As recent medical progress decreases the incidence of certain diseases, ischemic brain injury remains one of the major dis- eases that threaten human lives, especially in western countries. Ischemic brain injury occurs as a result of lack of oxygen and nutrients due to obstruction of blood flow in the brain, and often leads to neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, depression, and ultimately, death. Around 800,000 Americans suffer a new or recurrent stroke, and more than 130,000 people die annually in the United States （Goldstein et al., 2011）. Despite much effort in searching for an effective treatment, at most a few reagents are approved for therapeutic medication in many countries.

Survival of pathogenic bacteria in compost with special reference to Escherichia coli

Application of compost in agricultural practice could potentially cause contamination of foodstuffs with pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli O157：H7 （E. Coli O157）. We investigated pathogenic bacteria in compost collected from the compost facilities, and evaluated the survival of E. coli K12 and O157 in laboratory experiments. Out of 19 compost product samples, coliform bacteria and salmonella were detected in 7 and 3 samples respectively. The number of coliform bacteria was 1.8 × 10^2 to 2.5 × 10^6 CFU/g dw and that of salmonella was 4.2 × 10^1 to 6.0 × 10^3 CFU/g dw. Moreover. coliform bacteria, fecal coliform, E. coli and salmonella were detected during composting at 54℃ to 67℃. The results indicated that moisture content was a very important factor to the heat sensitivity of pathogenic bacteria in compost, E. coli in compost of high moisture content was more sensitive than that in compost of low moisture content, cells harvested in logarithmic phase was more sensitive than these in stationary phase, and E. coli K12 was more sensitive than E. coli O157. Based on the D values, the lethal time of E. coli K12 and 0157 from 10^8 to 10^0 CFU/g dw were 16.3 and 28.8 min, respectively, at 60℃ in compost with 40% moisture content. However, some E. coli cells survived in composting process at 54℃ to 67℃. Water potential（low moisture content） and physiological aspects of bacteria（stationary phase） could explain only in part of the prolonged survival of E. coli in compost, and there should be some other factors that are conducive to bacterial survial in compost.

In order to clarify the effect of condensate inundation on steam condensation in a large tube bundle, condensation heat transfer and the condensate flow pattern in the tube bundle have been experimentally investigated. Test tube bundle consists of 36 cooling tubes, 12 condensate supply tubes and 24 un-cooled dummy tubes. Cooling test tubes are made of copper and have an outer diameter of 19.1 mm and condensing length of 150 mm, Steam flows horizontally through the test tube bundle at gap velocities 15-27 m/s at pressures of 8.8 kPa. In this study, experimental data about condensate flow pattern and condensation heat transfer in a tube bundle were collected for the optimization of tube arrangement in large power plant condensers.

Regeneration of rat corpora cavernosa tissue by transplantation of CD133＋ cells derived from human bone marrow and placement of biodegradable gel sponge sheet

The objective is to develop an easier technique for regenerating corpora cavernosa tissue through transplantation of human bone marrow-derived CD133＋ cells into a rat corpora cavernosa defect model. We excised 2 mm× 2 mm squares of the right corpora cavernosa of twenty-three 8-week-old male nude rats. AIginate gel sponge sheets supplemented with 1 × 10^4 CD133＋ cells were then placed over the excised area of nine rats. Functional and histological evaluations were carried out 8 weeks later. The mean intracavernous pressure/mean arterial pressure ratio for the nine rats （0.34258 ± 0.0831） was significantly higher than that for eight rats with only the excision （0.0580±0.0831, P = 0.0238） and similar to that for five rats for which the penis was exposed, and there was no excision （0.37228±0.1051, P = 0.8266）. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the nine fully treated rats had venous sinus-like structures and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis of extracts from their alginate gel sponge sheets revealed that the amounts of mRNA encoding the nerve growth factor （NGF）, and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） were significantly higher than those for rats treated with alginate gel sheets without cell supplementation （NGF： P= 0.0309; VEGF： P〈 0.0001）. These findings show that transplantation of CD133＋ cells accelerates functional and histological recovery in the corpora cavernosa defect model.

