Objective:To analyze the chemical composition of the essential oils of Curcuma aeruginosa (***),Curcuma mangga(***),and Zingiber cassumunar(***). and study their antimicrobial ***:Essential oils obtained by steam distillation were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass speclrometry(GC-MS).The antimicrobial activity of the essential oils was evaluated against four bacteria:Bacillus cereus(***).Staphylococcus aureus(***).Escherichia coli(***).and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***);and two fungi:Candida albicans(***) and Cyptococcus neoformans(***),using disc-diffusion and broth microdilution ***:Cycloisolongifolene,8.9-dehydro-9- formyl(35.29%) and dihydrocoslunolide(22.51%) were the major compounds in *** oil; whereas caryophyllene oxide(18.71%) and caryophyllene(12.69%) were the major compounds in *** oil:and 2,6.9,9-tetramethyl-2.6.10-cycloundecatrien-1-one(60.77%) andα-caryophyllene(23.92%) were abundant in *** *** essential oils displayed varying degrees of antimicrobial activity against all lested *** oil had the highest and most broad-spectrum activity by inhibiting all microorganisms tested,with *** being the most sensitive microorganism by having the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration(MFC) values of 0.1μL/mL. *** oil showed mild antimicrobial activity,whereas *** had very low or weak activity against the tested ***:The preliminary results suggest promising antimicrobial properties of *** and ***,which may be useful for food preservation,pharmaceutical treatment and natural therapies.

Objective:To investigate the antimicrobial property of mangrove plantSonneratia alba(S. alba).Methods:The antimicrobial activity was evaluated using disc diffusion and microdilution methods against six microorganisms. Soxhlet apparatus was used for extraction with a series of solvents,n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol in sequence of increasing ***:Methanol extract appeared to be the most effective extract whilen-hexane extract showed no activity. The antimicrobial activities were observed against the gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) and Bacillus cereus(B. cereus), the gram negative Escherichia coli(E. coli) and the yeast Cryptococcus neoformans. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans appeared to be not sensitive to the concentrations tested since no inhibition zone was observed.E. coli(17.5 mm) appeared to be the most sensitive strain followed by S. aureus(12.5 mm)and B. cereus(12.5 mm).Conclusions:From this study, it can be concluded that S. alba exhibit santim icrobial activities against certain microorganisms.

Objective:To study the chemical constituents of stembark of Garcinia malaccenm（***） together with *** and antioxidant ***:Purification and structure elucidation were carried out by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, *** and trypan blue exclusion methods were performed to study the cytotoxic *** activity was conducted by dise diffusion and microdilulion methods, whereas antioxidant activities were done by ferric thiocyanate method and DPPH radical ***:The phylochemical study led lo the isolation ofα,β-mangostin and cycloarl-24-en-3β-ol.α-Mangostin exhibited cytotoxic activity against HSC-3 cells with an IC50 of 0.33μM.β- andα-mangostin showed activity against K562 cells with IC50 of 0.40μM and 0.48μM,respectively,α-Mangostin was active against Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus（***） and Bacilus anthracis（***） with inhibition zone and MIC value of（19 mm;0.02S mg/mL） and（20 mm;0.013 mg/mL）,*** antioxidant assay,α-mangostin exhibited activity as an inhibitor of lipid ***:*** presenceα- andβ-mangostin and cycloart-24-en-3β-ol.β-Mangostin was found very active against ***-3 cells and *** results suggest that mangoslins derivatives have the potential to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inducing *** addition,α-andβ-mangostin was found inhibit the growth of Cram-positive pathogenic bacteria and also showed the activity as an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation.

Polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity in organically and conventionally grown vegetables

Objective:To determine the total phenolic content,antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the extracts from Calophyllum ***:The extracts were tested for their antioxidant activity by the DPPH radical scavenging assay and the β-carotene bleaching assay,while the antimicrobial activity was determined by disc diffusion ***:All the tested extracts showed antioxidant and antimicrobial *** extracts showed moderate antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with zone of inhibition values of 10,11 and 12 mm for n-hexane,dichloromethane and methanol extracts respectively at 30μg/disc.N-hexane showed low antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa(5 mm)at 30μg/*** total phenolic test showed that methanol has high phenolic content(162.25 mg GAE/g of extract)compared to the other ***:The ability of the extracts to inhibit microbial growth at a concentration of 30μg/disc indicated the its potent antimicrobial activity.

