Objective To sequence the gene encoding glutamate rich protein (GLURP) andidentify the genotypes of geographically different Plasmodium falciparum (P. f ) isolatesfrom China. Methods The gene of R2 repeat region of GLURP was amplified by nestedpolymerase chain reaction and cloned into T-vector. The nucleotide sequence of GLURPgene was determined by automatic sequencer (Dideoxy termination method) and analyzed byDNA Star software. Results At least 7 different GLURP genotypes ranging from 600 bpto 1 500 bp were found in Yunnan and Hainan provinces. R2 region of GLURP gene consistedof several repeat units. Each repeat unit was composed of 19-20 residues which were shownto be highly conserved. GLURP gene was also size polymorphic due to differences in thenumber of repeat units, whereas the repeat sequence was conserved. Sequence analysisshowed that DNA sequences and deduced amino acid sequences were highly homologousamong the geographically dispersed isolates or various isolates from the same geographicalregion. No obvious differences were found in the GLURP gene sequences amonggeographically different isolates. Conclusion GLURP gene is highly structure conservedand size polymorphic, and so is useful in searching for malaria vaccine candidate antigen anddeveloping a genotyping method for malaria research.

Background: Superficial candidiasis is a very frequent opportunistic disease caused by yeasts of the genus Candida. Among Candida types, some, such as Candida auris, have developed resistance to several antifungal agents. The objective of this study was to determine the hospital frequency of superficial candidiasis diagnosed at the CHU Fann and to investigate the presence of C. auris among the identified Candida strains. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February to June 2019. It involved all patients received at the parasitology-Mycology laboratory of the CHU of Fann for suspected superficial candidiasis. Nails, skin, and vaginal specimens were subjected to direct examination and culture to identify yeasts of the genus Candida. The Candida strains were then tested by molecular biology targeting the specific C. auris ITS2 region. Results: A total of 1196 patients were examined. One thousand two hundred and five specimens (1205) were collected, including 1042 vaginal specimens, 92 nail specimens, and 71 skin specimens. Superficial candidiasis was diagnosed in 408 patients (37%). Women (34.52%) and patients under 30 years of age (39.60%) were the most affected. Yeasts of the genus Candida were found in 411 specimens (349 vaginal swabs, 36 nail fragments, and 26 skin flakes) by routine mycological techniques. The Candida albicans complex (C. albicans, C. dubliniensis, and C. africana) represented 75.91% of the Candida strains isolated. Molecular biology did not identify C. auris. Conclusion: Superficial candidiasis remains very common in hospitals in Senegal. Candida auris was not found in our study. Due to its rapid spread, surveillance is necessary to prevent epidemics in our hospitals.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of Giardia infection among rural communities among rural communities in ***: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 605 stool samples were collected and screened for the presence of Giardia duodenalis(***) cysts and/or trophozoites by using three different diagnostic methods: direct smear, formalin-ether sedimentation,and trichrome staining.A pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect information on the demographic, socioeconomic, behavioural and environmental characteristics of the ***: Overall, 28.1%(170/605) of the participants were infected by *** prevalence was significantly higher among male participants compared to female(P = 0.034); however, it was not significant among different age groups(P > 0.05).Univariate and multivariate analyses identified four variables as the significant key risk factors of Giardia infection among the sampled *** are, in addition to being of the male gender, using unsafe water sources for drinking water, not washing hands after defecation, presence of other family members infected with Giardia, and close contact with domestic ***: The study reveals that Giardia infection is still prevalent among rural communities in *** provision of clean and safe drinking water, proper sanitation,and health education regarding personal hygiene practices, particularly handwashing, as well as identifying and treating infected family members is imperative and these interventions should be considered in a strategy to control intestinal parasites among these communities in order to curtail the transmission and morbidity caused by ***.

This paper reports some results of our in vitro cultivation of S. japonicum schistosomula. Some features of growth and development of 3-day old schistosomula of S. japonicum in medium A were comparable with those in medium B, the latter being somewhat better. The growth and development of skin schistosomula in medium B were described. The procedure used in our studies is simple and practical.

Objective:To compare the DNA sequences of Leishmania(L.)donovani isolated from individuals in two districts of the Northern Province with other parts of Sri Lanka and neighboring ***:Samples were collected from military personnel at the Army Hospital,Narahenpita,Sri Lanka from November 2018 to March 2020.A portion of the samples was fixed,stained with Giemsa and observed under the light *** genomic The DNA was extracted from the remaining portion of the samples using DNEasy blood tissue kit(Qiagen,Germany)and amplified using Leishmania genus-specific primers for molecular diagnosis *** was amplified using *** species-specific primers by PCR and the amplified product was sequenced for comparison of nucleotide ***:Out of 76 suspected patients,at least one biological sample of 45(59.2%)was positive for *** upon ***,33(43.4%)were positive in Leishmania genus-specific PCR,but only 23(30.3%)were positive in *** specific *** dendrogram indicates that the current sequences clustered together with those from Nepal and Gampaha districts(Western Province),Sri Lanka,while the Indian and Eastern African sequences clustered ***:The genetic diversity was low among the isolates,indicating a single and possibly a local point of ***,the similarity of Sri Lankan and Nepal strains indicate a possibility of a shared point of origin,which needs more extensive evidence to confirm.

Currently,colorectal cancer(CRC)represents the third most common malignancy and the second most deadly cancer worldwide,with a higher incidence in developed *** other solid tumors,CRC is a heterogeneous genomic disease in which various alterations,such as point mutations,genomic rearrangements,gene fusions or chromosomal copy number alterations,can contribute to the disease ***,because of its orderly natural history,easily accessible onset location and high lifetime incidence,CRC is ideally suited for preventive intervention,but the many screening efforts of the last decades have been compromised by performance limitations and low penetrance of the standard screening *** advent of next-generation sequencing(NGS)has both facilitated the identification of previously unrecognized CRC features such as its relationship with gut microbial pathogens and revolutionized the speed and throughput of cataloguing CRC-related genomic ***,in this review,we summarized the several diagnostic tools used for CRC screening in the past and the present,focusing on recent NGS approaches and their revolutionary role in the identification of novel genomic CRC characteristics,the advancement of understanding the CRC carcinogenesis and the screening of clinically actionable targets for personalized medicine.
