Zhuangyao Jianshen pill(壮腰健肾丸) ameliorates testosterone-induced benign postatic hyperplasia in rats

OBJECTIVE:To determine the therapeutic effects of the Zhuangyao Jianshen pill(壮腰健肾丸,ZYJSP)against benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)and investigate the underlying ***:Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups:Control group,BPH model group,finasteride-treated group,ZYJSP low,medium and high dose *** for the control group,40 rats were castrated and injected with testosterone propionate(TP)for 28 consecutive day to induce ***,the corresponding drugs were administered by *** prostate wet weight,prostate index(PI),and the histopathological changes in the prostate were measured as the basis for examining the efficacy of ZYJSP against *** of the serum sex hormones,oxidative stress markers,inflammatory markers,renal function markers,growth factors,and Cyclin D1 expression in prostate were measured to characterize the therapeutic mechanism of ZYJSP against ***:ZYJSP administration significantly reduced prostate wet weight and PI and ameliorated histological changes of the prostate in TP-treated castrated *** markedly increased the levels of creatinine,blood urea nitrogen and growth factors in the serum as well as the expression of the Cyclin D1 in the *** of these markers were significantly decreased by *** significantly restored the dysregulation of testosterone,estradiol,and dihydrotestosterone caused by ***,ZYJSP relieved TP-induced prostate injury and exhibited both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity by decreasing interleukin-6,interleukin-8,and malondialdehyde levels and increasing the activity of superoxide dismutase in the ***:These findings indicate that ZYJSP can effectively ameliorate BPH induced by TP in castrated rats,and the underlying mechanism might be related to regulating sex hormone balance,reducing oxidative stress,and inhibiting the inflammatory response.

Optimization of Extraction Process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma by Orthogonal Experiment

[Objectives]To optimize the water extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma.[Methods]The entropy weight method was used to determine the weight of epicatechin extraction rate and dry extract rate and calculate the comprehensive *** water extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma was optimized by orthogonal design with the comprehensive score as the indicator and the amount of water,extraction time and extraction times as the factors.[Results]The optimum extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma was as follows:adding 10 times of water,extracting 3 times,and extracting for 60 min each time.[Conclusions]The optimized extraction process is stable and feasible,and can be used for the extraction of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma.

STUDY ON THE FORECAST OF PINE-CONE WEEVIL

Pine-cone weevil (Pissodes validirostris Gyll.) is one of the most important pests of Scots pine (Pinus syvestris var. mongolica). The quality and quantity of cone were damaged seriously by this pest. In order to provide a foundation for the control of this pest, the prediction of occurrence date of pine-cone weevil was studied with the methods of time of undergo, the effective accumulative temperture and the phenology forecast. The occurrence quantity was studied on the basis of the rules of the population dynamic and the environmental influences on this pest.

Rapid quantification of multi-components in alcohol precipitation liquid of Codonopsis Radix using near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS)

A near infrared spectroscopy（NIRS） approach was established for quality control of the alcohol precipitation liquid in the manufacture of Codonopsis Radix. By applying NIRS with multivariate analysis, it was possible to build variation into the calibration sample set, and the Plackett-Burman design, Box-Behnken design, and a concentrating-diluting method were used to obtain the sample set covered with sufficient fluctuation of process parameters and extended concentration information. NIR data were calibrated to predict the four quality indicators using partial least squares regression（PLSR）. In the four calibration models, the root mean squares errors of prediction（RMSEPs） were 1.22 μg/ml, 10.5 μg/ml, 1.43 μg/ml, and 0.433% for lobetyolin, total flavonoids, pigments, and total solid contents, respectively. The results indicated that multi-components quantification of the alcohol precipitation liquid of Codonopsis Radix could be achieved with an NIRS-based method, which offers a useful tool for real-time release testing（RTRT） of intermediates in the manufacture of Codonopsis Radix.

Synthesis and in vitro cytotoxicity of novel 1,4-disubstituted phthalazines

Eight novel 1,4-disubstituted phthalazines （7-14） were designed and synthesized. The structures of all the synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR,1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS and elemental analysis. Their in vitro cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines （Bel-7402 and HT- 1080） were evaluated by standard MTT assay. Accumulation of biomass and four triterpenoids in two-stage cultured Poria cocos mycelia and diuretic activity in rats

Poria cocos(Schw.) Wolf, an important medicinal and food fungus, is well known in East Asia. Due to growing market demand, long cultivation period, and consumption of pine trunk during cultivation, developing alternative methods for producing P. cocos and/or its active components is of interest. In the present study, the effects of different culture methods on biomass and accumulation of four triterpenoids were investigated. The ethanol extract of fermented mycelium(EFM) was orally administered to rats. Urine output and concentrations of electrolytes(Na^+, K^+, and Cl^-) were measured. Our results showed that mycelia grew better under continuous shaking culture condition(7.5 g DW·L^(-1)), and higher triterpenoid levels were accumulated in two-stage culture(112 mg·L-1, 2.03%). The optimal starting time of static culture for triterpenoid yield was 4^(th) d after shaking culture. Single administration of middle and high dose of EFM significantly increased urine output, Na^+ and Cl^- excretion, and Na^+/K^+ ratio. These results suggested that ethanol extract of cultured mycelia showed significant diuretic activity in rats and two-stage culture of P. cocos could be an alternative way to produce mycelia and triterpenoids.

Gastroptosis refers to prolapse of the stomach to an abnormal position manifested clinically by distending pain below the xiphoid process, hypochondriac fullness, chest stuffiness, abdominal distention and straining sensation, which is mainly caused by reduced tensity, lack of fat of the abdominal wall, relaxed muscles and decreased abdominal pressure. The authors have treated 93 cases of gastroptosis by applying acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal medicine and achieved quite satisfactory therapeutic results reported as follows.

Two new saponins 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl (1 → 2)-β-d-mannopyranosyl sarsasapogenin, named timosaponin A IV(1) and (5β, 25S)-26-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-furost-20(22)-en-3,26-diol-3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl (1 → 4) glucopyranosyl (1 → 2)-β-d-galacopyranoside, named timosaponin B IV(2), were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and preparative HPLC from Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bge. Their structures were elucidated by chemical characters and spectroscopic analysis.
