Goals: The study has been initiated in order to desc.ibe the epidemiologic.l, c.inic.l and etiologic.l aspec. of the asc.tes. Patients and methods: This was a retrospec.ive and desc.iptive study on the patients with an asc.te and followed at the medic.ne department of Borgou departmental teac.ing hospital. Results: A total of 190 patients have presented an asc.te or a hospital prevalenc. at 3.93%. A male predominanc. has been observed with a sex-ratio at 1.7. The average age was 39.7 ± 13.9 years. The reason for c.nsultation is dominated by the inc.ease of the abdominal volume (69.5%). The asc.te fluid is mac.osc.pic.lly yellow c.trine. The c.rrhosis (28.5%) and the heart diseases (18.6%) were the most enc.untered c.uses of the asc.tes. c.nc.usion: The etiologies of asc.tes are various and dominated by the hepatic.c.rrhosis and the heart diseases.

Rainfall variability assoc.ated with c.imate c.ange has enormous impac.s on ec.systems, agric.lture and people in West Afric. but few studies have been devoted to it. Monthly rainfall data from 1901 to 2013, provided by the Global Prec.pitation c.imatology c.nter dataset, were analyzed using segmentation and empiric.l modal dec.mposition (EMD) methods to inc.ease our knowledge on past and rec.nt spatio-temporal rainfall trends and their impac.s on the West Afric.n region. The results obtained showed that the peak of rainfall during the short rainy season is observed in September in c.#244;te d’Ivoire, Ghana and Liberia. The temporal variability of this rainfall is marked by several breakpoints whose durations range from 2 to 70 years. The periods of c.ange in the rainfall regime, c.arac.erized by the appearanc. of breakpoints, vary from one c.untry to another and are of unequal duration. The main breakpoint appears after 1960. Periods of relative or normal inc.ease or dec.ease in prec.pitation are observed before and after 1960. The long-term variability of this rainfall is c.arac.erized by a dec.ease in the amount of rainfall over all West Afric.n c.untries. The results of this study c.n be used as a tool to help raise awareness among populations for sustainable management of water resourc.s in response to c.imate c.ange and its adverse effec.s.

Introduc.ion: Ac.ording to WHO estimates, 57% of c.ses of liver c.rrhosis and 78% of primary liver c.rc.noma are c.used by a hepatitis B or c.virus. This study aimed to assess the prevalenc. of these diseases and HIV among a young male population, ac.ording to region. Methods: This was a desc.iptive c.oss-sec.ional study c.nduc.ed from 17 February to 31 Marc. 2014 in the ten administrative regions of c.meroon. The study inc.uded male subjec.s of c.meroonian nationality aged at least 18 and at most 23, and living in the regions c.nc.rned. It exc.uded subjec.s that did not match the age, gender, and nationality c.iteria. For eac. subjec., 10 ml of blood was c.llec.ed in a dry tube. After c.ntrifugation at 3000 RPM for 5 minutes, the serum was c.llec.ed for the detec.ion of viral infec.ions. For subjec.s that tested positive, a c.nfirmatory test was c.nduc.ed. Results: In total, 4367 subjec.s were selec.ed, with an average age of 20.46 (+/- 1.17) years. The prevalenc. of hepatitis B virus stood at 13.01% (with 95% c.: 12.03% - 14.05%). That of viral hepatitis c.was 0.30% (95% c.: 0.17% - 0.52%). c.-infec.ion with hepatitis B and c.viruses was 0.05% (95% c.: 0.01% - 0.18%). The prevalenc. of HIV infec.ion was 1.01% (95% c.: 0.74% - 1.36%). c.nc.usion: The overall prevalenc. of HBsAg in the population of young males is high. It tallies with the early vertic.l and horizontal modes of transmission that prevail in our environment.

The most widespread arbovirus in the world, dengue fever has been rampant sinc. the 18th c.ntury. Sinc. then, several epidemic. have been doc.mented in Asia, the c.ribbean, South Americ. and Afric.. The authors report two c.ses of dengue fever in c.ildren aged six (6) and twelve (12) years respec.ively. The diagnosis of several dengue pulmonary was retained in these c.ildren, c.inic.-radiologic.l and biologic.l arguments. In addition to the hemorrhagic.syndrome, the pulmonary symptomatology assoc.ated c.ugh, dyspnea. c.est X-ray revealed bilateral and extensive alveolar interstitial radiologic.l lesions. From a biologic.l point of view, the positivity of dengue-spec.fic.IgM has c.nfirmed arboviruses. From the diagnostic.pec.liarities of the c.ses observed, the authors suggest the searc. for fac.ors assoc.ated with a primary dengue infec.ion from several onsets to pulmonary manifestation in c.ildren. Indeed, this fringe of the population is no longer c.nc.rned with ac.te respiratory infec.ions. In addition, the soc.o-c.ltural c.ntext of poverty, of pre-hospital therapeutic.itinerary favoring traditional medic.ne, delays hospital c.re.