Objective:To test direct and indirect antimicrobial properties of α-mangostin towards a number of bacteria and ***:Activity of α-mangostin paired with an antibiotic was studied by calculating its fractional inhibitory concentration(FIC).Results:The experiment was carried out using broth microdilution and checkerboards *** showed no interaction with the combination withα-mangostin where the FIC indexes were between the range of 0.5*** of doxycycline on Pseudomonas aeruginosa fell into other set of range,FIC_(index)≥4 which is an *** activity of all four bacteria towards ampicillin,penicillin G,streptomycin and Conclusions:The FIC index is far away in the *** coupled antibiotic andα-mangostin is considered synergy in action if it lies in FIC_(index)≤0.5 and it was found that the isolated compound,α-mangostin revealed very low synergistic antimicrobial effects when coupled with antibiotics.

Objective:To evaluate antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of stembark of Shorea kunstleri(***)together with analysis of phytochemical and total phenolic ***:Extraction was conducted with different solvent polarity of n-hexane,dichloromethane(DCM)and methanol by using Soxhlet *** phenolic content was determined using Folin-Ciocalteu *** radical scavenging activity and inhibition of lipid peroxidation were evaluated with DPPH radical scavenging and ferric thiocyanate assays,*** activities were performed using disc diffusion method,minimum inhibition concentration(MIC),minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC),and minimum fungicidal ***:*** stembark extracts revealed presence of steroids,terpenoids,saponins,flavonoids,and phenolic *** extract exhibited the highest total phenolic content and free radical scavenging activity resulting in phenolic content of(8.340±0.003)g GAE/100 g of extract and(95.90±1.07)%DPPH inhibition(IC_(50)value of 18.6μg/mL),*** thiocyanate assay of n-hexane,DCM,and methanol extracts indicated lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity of(74.20±0.35)%,(74.00±0.10)%,and(72.80±0.27)%,*** antimicrobial and antifungal tests,methanol extract showed inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus(***),Candida albicans,and Candida tropicalis with inhibition zones of 10-12,18-22,and 18-19 mm,*** MIC test of methanol extract showed highest inhibition against Candida albicans and ***(0.04 and 0.08 mg/mL,respectively)while DCM extract exhibited the highest activity towards Candida tropicalis(MIC value of 0.63 mg/mL).Taken together,MBC test of methanol extract strongly demonstrated bactericidal effect against *** with MBC value of 0.08 mg/***:The study demonstrated that stembark extracts of *** possessed antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

The effect of calcination temperature on the capacitive properties of WO3-based electrochemical capacitors synthesized via a sol-gel method

Electrochemical capacitor （EC） is a promising energy storage device which can be hybridized with other energy conversion or energy storage devices. One type of ECs is pseudocapacitor made of metal oxides. WO3 is an inexpensive semiconductor metal oxide which has many applications. However the application of WO3 as an EC material was rarely reported. Therefore in this research EC was prepared from WO3 nanomaterial synthesized by a sol-gel process. The WO3 gel was spin-coated on graphite substrates and calcined at various temperatures of 300~C, 400℃, 500℃ and 600℃ for 1 h. Cyclic voltammetry （CV） measurements were used to observe the capacitive property of the WO3 samples. SEM, XRD, FTIR and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） analyses were used to characterize the material structures. WO3 calcined at 400~C was proved to have the highest capacitance of 233.63 Fo g^-1 （1869 mFo cm-2） at a scan rate of 2 mVo s-1 in 1 mol/L H2SO4 between potentials -0.4 and 0.4 V vs. SCE. Moreover it also showed the most symmetric CV curves as the indication of a good EC. Hence WO3 calcined at 400℃ is a potential candidate for EC material of pseudocapacitor type.

Analysis of microplastics in spring water

Springs are crucial as primary water sources for various human needs,including in Batu City,East Java,*** the integrity of these springs is essential to protect them from contamination,including emerging pollutants such as microplastics,which have been reported in aquatic ***,it is vital to analyze the presence of microplastics in springs to mitigate ***,there is a lack of studies reporting the content of microplastics in springs,particularly in Batu *** study aims to analyze microplastics in multiple springs within Batu City using a descriptive research *** research materials encompass the abundance and characteristics of microplastics and various water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen,pH,temperature,turbidity,color,total dissolved solids,taste,odor,and current *** was conducted at six springs in Batu City:Sumber Ngesong,Sumber Banyuning,Sumber Gemulo,Sumber Torong Belok,Sumber Kasinan,and Sumber *** findings of this study indicate that the water quality in the springs of Batu City complies with established ***,microplastics were detected in all the sampled springs,with concentrations ranging from 208 to 354 particles/m^(3).The identified microplastics primarily included fibers,films,and *** polymers obtained in this study were Nylon,Low-Density Polyethylene(LDPE),Polyethylene terephthalate(PETE),and Polyvinyl chloride(PVC).Based on the study results,while the water in the spring area of Batu City meets water quality standards,it is necessary to implement mitigation measures to address the emerging pollutant pollution,such as microplastics,to safeguard the springs as a vital water source for human *** the best of our knowledge,this study is the first to report the characteristics of microplastics in the springs of Batu City.
