Advances in modern semiconductor integrated circuits have always demanded faster and more sensitive analytical methods on a large-scale *** surface of wafers is fundamentally essential to start building circuits,and quantitative measures of the surface potential,defects,contamination,passivation quality,and uniformity are subject to *** present study provides a new approach to access those by means of terahertz(THz)emission *** femtosecond laser illumination,THz radiation,which is sensitive to the surface electric fields of the wafer,is ***,we systematically research the THz emission properties of silicon surfaces under different surface conditions,such as the initial surface with a native oxide layer,a fluorine-terminated surface,and a hydrogenterminated ***,a strong doping concentration dependence of the THz emission amplitude from the silicon surface has been revealed in different surface conditions,which implies a semiquantitative connection between the THz emission and the surface band bending with the surface ***-induced THz emission spectroscopy is a promising method for evaluating local surface properties on a wafer scale.

In the present paper. a numerical model for MAG (metal active gas) arc welding of thin plate has been developed. In MAG arc welding, the electrode wire is melted and supplied into the molten pool intermittently. Accordingly, it is assumed on the modeling that the thermal energy enters the base-plates through two following mechanisms, i.e., direct heating from arc plasma and 'indirect' heating from the deposited metal. In the second part of the paper, MAG arc welding process is numerically-analyzed by using the model. and the calculated weld bead dimension and surface profile have been compared with the experimental MAG welds on steel plate. As the result. it is made clear that the model is capable of predicting the bead profile of thin-plate MAG arc welding, including weld bead with undercutting.

The liver comprises cell layers of hepatocytes called trabeculae, which are separated by vascular sinusoids. Under- standing the structure of hepatic trabeculae and liver sinusoids in hematoxylin and eosin (HE)-stained liver specimens is important for the differential diagnosis of liver diseases. In this study, we develop an approach to extracting liver sinusoids from HE-stained images. The proposed approach involves: 1) a new orientation-selective filter (OS filter) for edge enhancement and image denoising, 2) the clustering of image pixels to identify candidate sinusoids, and 3) a classification procedure that discards unlikely candidates and selects the final sinusoid areas. Experimental studies using a database of 16 images with a resolution of 512 × 512 pixels showed that the proposed approach could segment liver sinusoid pixels with 81% of specificity and 94% of sensitivity. A comparison with a method based on bilateral filters showed that this method improved the sensitivity for all images with an average improvement of 4% and no difference in specificity. The results were presented to a group of pathologists and they confirmed that the images were highly representative of the tissue morphology features.

There have been numerous single-channel measurements performed in one area of the prefrontal cortex regarding brain activity while driving.[1]The steering action while driving a vehicle is simulated,and the seated subjects move each of their hands in a clockwise and counterclockwise circular motion. Simultaneously,the brain act ivity of the subjects was measured using near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS).Since the optic pathways in the brain process information using two pathways,a ventral(objects’shape and color)and dorsal(movement and position)pathway, which are believed to be integrated in the prefrontal cortex of the frontal lobe,the area we measured was the area in the vicinity of the prefrontal cortex of the frontal *** details regarding the circular movement include holding a mouse at a desk,and drawing a circle with a diameter of about 30 *** circles are drawn at a pace of about one circle every four seconds,with the measurements taken over a durat ion of 20 s(total 5 circles).The measurement intervals consist of a 10-s break, the 20-s task,followed by another 10-s break, repeated over 5 *** subjects used in our study were all right-handed males in their twent ies who had a histor y of driving.

We report a case of hypovascular advanced hepa-tocellular carcinoma (HCC) successfully treated with a novel combination therapy of percutaneous ethanol-lipiodol injection (PELI) and intervention radiology (IVR),lipiodol-targetting IVR (Lipi-IVR). The present case had a hypovascular HCC (3 cm in diameter) located in the S6 region of the liver. Although the tumor was not detectable at all by both of early and late phase of helical dynamic computed tomography (CT),it could be detected by ultrasonography (US) as a low echoic space occupying lesion (SOL) beside the gallbladder and right kidney. Serum levels of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and AFP-L3 were extremely high. Combination therapy of PELI,firstly reported in our department,and IVR (PELI and IVR,lipiodol-targetting IVR) was performed twice for the treatment. PELI could effectively visualize the location of the tumor for IVR treatment and show the presence of a thin blood vessel branching from the right hepatic artery flowing into the lipiodol deposit. After treatment,the serum levels of AFP and AFP-L3 were rapidly decreased to normal and maintained for more than eight months. Thus,this case expressing the tremendous effect might give us insight into the effectiveness of the novel combination therapy of PELI and IVR for the treatment of hypovascular HCC.
