Objective:To evaluate the success rate of tuberculosis intervention programme at a specialist hospital in(?)badan,Nigeria through a retrospective study as well as carry out physicochemical evaluation of anti-tuberculous agents as a way of eliminating drug-related ***:The retrospective study involved the use of quarterly tuberculosis central register at the Government Chest Hospital,(?)badan between 1st quarter(2003)to 4th quarter(2009).Relevant data were extracted from these register with the aid of data collection *** basic physicochemical analyses of the drugs given to the patients were also carried out using the International Pharmacopoeia ***:All the drugs examined for their physicochemical properties passed the International Pharmacopeia recommended tests.A total number of 1 260 patients enrolled at the hospital were assessed through case *** comprises of 59.4%males of which69.23%new cases were also *** was a significant(P0.05).Failure rates in all categories were higher in males than females(P>0.05).Conclusions:More enlightenment and counseling is still required to meet up with the target for TB control.

Borneol,a monoterpenoid alcohol,is used widely,particularly in combined formulas for preventing and curing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in traditional Chinese *** order to understand the blood and brain pharmacokinetics after intravenous,intranasal,or oral administration and to investigate the superiority and feasibility of intranasal administration,a simple gas chromatographic (GC) method with flame ionization detection (FID) was developed for the quantification of *** samples and brain were collected from mice at 1,3,5,10,20,30,60,90,and 120 min after intravenous,intranasal,or oral administration of borneol at a dosage of 30.0 mg/*** preparations were carried out by liquid-liquid extraction with an internal standard solution of *** pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by the software of *** calibration curves were linear in the range of 0.11-84.24 μg/ml and 0.16-63.18 μg/g for borneol in plasma and brain,*** methodological and extraction recoveries were both in the range of 85%-115%.The intra-day and inter-day variabilities for plasma and brain samples were ≤5.00% relative standard deviation (RSD).The absolute bioavailabilities F of intranasal and oral administrations were 90.68% and 42.99%.The relative brain targeted coefficients Re of intranasal and oral administrations were 68.37% and 38.40%.The GC-FID method developed could be applied to determination and pharmacokinetic *** borneol from injection was distributed and metabolized fast without absorption *** borneol from oral administration was distributed more slowly and had the lowest absolute *** administration of borneol was quickly absorbed into the blood and brain,was easy to use and had a greater safety than infection,which makes it worthy of further development as an administration route for encephalopathy treatment.

Both geniposide （Ge） and natural borneol （NB） are bioactive substances derived from traditional Chinese herbs. The effect of NB on the pharmacokinetics of Ge in rat via intranasal administration was investigated. The concentrations of Ge in plasma were determined by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） after intranasal administration of Ge （4 mg/kg） alone and combined with different doses （0.08, 0.8, and 8 mg/kg） of NB. The intravenous administration was given as a reference （4 mg/kg of Ge and 8 mg/kg of NB）. Compared with the intravenous administration, the absolute bioavailability of Ge was 76.14% through intranasal administration combined with NB. Compared with the intranasal administration of Ge alone, Ge could be absorbed rapidly in the nasal cavity combined with NB; the peak time of Ge in the plasma became shorter （3-5 min vs. 40 min）; the peak concentration became higher （1.32-4.25 IJg/ml vs. 0.67 ug/ml）; and, the relative bioavailability of Ge combined with NB was 90.3%-237.8%. The enhancing effect was attenuated as the dose of NB decreased. The results indicated that NB can accelerate the absorption of Ge dose-dependently in the nasal cavity.

The aim is to evaluate the effect of ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol on anti-BSA antibody production triggered by bovine albumin encapsulated in non-ionic surfactant vesicle,*** phase evaporation method was adopted to entrap the antigen in colloidal carrier composed of Span 80 and Span 85 followed by simultaneous characterization for particle size,entrapment efficiency and in vitro *** protein content was determined by Bradford method using UV Visible Spectrophotometer at 595 *** immune response was measured in terms of systemic IgG antibody titre by ELISA *** data indicated that 7∶3 molar ratio of Span 80 and cholesterol based niosomal formulation possessed maximum(39.8±2.9)% of soluble *** markedly(P0.05).It is necessary to explore the effect of a vaccine antigen when a candidate is medicated with a therapeutic agent,which might help in programming a new drug management and vaccination programme.

In this paper,we present a novel,reliable and sensitive electrochemical sensor for the determination of paracetamol based on hollow carbon Co3O4 nanosheets/reduced graphene oxide composite(Co3O4/r-GO).The Co3O4/r-GO was prepared via a rapid one-step microwave solvothermal *** series of techniques that included scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and Raman were carried out to characterize the morphology and structure of as-prepared *** importantly,the developed electrochemical sensor exhibited a wide linear range of 0.05 to 900.0μM and a low detection limit of 14.0 nM(S/N=3)by using differential pulse ***,the selectivity,repeatability,stability and practical applicability were further studied with satisfactory results.

Objective:To study the possible effects of Cerithidea obtusa extract as antidiabetic and to screen the secondary metabolites ***:Antidiabetic activity of Cerithidea obtusa extract was measured in vitro usingα-glucosidase inhibition ***,secondary metabolites screening was measured ***:The methanol extract had antidiabetic activity(IC_(50)=36.40 mg/mL).However,the control drug acarbose had significantly higher antidiabetic activity(IC_(50)=0.32 mg/mL).Secondary metabolites screening showed the presence of alkaloids,flavonoids,triterpenoids and ***:The methanol extract had antidiabetic activity and the presence of alkaloids,flavonoids and triterpenoids might contribute to the activity.

Objective:To investigate the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity of fourteen different edible vegetables methanolic extract from ***:The antibacterial activity was evaluated using disc diffusion assay method against 12 bacteria(both gram positive and gram negative).The plant extracts were also screened for cytotoxic activity using the brine shrimp lethality bioassay method and the lethal concentrations(LC_(50))were determined at confidence intervals by analyzing the data on a computer loaded with"Finney programme??Results:All the vegetable extracts showed low to elevated levels of antibacterial activity against most of the tested strains(zone of inhibition=5-28 mm).The most active extract against all bacterial strains was from Xanthium indicum which showed remarkable antibacterial activity having the diameter of growth inhibition zone ranging from 12 to 28 mm followed by Alternanthera sessilis(zone of inhibition=6-21 mm).All extracts exhibited considerable general toxicity towards brine *** LC_(50)value of the tested extracts was within the range of 8.447 to 60.323μg/mL with respect to the positive control(vincristine sulphate)which was 0.91μg/*** all studied extracts,Xanthium indicum displayed the highest cytotoxic effect with LC_(50)value of 8.447μg/***:The results of the present investigation suggest that most of the studied plants are potentially good source of antibacterial and anticancer agents.
