Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 in irritable bowel syndrome: An individual subject meta-analysis

AIMTo confirm previous conclusions on Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) CNCM I-3856 for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) *** individual patient data meta-analysis was performed on two randomized clinical trials studying the effect of S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 supplementation on gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in IBS subjects. A total of 579 IBS subjects were included. Outcomes were the daily Likert scale scores of abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating [area under the curve (AUC) and weekly means], responder status, and bowel movements (stool frequency and consistency). Statistical analyses were conducted in Intent to Treat (ITT) population, IBS-C subjects and IBS-C subjects with an abdominal pain/discomfort score higher than or equal to 2 at baseline (“IBS-C ≥ 2 subpopulation”).RESULTSS. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 significantly improved abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating during the second month of supplementation [AUC (W5-W8)] with improvement up to the minimal clinically relevant threshold of 10%: a 12.3% reduction of abdominal pain/discomfort in the ITT population compared to the placebo group (p = 0.0134) has been observed. In the IBS-C ≥ 2 subpopulation, there were a 13.1% reduction of abdominal pain/discomfort and a 14.9% reduction of bloating compared to the placebo group (p = 0.0194 and p = 0.0145, respectively). GI symptoms significantly decreased during supplementation but no statistical differences were reported between groups at the end of the supplementation period. Responder status was defined as a subject who experienced a decrease of 1 arbitrary unit (a.u.) or 50% of the abdominal discomfort score from baseline for at least 2 wk out of the last 4 wk of the study. Factors Associated with Closely Spaced pregnancies at the Departmental Hospital Centre of Zou-Collines (Benin) in 2022

Introduction: Birth spacing to prevent closely-spaced pregnancies, which are a source of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, is not always respected by our women, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). The objective was to study the factors associated with closely-spaced pregnancies among women followed at the Departmental Hospital Center du Zou et du Colline (DHC/Z-C) in 2022. Study Method: This was a descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection from 20 May to 30 June 2022. Results: At the end of the study, 83 of the 117 women surveyed had close pregnancies, a frequency of 70.94%. They had an average age of 27.0 ± 6.3 years and were of Fon ethnicity and related in 91.57% of cases. The majority were married (96.60%). The factors significantly associated with these closely spaced pregnancies were age between 25 and 30 years, household occupation, age at first birth, age at marriage, women’s perception of contraceptive method (CM), women’s knowledge of the existence of a center providing family planning services and non-use of MC. Conclusion: Close pregnancies are still very common in the commune of Abomey. It is therefore important to increase the use of contraceptive methods in this part of the country.

Associated Factors and Consequences of Uterine Fibroids in Hospitals in the Borgou Department of Benin in 2022

Introduction: Uterine fibroids are the most common gynecological tumors in women of childbearing age and have multiple clinical manifestations. Objective: To determine factors associated with uterine fibroids in the Borgou department of Benin in 2022. Method: Descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study from August 22 to September 22, 2022. The sample consisted of women consulting for gynecological problems in 6 hospitals in the Borgou department in the North of Benin. Results: Of the 744 women surveyed, 10.1% were diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Women with uterine fibroids were often married, paucigesture, and nulliparous. Their main reasons for consultation were the desire for motherhood (50.7%), pelvic pain (46.7%), and genital hemorrhage (14.7%). Age, history of miscarriage, high blood pressure, and diabetes were significantly associated with the presence of uterine fibroids (Conclusion: Uterine fibroids are common in hospitals in northern Benin. There were factors associated with them that should be taken into account in management strategies.

A new interaction between Abi-1 and βpIX involved in pDGF-activated actin cytoskeleton reorganisation

A neuron with injured or severed axon responds with attempts at axonal regrowth. In this regard, axonal regeneration of peripheral nerves occurs far more efficiently compared to central nervous system （CNS） neurons. The latter typically could not form a proper growth cone, and any axonal regeneration in vivo is very limited. The adult CNS environment is not conducive for axonal regrowth. An extensive body of work has revealed mechanisms whereby the myelin-associated inhibitors and extracellular matrix chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans promote collapse of axonal growth cones or repel their advances （Lee and Zheng, 2012）. The public's participation rate in performing arts in Hong Kong has historically been low,and the Arts participation and Consumption Survey in 2018 indicated that the primary reason was 4a lack of interest*and that education in the arts could increase public *** survey data clearly indicate the significance of education as a driver to develop future *** are nine major performing arts organisations funded by the Hong Kong government,and they share the responsibility of shaping the performing arts *** study explored the role of outreach and education within these major performing arts organisations and how they impact audience *** addition to document analysis and fieldwork,the researcher interviewed five cultural leaders from the nine performing arts *** findings of this study indicate that while the organisations*outreach and education engagement help to achieve various important educational goals,direct impact on ticket sales is not easily quantifiable and may occur in the long *** study concludes by offering a proposed conceptual framework for outreach and education when they are positioned in non-profit performing arts *** four layers in the proposed conceptual framework involve cognitive,affective,ethical,and behavioural *** contributes to reframing the conceptualisation of audience development for the performing arts and sheds new light on the future of outreach and education in arts organisations and policymaking in arts and culture,with far-reaching implications for other non-profit cultural organisations in Hong Kong and globally.

Translating Culture-Bound Elements:A Case Study of Traditional Chinese Theatre in the Socio-Cultural Context of Hong Kong

This study explores the controversy surrounding the translation of the name of a new cultural infrastructure in Hong Kong,specifically related to the cultural heritage of traditional Chinese *** first performing arts landmark in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District was named the Xiqu Centre;the term xiqu is a Hanyu pinyin representing traditional Chinese *** this translation issue has been intensely debated for over a decade,it remains unexplored in the *** reference to Venuti's translation strategies of foreignization and domestication,this study examines the Hong Kong public's views on the translation of the name of this cultural landmark and the underlying drivers of their *** uses internet-based surveys,semi-structured interviews with the public,and interviews with experts as data *** results revealed that factors of(1)aesthetics and artistry,(2)cultural identity,and(3)publicity and internationalization have contributed to public *** study^findings shed new light on how translation interacts with cultural,social,and political factors by examining how Hong Kong’s unique historical relationship with China and the West has played a role in this translation *** findings have significant implications for the translation of culture-bound elements and the transmission of cultural heritage in Hong Kong and worldwide.

An air quality forecasting system in Beijing-Application to the study of dust storm events in China in May 2008

An air pollution forecast system,ARIA Regional,was implemented in 2007–2008 at the Beijing Municipality Environmental Monitoring Center,providing daily forecast of main pollutant *** chemistry-transport model CHIMERE was coupled with the dust emission model MB95 for restituting dust storm events in springtime so as to improve forecast *** storm events were sporadic but could be extremely intense and then control air quality indexes close to the source areas but also far in the Beijing area.A dust episode having occurred at the end of May 2008 was analyzed in this article,and its impact of particulate matter on the Chinese air pollution index （ApI） was *** our estimation,about 23 Tg of dust were emitted from source areas in Mongolia and in the Inner Mongolia of China,transporting towards *** episode of dust storm influenced a large part of North China and East China,and also South *** model result was then evaluated using satellite observations and in situ *** simulated daily concentrations of total suspended particulate at 6：00 UTC had a similar spatial pattern with respect to OMI satellite aerosol *** evolution of dust plume was evaluated by comparing dust aerosol optical depth （AOD） calculated from the simulations with AOD derived from MODIS satellite ***,the comparison of reported Chinese ApI in Beijing with ApI calculated from the simulation including dust emissions had showed the significant improvement of the model results taking into accountmineral dust correctly.
