Brain-derived neurotrophic factor（BDNF） plays an important role in neurodevelopment,synaptic plasticity,learning and memory,and in preventing *** decades of investigations into downstream signaling cascades and changes in cellular processes,the mechanisms of how BDNF reshapes circuits in vivo remain *** informational gap partly arises from the fact that the bulk of studies into the molecular actions of BDNF have been performed in dissociated neuronal cultures,while the majority of studies on synaptic plasticity,learning and memory were performed in acute brain slices or in vivo.A recent study by Bowling-Bhattacharya et al.,measured the proteomic changes in acute adult hippocampal slices following treatment and reported changes in proteins of neuronal and non-neuronal origin that may in concert modulate synaptic release and secretion in the *** this paper,we place these findings into the context of existing literature and discuss how they impact our understanding of how BDNF can reshape the brain.

We conduct an eye tracking study to investigate perception text-embellished narrative visualizations under different task *** stimuli are data visualizations embellished with text-based elements:annotations,captions,labels,and descriptive *** consider three common viewing tasks that occur when these types of graphics are viewed:(1)simple observation,(2)active search to answer a query,and(3)information memorization for later *** overarching goal is to understand,at a perceptual level,if and how task affects how these visualizations are interacted *** analyzing collected gaze data and conducting advanced semantic scanpath analysis,we find,at a high level,diverse patterns of gaze behavior:simple observation and information memorization lead to similar optical viewing strategies,while active search significantly diverges,both in regards to which areas of the visualization are focused upon and how often embellishments are interacted *** discuss study outcomes in the context of embellishing visualizations with text for various usage scenarios.

Alzheimer＇s disease（AD）, a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disorder, has no cure to date. One of the causes of AD is the accumulation of amyloid-beta 42（Aβ42） plaques, which result in the onset of neurodegeneration. It is not known how these plaques trigger the onset of neurodegeneration. There are several animal models developed to（i） study etiology of disease,（ii） look for genetic modifiers, and（iii） identify chemical inhibitors that can block neurodegeneration and help to find cure for this disease. An insect model of Drosophila melanogaster has also provided new insights into the disease. Here we will discuss the utility of the Drosophila eye model to study Alzheimer＇s disease.

Oral cancers suffer from poor disease free survival rates due to delayed ***,rapid,objective approaches as adjuncts to visual inspection can help in better management of oral *** spectrosoopy(RS)has shown potential in identification of oral premalignant and malignant conditions and also in the detection of early cancer changes like cancer field ffects(CFE)at buccal mucosa *** differences between different oral subsites have also been reported using *** this study,anatomical differences between subsites and their possible infuence on healthy vs pathological classification were evaluated on 85 oral cancer and 72 healthy *** were acquired from buccal mucosa,lip and tongue in healthy,contralateral(internal healthy control),premalignant and cancer conditions using fiber optic Raman *** spectra indicate predominance of lipids in healthy buccal mucosa,contribution of both lipids and proteins in lip while major dominance of protein in tongue *** healthy to tumor,changes in protein secondary structure,DNA and heme related features were *** component linear discriminant analysis(PC-LDA)followed by leave one out CrOoss-validation(LOOCV)was used for data *** gs indicate buccal mucosa and tongue are distinct entities,while lip misclassifies with both these ***,the diagnostic algorithm for individual subsites gave improved classification efficiencies with respect to the pooled subsites ***,as the pooled subsites model yielded 98%specifcity and 100%sensitivity,this model may be more useful for preliminary screening ***-scale validation studies are a pre requisite before envisaging future clinical applications.

Ovarian cancer is the second most fatal gynecological cancer. For the last decade or so significant use of non-circulating and circulating biomarkers has been highlighted. However, the study of such biomarkers at nanovesicle technology such as exosomes, proteomic and genomics studies could further contribute to better identification of anomalous protein and networks which could act as potential targets for biomarker and immunotherapy development. This review provides an overview of the circulating and non-circulating biomarkers with the aim of addressing the current challenges and potential biomarkers that could lead to early ovarian cancer diagnosis and better management. By means of this review we also lay a hypothesis that characterization of exosomal protein, nucleic acid content from body fluids (serum, plasma, urine, etc.) can decode the secret of disease and potentially improve diagnostic sensitivity which could further lead to more effective screening and early detection of the disease.

A Chance-Constrained Wind Range Quantification Approach to Robust SCUC by Determining Dynamic Uncertainty Intervals

With increasing penetration of wind energy,the variability and uncertainty of wind resources have become important factors for power systems *** particular,an effective method is required for identifying the stochastic range of wind power output,in order to better guide the operational security of power *** paper proposes a metric to determine accurate wind power output ranges so that the probability of actual wind power outputs being out of the range would be less than a small pre-defined value.A mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)based chance-constrained optimization model is proposed for efficiently determining optimal wind power output ranges,which are quantified via maximum and the minimum wind generation levels with respect to a certain time *** derived wind power range is then used to construct dynamic uncertainty intervals for the robust securityconstrained unit commitment(SCUC)model.A comparison with the deterministic SCUC model and the traditional robust SCUC model with presumed static uncertainty interval demonstrates that the proposed approach can offer more accurate wind power variabilities(i.e.,different variability degrees with respect to different wind power output levels at different time periods).The proposed approach is also shown to offer more effective and robust SCUC solutions,guaranteeing operational security and economics of power *** case studies on a 6-bus system and the modified IEEE 118-bus system with realworld wind power data illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Antifertility potential of leaves and seeds of Delonix regia in female rats

Objective:To evaluate the antifertility activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Delonix regia(*** Hook.)*** and seeds which are traditionally being used by Yanadi tribe to treat ***:Three experimental animal models,including anti-implantation,early abortifacient,and estrogenic activity in female rats,were used for evaluation of the antifertility activity of both extracts at two dose levels(250 and 500 mg/kg,orally).There were five groups in the anti-implantation and early abortifacient activity while six groups in estrogenic activity including the *** number of implants,resorptions,vaginal cornification,body weight,uterus weight,and biochemical parameters were ***:At doses 250 and 500 mg/kg,the leaf extract was found to have strong anti-implantation *** extract administered at the same doses also caused a significant rise in the number of resorptions,showing early abortifacient activity,increased uterine weight,and altered numerous biochemical ***,the seed extract only displayed slight anti-implantation activity at both ***:Based on these preliminary findings,we can conclude that the leaf extract outperformed the seed extract in terms of antifertility activity,exhibiting potent estrogenic,anti-implantation and early abortifacient activities in a dose-dependent *** findings are consistent with the literature study and corroborate to the antifertility activity of the plant.
