Termites Improve the Horizontal Movement of Carbonized Particles:A Step towards Sustainable Utilization of Biochar

Soil amendments containing carbonized materials increase the soil carbon reservoir,influence plant productivity,and,ultimately,help to clean the *** is data on the effect of such additions on soil physicochemical properties or plant growth,but few studies have focused on how these carbonized materials are distributed by termite species in the soil *** is the first comprehensive study of the transportation of biochar(BC)by termite species under tropical environmental conditions in *** present study was carried out to test the hypothesis that if termite species I)were involved in the distribution of biochar particles II)if yes,then how far these particles were transported during the study period(10 days)and III)check their preference between the enriched BC(EBC)and non-enriched *** was enriched with the cattle slurry after its pyrolysis in the *** results showed that EBC particles were significantly more widely distributed than non-enriched BC particles,but both types of BC were transported more than 4 cm(ring 4)within 10 days(at the end of the experiment).The current study also revealed that EBC was easily attached to the setae,cuticle,and legs of termites,implying that it could potentially be transported over a greater ***,transportation of EBC over larger distances indicated a potential preference of termite species between the EBC and BC *** the study,however,the preference among the termite species was also *** the prevailing study conditions,the Coptotermes heimi and Heteroterme indicola species transported the EBC further than Microtermes obesi and Odontotermes *** findings revealed that transportation preferences were observed among the four termite *** conclusion,the current study found that termites were involved in the distribution of BC particles,with a preference for EBC and that these have the potential to transport BC particles more than 4 cm within 10 da

High-density genetic mapping identified a major locus for environmental sex expression in pumpkin(Cucurbita moschata Duch.)

Long-day length and high temperature inhibit sex expression in pumpkin(Cucurbita moschata Duch.),and therefore directly impact the production *** this study,female flowering patterns in photoperiod-insensitive(PPIS)and photoperiod-sensitive(PPS)germplasms differed significantly in a moderately long day and high temperature ***,both germplasms exhibited a similar response in short day with either low temperature or high temperature *** sensitivity led to this difference in sex expression between the *** the traits of 1st female flowering node(FFFN)and number of female flowers(NFF),high-density linkage map construction and quantitative trait locus(QTL)mapping were performed using SLAF-seq technology and 162 F_(2) individuals generated from PPIS and *** total,4655 SLAFs were selected and mapped on 20 linkage groups(LGs).The total map length was 2502.01 cM with an average interval distance of 0.75 *** QTLs for both FFFN and NFF were detected on LG6 with intervals of 7.89 and 17.67 cM and PVE values of 30.5%and 22.9%,*** analyses of the major locus for FFFN revealed 73 protein-coding *** them,4 were related to sex expression,photoperiod flowering,and hormone *** InDel(insertion and deletion)marker partially correlated with FFFN of the F_(2) population was also *** study identified the QTL for the sex expression response to environmental factors using the high-density linkage *** identified candidate genes and markers will provide useful information about the molecular interaction between the environment and sex expression and for marker-assisted selection of pumpkin environment-insensitive resources.

Aluminum alloy is the main structural material of aircraft,launch vehicle,spaceship,and space station and is processed by ***,tool wear and vibration are the bottlenecks in the milling process of aviation aluminum *** machining accuracy and surface quality of aluminum alloy milling depend on the cutting parameters,material mechanical properties,machine tools,and other *** particular,milling force is the crucial factor to determine material removal and workpiece surface ***,establishing the prediction model of milling force is important and difficult because milling force is the result of multiparameter coupling of process *** research progress of cutting force model is reviewed from three modeling methods:empirical model,finite element simulation,and instantaneous milling force *** problems of cutting force modeling are also *** view of these problems,the future work direction is proposed in the following four aspects:(1)high-speed milling is adopted for the thin-walled structure of large aviation with large cutting depth,which easily produces high residual *** residual stress should be analyzed under this particular condition.(2)Multiple factors(e.g.,eccentric swing milling parameters,lubrication conditions,tools,tool and workpiece deformation,and size effect)should be considered comprehensively when modeling instantaneous milling forces,especially for micro milling and complex surface machining.(3)The database of milling force model,including the corresponding workpiece materials,working condition,cutting tools(geometric figures and coatings),and other parameters,should be established.(4)The effect of chatter on the prediction accuracy of milling force cannot be ignored in thin-walled workpiece milling.(5)The cutting force of aviation aluminum alloy milling under the condition of minimum quantity lubrication(mql)and nanofluid mql should be predicted.