Tracheoesophageal fistula （TEF） or bronchoesophageal fistula may be congenital, inflammatory, neoplastic, or secondary to trauma. Congenital TEF or bronchoesophageal fistula is usually associated with esophageal atresia and is readily diagnosed in infancy. But if it is not associated with esophageal atresia, it may persist until adulthood. Some theories have been proposed to explain this delay in diagnosis. We present a case of a 70-year-old man with congenital TEF. The TEF was successfully diagnosed by multidetector-row CT esophagography.

Plasmablastic lymphoma(PBL) is a rare form of nonHodgkin's lymphoma that is associated with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection. Although PBL is most commonly observed in the oral cavity of HIV-positive patients, it can also be observed at extra-oral sites in HIV-negative patients. This report represents an unusual case of HIV-negative PBL that occurred in the sigmoid colon. This patient had a history of systemic lupus erythematosus and an underlying immunosuppressive state from long term steroid therapy. The lymphoma cells were positive for CD138, kappa light chain restriction and Epstein-Barr virus and negative for CD20/L26, CD3, CD79 a, UCHL1(CD45RO) and cytokeratin(AE1/AE3). The patient died approximately 2 mo after the operation. In the present paper, we review cases of PBL of the colon in HIVnegative patients.

FoxP3^(+)regulatory T cells(Tregs)play crucial roles in peripheral immune *** addition,Tregs that reside or accumulate in nonlymphoid tissues,called tissue Tregs,exhibit tissue-specific functions and contribute to the maintenance of tissue homeostasis and *** an experimental mouse model of crescentic glomerulonephritis induced by an anti-glomerular basement membrane antibody,Tregs started to accumulate in the kidney on day 10 of disease onset and remained at high levels(~30–35%of CD4^(+)T cells)during the late stage(days 21–90),which correlated with stable disease *** depletion on day 21 resulted in the relapse of renal dysfunction and an increase in Th1 cells,suggesting that Tregs are essential for disease control during the convalescence *** Tregs that accumulated in the kidney showed tissue Treg phenotypes,including high expression of GATA3,ST2(the IL33 receptor subunit),amphiregulin(Areg),and PPARγ.Although T-bet^(+) Tregs and RORγt^(+) Tregs were observed in the kidney,GATA3^(+) Tregs were predominant during the convalescence stage,and a PPARγagonist enhanced the accumulation of GATA3^(+) Tregs in the *** understand the function of specific genes in kidney Tregs,we developed a novel T cell transfer system to T cell-deficient *** experiment demonstrates that ST2,Areg,and CCR4 in Tregs play important roles in the accumulation of GATA3^(+) Tregs in the kidney and in the amelioration of renal *** data suggest that GATA3 is important for the recruitment of Tregs into the kidney,which is necessary for convalescence after renal tissue destruction.

背景人类脂肪来源干（问质）细胞作为间叶细胞谱系（包括脂肪、骨骼肌和心肌、骨、软骨、血管）组织缺损的再生疗法的工具，是很有应用前景的。同其他领域所发生的一样（包括造血干细胞和脐带血细胞在基于细胞的治疗方法中的应用），在未来可能的临床应用中，脂肪来源干细胞深低温保藏也许是一项必不可少的基本技术。方法作者从18例患者抽吸获得的脂肪中分离出脂肪来源干细胞，并在干细胞深低温保藏6个月前后分别检测它们的增殖能力和多功能性，深低温保藏过程遵循他们已确定的方案。通过检测培养细胞的倍增时间对细胞增殖能力进行量化分析，通过分析脂肪来源干细胞向成软骨、成骨和成脂谱系细胞的分化确定细胞的多功能性。另外，通过流式细胞术确定细胞表面标记物的表达谱，并对新鲜的和经深低温保藏的脂肪来源干细胞表面标记物的表达谱进行对比。结果经深低温保藏的脂肪来源干细胞完全保存分化成脂肪细胞、成骨细胞、成软骨细胞的能力及增殖能力。流式细胞术分析结果显示深低温保藏前后细胞表面标记物表达谱保持不变。结论在现有的方案下，脂肪来源干细胞至少可深低温保藏6个月，且不损失任何增殖能力和分化潜能。这些结果保证了自体库存的脂肪来源干细胞在未来临床应用的可用性。
