations of elemental content in soils and plant parts（root and seed） were done by the atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Accumulations of K, P, Fe and several plant micronutrients（mn, Ni, Co, Zn and Cu） and toxic elements（Pb, Cr and Cd） increased in soils and plant parts as a function of the FA gradation, but Na content remained almost unchanged in soils and seeds. Supplementation of cyanobacteria had ameliorating effect on toxic metal contents of soils and plant parts. The FA level 4.0 kg/m2, with 1.0 kg/m2 cyanobacteria mass supplementation, could be taken ideal, since there would be recharging of the soil with essential micronutrients as well as toxic chemicals in comparative lesser proportions, and cyanobacteria mass would cause lessening toxic metal loads with usual N_2-fixation.

Objective:To determine the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential of methanol extract of rhizome of Curcuma angustifolia(mECA)against carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in vitro and in ***:DPPH,ABTS and reducing power assays were performed to estimate the antioxidant effect of *** vitro cytotoxicity of mECA against HepG2 cells was evaluated,whereas serum biochemical parameters and levels of antioxidative enzymes were measured in vivo and in ***,histopathological studies were estimated in order to investigate the hepatoprotective efficacy of ***,GC-mS analysis of the extract was performed to identify the chemical ***:mECA exhibited strong antioxidant activity and attenuated CCl4-induced decrease in the viability of HepG2 ***,mECA significantly restored the ALT,AST,ALP,TP and albumin level in comparison with the CCl4 *** pre-treatment with mECA,effects of SOD,CAT and GSH were increased as well as lipid peroxidation amount decreased on CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in in vitro and in vivo ***,histopathological observation confirmed that mECA reduced liver injury induced by CCl4 in ***-mS analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive constituents such as α-tocopherol(12.27%),phytol(7.61%),squalene(3.71%),β-sitosterol(2.19%),eugenol(2.59%),curcumenol(1.20%),β-elemene(1.00%)and eucalyptol(0.89%).Conclusions:mECA contains antioxidant and hepatoprotective constituents such asα-tocopherol,phytol,squalene and eugenol and exerts hepatoprotective effect both in vitro and in vivo.

Induction of Apoptosis in the Human Prostate Cancer Cell Line DU-145 by a Novel micronutrient Formulation

Prostate cancer, the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men, primarily affects males aged 55 and older and is more common in African Americans than Caucasians. Once the cancer has metastasized, current treatments are generally ineffective. We have identified a novel anti-neoplastic agent, a specifically designed nutrient mixture (Nm), containing ascorbic acid, lysine, proline and green tea extract that demonstrates a broad spectrum of anti-tumor activity against a number of human cancer cell lines. In a previous study Nm significantly inhibited prostate tumor in nude mice. In this study, we tested whether the formulation exerts its anti-tumor effects through induction of apoptosis on prostate cancer cell line DU-145. The effect of the nutrient mixture (Nm) on cell growth inhibition in DU-145 cells was examined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (mTT) assay. morphological changes and caspase activation associated with apoptosis induction was checked by H&E staining and Live Green Caspase assay, respectively. The Nm was found to be slightly toxic to DU-145 cells at 100 μg/ml, but significantly toxic at 500 μg/ml and 1000 μg/ml. Percentage of cells undergoing apoptosis also increased from 6% at 100 μg/ml to 49% at 500 μg/ml and 83% at 1000 μg/ml, with greater number of cells showing morphological changes such as condensed nuclei and an acidophilic cytoplasm at higher concentrations. For the purpose of comparison, Nm was also tested on a normal human dermal fibroblast (NHDF) cell line which exhibited far less apoptosis induction as compared to DU-145 cells. The percentage of cells undergoing apoptosis in case of NHDF cells was 7% at 100 μg/ml, 25.6% at 500 μg/ml and 76.5% at 1000 μg/ml. Our results demonstrate that the Nm is effective in inhibiting cancer cell viability and inducing apoptosis in prostate cancer DU-145 cells and can thus be used as an effective treatment for prostate cancer.
