Genotypes of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding

AIM:Helicobacter pyloricauses chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer,gastric cancer and MALT-lymphoma. Different genotypes of Helicobacter pylori are confirmed from diverse geographic areas. Its association with bleeding peptic ulcer remains *** aim of this study was to investigate the Helicobacter pylori vacA alleles, cagA and iceA in patients with bleeding peptic ***:We enrolled patients with bleeding, nonbleeding peptic ulcers and chronic gastritis. Biopsy specimens were obtained from the antrum of the stomach for rapid urease test, bacterial culture and PCR assay. DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction were used to detect the presence or absence of cagA and to assess the polymorphism of vacA and ***: A total of 168 patients (60.4%) (25 patients with chronic gastritis, 26 patients with bleeding gastric ulcer,51 patients with non-bleeding gastric ulcer, 26 patients with bleeding duodenal ulcer, and 40 patients with non-bleeding duodenal ulcer) were found to have positive PCR results between January 2001 and December 2002. Concerning genotypes, we found cagA (139/278, 50%), vacA s1a(127/278, 45.7%), and iceA1 (125/278, 45%) predominated in all studied patients. In patients with bleeding peptic ulcers,vacA s1a and m1T were fewer than those in patients with non-bleeding peptic ulcers (37/106 vs 69/135, P=0.017, and 4/106 vs 21/135, P=0.002).CONCLUSION:In patients with peptic ulcers, Hpylori vacA s1a and m1T prevent bleeding complication.

AIM: Helicobacter pylori( H pylori) has been linked to chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric cancer and *** link of genotypes of Hpylorito gastric cancer remains controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate the Hpylori vacA alleles, cagA and iceA in patients with gastric cancer in ***: Patients with gastric cancer, peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis were enrolled in this study. We obtained biopsy specimens from the stomach at least 2 cm away from the tumor margin in patients with gastric cancer, and from the antrum of stomach in patients with peptic ulcer or chronic gastritis. DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction were used to detect the presence or absence of cagA and to assess the polymorphism of vacA and ***: A total of 168 patients (gastric ulcer: 77, duodenal ulcer: 66, and chronic gastritis: 25) were found to have positive PCR results of the biopsy specimens from patients with peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis. We found positive cagA (139/168, 83%), m2 (84/168, 50%) and iceA1 (125/168,74%) strains in the majority of patients. In patients with gastric cancer, the vacA sla and slc subtypes were less commonly found than those in non-cancer patients (35/66 vs 127/168, P= 0.0001 for sla and 13/66 vs93/168, P<0.0001 for slc). In the middle region, the mlT strain in patients with gastric cancer was more than that of non-cancer patients(23/66 vs 33/168, P = 0.02).CONCLUSION: In Taiwan, H pylori with positive vacA sla,cagA and iceA1 strains are found in the majority of patients with gastric cancer or non-cancer patients. In patients with gastric cancer, the vacA s1a and slc subtypes are less and m1T is more than in patients with peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis.

Pre-treatment to Improve the Bake-hardening Response in the Naturally Aged Al-Mg-Si Alloy

This paper describes pre-treatment methods to improve the bake-hardening response of naturally aged AA6022 （Al-0.6Mg-1.0Si）, which is an alloy used in automotive body panels. These methods are used to accelerate the artificial aging process, which proceeds 30-day period of natural aging. The precipitation behavior of the sheets of this aluminum alloy was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and electrical conductivity measurements, and subsequently confirmed by microstructure observations by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. Tensile tests and microhardness measurements were performed to determine the mechanical properties of the samples. Under simulated paint-baking conditions （30 min at 170℃）, the microhardness and the yield strength （YS） of the pre-strained ＋ pre-aged samples were found to be I13 HV and 225 MPa, respectively. These values are considerably higher than those of pre-aged samples, and they did not decrease significantly during the initial stage of artificial aging.

Surf-zone hydrodynamics forced by oblique wave shoaling and breaking on beach slopes were *** results showed that in wave-basin experiments with incident angles in the range of 15°-30°,wave breaking was initiated at a breaker coefficient of around 0.67,which was significantly less than that predicted from empirical relations based on normally incident waves for a given beach slope and deep-water wave *** measurements also showed that subsequent saturated breaking occurred at a breaker coefficient of around 0.47 that was inde-pendent of beach slope in the range of 1∶10 to 1∶*** result is likely applicable to both oblique and normally incident *** is shown that the measured wave heights and longshore velocity profiles in wave-basin studies can be reasonably well predicted by theory with proper ad-justments to the process ***-match formulations were identified for quantifying bottom friction,eddy viscosity,and energy loss due to surface rollers.

Population inversion in fluorescing fragments of super-excited molecules inside an air filament

An original idea is reviewed. When a molecule is pumped into a super-excited state, one of its decay channels is neutral dissociation. One or more of the neutral fragments will fluoresce. Hence, if a lower state of such fluorescing fragments was populated through other channels but with a lower probability, population inversion of the fluorescing fragments would be naturally realized. This idea seems to be validated, so far, by comparing published work on three hydrocarbon molecules, CH4, C2H2, C2H4, and water vapor, H2 O. After super-excitation in a femtosecond laser filament in air mixed with these molecules, the fluorescence from the CH or OH fragments exhibits population inversion, i.e., amplified spontaneous emission was observed in the backscattering direction of the filament.

Approximate graphical method of solving Fermi level and majority carrier density of semiconductors with multiple donors and multiple acceptors

We present a generic approximate graphical method for determining the equilibrium Fermi level and majority carrier density of a semiconductor with multiple donors and multiple acceptors compensating each other. Simple and easy-to-follow procedures of the graphical method are *** graphically plotting two wrapping step functions facing each other,one for the positive hole-ionized donor and one for the negative electron-ionized acceptor,we have the crossing point that renders the Fermi level and majority carrier *** the graphical method,new equations are derived,such as the carrier compensation proportional to N;/N;,not the widely quoted N;-N;.Visual insight is offered to view not only the result of graphic determination of Fermi level and majority carrier density but also the dominant and critical pair of donors and acceptors in *** graphical method presented in this work will help to guide the design,adjustment,and improvement of the multiply doped *** of this approximate graphical method with previous work on compensation,and with some experimental results,is *** work in the field is proposed.

For semiconductors with localized intrinsic/impurity defects, intentionally doped or unintentionally incorporated, that have multiple transition energy levels among charge states, the general formulation of the local charge neutrality condition is given for the determination of the Fermi level and the majority carrier density. A graphical method is used to illustrate the solution of the problem. Relations among the transition energy levels of the multi-level defect are derived using the graphical method. Numerical examples are given for p-doping of the CdTe thin film used in solar panels and semi-insulating Si to illustrate the relevance and importance of the issues discussed in this work.