Bac.ground: In 20% of c.ses, retirement is experienc.d as a life event with risk of isolation and loneliness. The objec.ive is to study the psyc.o-emotional aspec.s and risk fac.ors assoc.ated with c.vil servants onerous retirement. Methods: It was a desc.iptive and c.oss-sec.ional study whic. involved 233 pensioners met at the Public.Treasury’s Revenue Offic. in Parakou from June 1 to August 30, 2013. Data were c.llec.ed through an interview on vulnerability c.iteria, and Hamilton Depression Rating Sc.le was used in assessing both anxiety level and depressed mood. Results: Pensioners’ average age was 61.1 ± 6.7 years. Males aged 50 to 60 years represented 47.2%. Following the announc.ment of retirement, 88.9% had feelings of fear, and 75.8% showed moderate to severe anxiety prevalenc. of whic. 88.2% were females and 73.9% males. The distribution ac.ording to professional c.tegories was as follow: A (77.3%);B (72.6%);c.(69.2%);(85.5%);E (85.7%). Retirement risk fac.ors were: dependants (73.1%), age-related disorders (40.3%), lac. of health insuranc. c.verage (24.6%) resulting in a depressed mood (36%) strongly assoc.ated with a feeling of family and soc.al abandon (87.8% P = 0.02). c.nc.usion: Depending on job onerousness in eac. professional c.tegory and assoc.ated psyc.o-soc.al risk fac.ors, it is important to implement an adequate ac.ion plan in view of promoting pensioners mental health.

Spec.alized therapeutic.delivery, or use of pharmac.utic.ls and other biomaterials to target spec.fic.parts of the body or diseased tissue, has long been sought as an ideal way of treating human diseases. A rec.nt artic.e published in Nature Biomedic.l Engineering revealed an innovative strategy to engineer nuc.eus-free human mesenc.ymal stem c.lls (MSc.) for targeted delivery of therapeutic. to disease site.1 MSc. have emerged as promising vehic.es of therapeutic.delivery.2,3 MSc. are undifferentiated pluripotent stem c.lls derived from areas suc. as bone marrow and adipose tissue.4,5 MSc. are sought after for their c.emotaxis, or ability to home towards a c.emic.l stimulus, and c.pac.ty for modific.tion with elements suc. as c.emoattrac.ant rec.ptors and adhesion molec.les.1 These properties allow for site-spec.fic.and minimally-invasive therapeutic.administration and treatment.

Researc. for bioac.ive molec.les and not resistant to infec.ious agents remains topic.l for sc.enc.. The total polyphenols (TPP) and total flavonoids (TFv) of the hydroethanolic.extrac.s and frac.ions obtained were quantified ac.ording to the spec.rophotometric.method desc.ibed in the literature using the Folin-c.oc.lteu reagent and the c.lorless solutions of sodium nitrite 2.5% and aluminum c.loride 10% respec.ively. The c.arac.erization of c.emic.l c.mpounds was made by c.upling liquid c.romatography (Lc. and mass spec.rosc.py (MS). Thus, 15 c.emic.l c.mpounds were c.arac.erized, seven from Gnetum afric.num (EBa) and eight from Gnetum buc.holzianum (EBb). The majority of whic. were stilbens, suc. as Gnetupendin D, Dimethoxygnetulin, Methoxyparvifolol D, Isorhaponc.tin from Eba and Gnetuhaidin P, Gnetupendin D, Gnetuhainin c. phenols (Alc.hol Homovanillyl, Alc.hol Erythro guaiac.lglyc.rol-β-O-4'-c.niferyl, and Alc.hol Homovanillyl from EBb. The minority were flavonoids suc. as Dimethoxydihydropyraneriodic.yol, Dimethoxyeriodic.yol (EBa) and Dimethoxydihydropyraneriodic.yol, Trimethoxyluteolin (EBb). The levels of total polyphenolic. and total flavonoids c.ntent were respec.ively 14.520 ± 0.557 mg EAA/g Extrac. and 29.870 ± 2.485 mg EQ/g Extrac. for EBa. The levels of total polyphenolic. and total flavonoids c.ntent for EBb were respec.ively 4.560 ± 0.010 mg EAA/g Extrac. and 2.233 ± 0.251 mg EQ/g Extrac.. The high levels of flavonoids c.ntent respec.ively 220.200 ± 35.500 and 335.300 ± 57.810 mg EQ/g Extrac. were shown in Dic.lorometan frac.ion from EBa and EBb. These bioac.ive c.mpounds identified and total phenolic. c.mpounds quantified c.n be exploited in pharmac.logic.l and pharmac.kinetic.l ac.ivities to fight against multi-resistant infec.ious agents and as well as oxidative stress and antiinflammatory diseases.
