Despite continuous studies on the cryptic diversity of the Diploderma flaviceps complex in Southwest China for the pastdecade, little attention has been given to other widespreadcongeners in China. Combining both morphological and phylogenetic data, we describe a new species of Diplodermafrom populations identified previously as D. dymondi in thelower Yalong River Basin in southern Sichuan Province. Thenew species is morphologically most similar to D. dymondiand D. varcoae, but it can be differentiated by a considerablegenetic divergence and a suite of morphological characters,including having taller nuchal crest scales, smaller tympana,and a distinct oral coloration. Additionally, we discuss otherputative species complexes within the genus Diploderma inChina.

A good understanding of the thermophysical properties of hydrocarbon fuels at supercritical pressure is important to research on experiment and numerical simulation of fuel supercritical *** measurements are difficult to conduct directly because of the extremely high pressure and high *** this study,back propagation(BP)neural network,BP optimized by mind evolution algorithm(MEA-BP)and BP neural network optimized by genetic algorithm(GA-BP)are established to determine the nonlinear temperature-dependent thermophysical properties of density,viscosity,and isobaric specific heat(C_(2))of hydrocarbon fuels at supercritical ***,approximate formulas for these properties prediction are primarily proposed using polynomial *** this paper,models that can predict three types of physical properties of three kinds of hydrocarbon fuels and their mixtures in a wide temperature range under supercritical pressure are *** the prediction of density and C_(2),BP neural network has a good prediction *** results show that the MAPE is lower than 2%in the prediction of density and C_(2),but the MAPE of viscosity prediction is slightly higher than 5%using ***,MEA and GA are used to optimize the prediction of *** optimization effect and computation of the MEA is better than that of GA because MEA does not have the local optimization and prematurity *** present work offers an efficient tool to predict the thermophysical properties of hydrocarbon fuels over a wide range of temperatures under supercritical pressure which can be easily extended to other fuels of *** will be beneficial to the experiment and numerical simulation studies of supercritical sprays.

Species delimitation is essential to informing conservation policy and understanding ecological and evolutionary *** of our recent gains in knowledge on animal diversity rely on morphological characteristics and mitochondrial(mt)DNA *** results based on both have led to an unprecedented acceleration in the identification of new species and enriched the field of ***,discordances are also found commonly between morphological and mtDNA *** confounds species delimitation,especially when gene flow or mt genome introgression has ***,we illustrate how mt genome introgression among species of the Odorrana grahami complex confounds species delimitation using the combined evidence of morphological characters,mt variation,and thousands of nuclear single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)from genotyping-by-sequencing(GBS).Fifty-eight samples across the distribution of the *** complex were *** mtDNA matrilineal genealogy indicated 2 clades,with *** and Odorrana junlianensis clustered *** contrast,all nuclear evidence including gene trees,species trees,and genetic structure analyses based on GBS data support 3 species with distinct genetic *** 3 distinct genetic clusters also correspond to distinct morphological *** affirm the distinct taxonomic entities of both *** and ***,as well as a third clade distinct from *** species the third clade belongs to remains unclear and will require further *** nuclear genomic loci contradict the COI evidence,with indications of rampant historical mt genome introgression among the species of the *** *** discordant signals previously confused species delimitation efforts in this *** on these findings,we recommend the integration of independent data,especially nuclear genomic evidence,in species delimitation so as to be robust against the pitfalls of mt introgression.

What motivates some members of a social group to voluntarily incur costs in order to provide for the common good? This question lies at the heart of theoretical and empirical studies of cooperative behavior. This is also the question that underlies the classic volunteer's dilemma model, which has been previously explored in scenarios where group members are related or interact asym- metrically. Here we present a model that combines asymmetry and relatedness, showing that the probability of volunteerism in such systems depends closely on both the degree of asymmetry and level of relatedness between interacting individuals. As has been shown in previous volunteer's dilemma models, the payoff ratio and overall group size also influence the probability of volunteerism. The probability of volunteerism decreases with increasing group size or decreasing cost-to-benefit ratio of the coplayers; in the presence of asymmetrical interactions, subordinate players were more likely to offer public goods than the dominant player. More asymmetrical interactions decrease the probability of volunteerism of the dominant player; overall volunteerism increases with increasing relatedness.

Many paleognaths(ratites and tinamous) have a pair of homomorphic ZW sex chromosomes in contrast to the highly differentiated sex chromosomes of most other birds. To understand the evolutionary causes for the different tempos of sex chromosome evolution, we produced female genomes of 12 paleognathous species and reconstructed the phylogeny and the evolutionary history of paleognathous sex *** uncovered that Palaeognathae sex chromosomes had undergone stepwise recombination suppression and formed a pattern of “evolutionary strata”. Nine of the 15 studied species’ sex chromosomes have maintained homologous recombination in their long pseudoautosomal regions extending more than half of the entire chromosome length. We found that in the older strata, the W chromosome suffered more serious functional gene loss. Their homologous Z-linked regions, compared with other genomic regions, have produced an excess of species-specific autosomal duplicated genes that evolved female-specific expression, in contrast to their broadly expressed progenitors. We speculate such “defeminization” of Z chromosome with underrepresentation of female-biased genes and slow divergence of sex chromosomes of paleognaths might be related to their distinctive mode of sexual selection targeting females rather than males, which evolved in their common ancestors.

Dear editor,A scheme for treating COVID-19 was published in NSR in April [1] based on blocking the translation of very large viral proteins. Since then, additional supporting data have greatly strengthened the proposal. The drug, HHT (homoharringtonine, or omacetaxine), is readily available and inexpensive as it has been approved since 2012 for treating leukemia.

Background: Ruminal microbes are vital to the conversion of lignocellulose-rich plant materials into nutrients for *** protozoa play a key role in linking ruminal microbial networks,the contribution of protozoa to rumen fermentation remains controversial; therefore,this meta-analysis was conducted to quantitatively summarize the temporal dynamics of methanogenesis,ruminal volatile fatty acid(VFA) profiles and dietary fiber digestibility in ruminants following the elimination of protozoa(also termed defaunation).A total of 49 studies from 22 publications were ***: The results revealed that defaunation reduced methane production and shifted ruminal VFA profiles to consist of more propionate and less acetate and butyrate,but with a reduced total VFA concentration and decreased dietary fiber ***,these effects were diminished linearly,at different rates,with time during the first few weeks after defaunation,and eventually reached relative *** acetate to propionate ratio and methane production were increased at 7 and 11 wk after defaunation,***: Elimination of protozoa initially shifted the rumen fermentation toward the production of more propionate and less methane,but eventually toward the production of less propionate and more methane over time.
