infectious diseases severely threaten public health and global *** addition to transmission through the air,pathogenic microorganisms have also been detected in environmental liquid samples,such as sewage *** biochemical detection methodologies are time-consuming and cost-ineffective,and their detection limits hinder early *** the present study,ultrafine plasmonic fiber probes with a diameter of 125μm are fabricated for clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein(CRISPR/Cas)-12a-mediated sensing of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Single-stranded DNA exposed on the fiber surface is trans-cleaved by the Cas12a enzyme to release gold nanoparticles that are immobilized onto the fiber surface,causing a sharp reduction in the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)*** proposed fiber probe is virus-specific with the limit of detection of~2,300 copies/ml,and genomic copy numbers can be reflected as shifts in wavelengths.A total of 21 sewage water samples have been examined,and the data obtained are consistent with those of quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR).In addition,the Omicron variant and its mutation sites have been fast detected using S gene-specific *** study provides an accurate and convenient approach for the real-time surveillance of microbial contamination in sewage water.

BACKGROUND Erythropoietic protoporphyria(EPP)is a rare genetic disorder stemming from ferrochelatase gene mutations,which leads to abnormal accumulation of protoporphyrin IX primarily in erythrocytes,skin,bone marrow and *** porphyria-related severe liver damage is rare,its consequences can be severe with limited treatment *** SUMMARY This case study highlights a successful intervention for a 35-year-old male with EPP-related liver impairment,employing a combination of red blood cell(RBC)exchange and therapeutic plasma exchange(TPE).The patient experienced significant symptom relief and a decrease in bilirubin levels following multiple PE sessions and an RBC *** The findings suggest that this combined approach holds promise for managing severe hepatic impairment in EPP.

As a high-risk trauma,deep burns are always hindered in their repair process by decreased tissue regeneration capacity and persistent *** this study,we developed a simultaneous strategy for deep burn wounds treatment using functional nanovesicles with antibacterial and tissue remodeling properties,delivered via a click-chemistry *** aggregation-induced emission photosensitizer of 4-(2-(5-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)thiophen-2-yl)vinyl)-1-(2-hydroxyethyl)pyridin-1-ium bromide(THB)with excellent photodynamic properties was first prepared,and then combined with readily accessible adipose stem cells-derived nanovesicles to generate the THB functionalized nanovesicles(THB@ANVs).The THB@ANVs showed strong antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria(up to 100%killing rate),and also beneficial effects on tissue remodeling,including promoting cell migration,cell proliferation,and regulating *** addition,we prepared a click-hydrogel of carboxymethyl chitosan for effective delivery of THB@ANVs on *** hydrogel could be injected to conform to the wound morphology while responding to the acidic *** vivo evaluations of wound healing revealed that the THB@ANVs hydrogel dressing efficiently accelerated the healing of second-degree burn wounds by reducing bacterial growth,regulating inflammation,promoting early angiogenesis,and collagen *** study provides a promising candidate of wound dressing with diverse functions for deep burn wound repair.

Impact of short-term ambient air pollution exposure on the risk of severe COVID-19

Ecological studies suggested a link between air pollution and severe COVID-19 outcomes,while studies accounting for individual-level characteristics are *** the present study,we aimed to investigate the impact of short-term ambient air pollution exposure on disease severity among a cohort of 569 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in Zhejiang province,China,from January 17 to March 3,2020,and elucidate the possible biological processes involved using *** with mild cases,severe cases had higher proportion of medical conditions as well as unfavorable results in most of the laboratory tests,and manifested higher air pollution exposure *** exposure to air pollutants was associated with increased risk of severe COVID-19 with odds ratio(OR)of 1.89(95%confidence interval(CI):1.01,3.53),2.35(95%CI:1.20,4.61),2.87(95%CI:1.68,4.91),and 2.01(95%CI:1.10,3.69)for PM_(2.5),PM_(10),NO_(2)and CO,*** for NO_(2)remained significant in two-pollutant models after adjusting for other *** analysis showed 884 differentially expressed genes which mainly were enriched in virus clearance related biological processes between patients with high and low NO_(2)exposure levels,indicating that compromised immune response might be a potential underlying mechanistic *** findings highlight the impact of shortterm air pollution exposure,particularly for NO_(2),on COVID-19 severity,and emphasize the significance in mitigating the COVID-19 burden of commitments to improve air quality.