The rapidly growing world population,water shortage,and food security are promising problems for sustainable *** adopt higher irrigation and fertilizer applications to increase crop production resulting in environmental *** study aimed to identify the long-term effects of intelligent water and fertilizers used in corn yield and soil nutrient status.A series of field experiments were conducted for six years with treatments as:farmer accustomed to fertilization used as control(CON),fertilizer decrement(KF),fertilizer decrement+watersaving irrigation(BMP1);combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizer+water-saving irrigation(BMP2),and combined application of controlled-release fertilizer(BMP3).A significant improvement was observed in soil organic matter(14.9%),nitrate nitrogen(106.7%),total phosphorus(23.9%),available phosphorus(26.2%),straw yield(44.8%),and grain yield(54.7%)with BMP2 treatment as compared to *** study concludes that integrating chemical and organic fertilizers with water-saving irrigation(BMP2)is a good approach to increasing corn productivity,ensuring water safety and improving soil *** limitations of the current study include the identification of fertilizer type and its optimum dose,irrigation water type,and geographical position.

Curcumin preconditioning enhances the efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells to accelerate healing of burn wounds

Background:Following recent findings from our group that curcumin preconditioning augments the therapeutic efficacy of adipose-derived stem cells in the healing of diabetic wounds in rats,we aimed to investigate the regenerative effects of curcumin preconditioned adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(ASCs)for better recovery of acid inflicted burns in this ***:ASCs were preconditioned with 5μM curcumin for 24 hours and assessed for proliferation,migration,paracrine release potential and gene expression comparative to naive ***,the healing capacity of curcumin preconditioned ASCs(Cur-ASCs)versus naive ASCs was examined using acidic wounds in *** this,acid inflicted burns of 20 mm in diameter were made on the back of male Wistar ***,2×10^(6) cells of Cur-ASCs and naive ASCs were intradermally injected in the wound periphery(n=6)for comparison with an untreated saline ***-transplantation,wounds were macroscopically analysed and photographed to evaluate the percentage of wound closure and period of *** wound biopsies were excised and used for histological evaluation and expression analysis of wound healing markers at molecular level by quantitative PCR and western ***:We found that Cur-ASCs exhibited greater proliferation,migration and paracrine potential in ***,Cur-ASCs showed more effective recovery than naive ASCs as exhibited by gross morphology,faster wound closure and earlier ***’s trichrome and hematoxylin and eosin staining demonstrated the improved architecture of the healing burns,as evidenced by reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells,compact collagen and marked granulation in Cur-ASC treated *** these findings,molecular assessment showed significantly reduced expressions of pro-inflammatory factors(interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor alpha)a with striking upsurge of an oxidative marker(superoxide dismutase 1),p

Fiber-reinforced composites have become the preferred material in the fields of aviation and aerospace because of their high-strength performance in unit *** composite components are manufactured by near netshape and only require finishing operations to achieve final dimensional and assembly *** and grinding arise as the preferred choices because of their precision ***,given their laminated,anisotropic,and heterogeneous nature,these materials are considered *** undesirable results and challenging breakthroughs,the surface damage and integrity of these materials is a research hotspot with important engineering *** review summarizes an up-to-date progress of the damage formation mechanisms and suppression strategies in milling and grinding for the fiber-reinforced composites reported in the ***,the formation mechanisms of milling damage,including delamination,burr,and tear,are ***,the grinding mechanisms,covering material removal mechanism,thermal mechanical behavior,surface integrity,and damage,are ***,suppression strategies are reviewed systematically from the aspects of advanced cutting tools and technologies,including ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining,cryogenic cooling,minimum quantity lubrication(MQL),and tool optimization *** vibration shows the greatest advantage of restraining machining force,which can be reduced by approximately 60%compared with conventional *** cooling is the most effective method to reduce temperature with a maximum reduction of approximately 60%.MQL shows its advantages in terms of reducing friction coefficient,force,temperature,and tool ***,research gaps and future exploration directions are prospected,giving researchers opportunity to deepen specific aspects and explore new area for achieving high precision surface machining of fiber-reinforced composites.

To the Editor:Regeneration is a common phenomenon among many animals including;starfish,salamander,zebrafish and *** creatures have a natural ability to regrow their accidentally lost body parts,for example flatworms can regenerate their lost head.[1]But not all organisms can regenerate their whole body ***,this natural phenomena is akin with the modern day advancement in stem cell biology and developmental biology,which has enabled scientists to not only study organs in vitro but also achieve new frontiers in regenerative medicine[2].
