association of plant-based diets with risk of upper gastrointestinal tract cancers:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Diets rich in red or processed meat have been linked to an increased risk of cancers within the digestive *** has been suggested that a plant-based diet may have protective effects against digestive system *** study aimed to determine the association between plant-based diets and upper gastrointestinal tract cancers(UGTCs).Methods:We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational *** searched the PubMed,MEDLINE,Embase,and Web of Science databases for articles published up to September 30,*** pooled the risk ratios(RRs) with the corresponding95% confidence intervals(CIs) using fixed-or random-effects ***:Our meta-analysis included 16 studies(30 results).The data revealed a strong inverse association between a high intake of plant-based diets and UGTC(RR=0.60,95% CI=0.49-0.72),specifically gastric cancer(GC,RR=0.53,95% CI=0.42-0.67) and esophageal cancer(EC,RR=0.63,95% CI=0.42-0.96).This relationship was not significant for gastric cardia cancer(GCA) or esophagogastric junctional cancer(EGJC,RR=0.76,95% CI=0.47-1.22).A subgroup analysis showed the association was significant in studies from Asia and Europe,as well as in studies utilizing indices such as a vegetarian diet,Mediterranean diet,the Plant-Based Diet Index,and principal component analysis dietary *** was no indication of publication bias among the analyzed ***:This meta-analysis highlights the potential health benefits of plant-based diets in preventing UGTC,particularly regarding esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) and ***,additional research is required to validate these results and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin at SICU admission predicts for cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury

Background Acute Kidney Injury （AKI） is a common and serious complication of cardiovascular surgery. There is a need to find biomarkers that are involved in the etiology of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury （CSA-AKI） and have an earlier response to acute kidney injury. The association between urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin （NGAL） concentrations and AKI progression is not well established. Methods The prospective-cohort study included 1631 consecutive adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery at Fuwai Hospital between September 2012 and November 2013. AKI defined by Acute Kidney Injury Network （AKIN） criteria with a postoperative increase in plasma creatinine 〉/50% baseline or/〉0.3 mg/dL. Urine NGAL was measured us- ing latex particle-enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay. associations between Urine NGAL levels and AKI were determined by estimating areas under receiver operating characteristic curves （AUC）. Results A total of 438 （26.9%） patients developed CSA-AKI. And the patients were divided into four groups： 1193 non-AKI patients, 368（22.6%） patients with AKIN stage I AKI, 49（3.0%） with AKIN stage 2 AKI and 21（1.3%） with AKIN stage 3 AKI. urine NGAL concentrations at surgical intensive care unit （SICU） admission were significantly related to AKI severity. The AUCs for urine NGAL were for AKIN stage 1 （0.54±0.02）, AKIN stage 2 （0.67±0.04）, and AKIN stage 3 （0.76±0.06）, respectively. Conclusions Urinary NGAL is associated with CSA-AKI and its progression, indicating their potential use as prognostic markers. Urine NGAL level measured at SICU admission predicts the development of severe AKI after cardiac surgery.

Hidden correlation of the effect mechanism on chronic gastritis treated with ginger-isolated moxibustion at different single acupoints

Objective: To observe the differences in the effects and mechanisms on chronic gastritis treated by ginger-isolated moxibustion at Zúsānlǐ(足三里ST 36) and Nèiguān(内关PC 6).Methods: A total of 60 eligible patients of chronic gastritis were randomized into two groups, a ST 36 group(ginger-isolated moxibustion at ST 36, 30 cases) and a PC 6 group(ginger-isolated moxibustion at PC 6, 30 cases). Before and after 6 treatments, the total variability of heart rate(TV) and the scores in Scale for gastrointestinal diseases of traditional chinese medicine were determined and recorded. Using correlation analysis, the hidden correlation condition that affects the therapeutic outcomes was excavated from the data. With least square method, the gradient curve(K value) of TV in treatment was estimated and the correlation between the effect mechanism and autonomic nerve regulation was ***: ① In ST 36 group, the duration of sickness, severity of disease and the activity of autonomic nerve before treatment presented the underlying correlation with the therapeutic effects. In contrast, the hidden correlation in PC 6 group was not clear. ② In ST 36 group, the higher K value of TV in treatment was, the more significant the therapeutic effects were, but in PC group, K value was reversely related to the therapeutic ***: The therapeutic effects of ginger-isolated moxibustion at single acupoint are correlated with the duration and severity of sickness. The therapeutic effects in ST 36 group were improved by the modulation of autonomic nerve activity and the effects in PC 6 group were negatively correlated with autonomic nerve activity. It is deduced that the effect mechanisms are different on single acupoint for chronic gastritis between the two points.

Doxorubicin(DOX)is a commonly administered chemotherapy drug for treating hematological malignancies and solid tumors;however,its clinical application is limited by significant ***(Cyn)is a flavonoid glycoside distributed in honeysuckle,with confirmed potential biological functions in regulating inflammation,pyroptosis,and oxidative ***,the effects of Cyn were evaluated in a DOX-induced cardiotoxicity(DIC)mouse model,which was established by intraperitoneal injections of DOX(5 mg/kg)once a week for three *** mice in the treatment group received dexrazoxane,MCC950,and Cyn every two *** biochemistry,histopathology,immunohistochemistry,reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR),and western blotting were conducted to investigate the cardioprotective effects and potential mechanisms of Cyn *** results demonstrated the significant benefits of Cyn treatment in mitigating DIC;it could effectively alleviate oxidative stress to a certain extent,maintain the equilibrium of cell apoptosis,and enhance the cardiac function of *** effects were realized via regulating the transcription levels of pyroptosis-related genes,such as nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3),caspase-1,and gasdermin D(GSDMD).Mechanistically,for DOX-induced myocardial injury,Cyn could significantly modulate the expression of pivotal genes,including adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK),peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγcoactivator-1α(PGC-1α),sirtuin 3(SIRT3),and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2).We attribute it to the mediation of AMPK/SIRT3/Nrf2 pathway,which plays a central role in preventing DOX-induced cardiomyocyte *** conclusion,the present study confirms the therapeutic potential of Cyn in DIC by regulating the AMPK/SIRT3/Nrf2 pathway.

A Cloud-resolving Study on the Role of Cumulus Merger in MCS with Heavy Precipitation

The cumulus merging processes in generating the mesoscale convective system （MCS） on 23 August 2001 in the Beijing region are studied by using a cloud-resolving mesoscale model of MM5. The results suggest that the merger processes occurred among isolated convective cells formed in high mountain region during southerly moving process play critical role in forming MCS and severe precipitating weather events such as hailfall, heavy rain, downburst and high-frequency lightning in the region. The formation of the MCS experiences multi-scale merging processes from single-cell scale merging to cloud cluster-scale merging, and high core merging. The merger process can apparently alter cloud dynamical and microphysical properties through enhancing both low- and middle-level forcing. Also, lightning flash rates are enhanced by the production of more intense and deeper convective cells by the merger process, especially by which, the more graupel-like ice particles are formed in clouds. The explosive convective development and the late peak lightning flash rate can be found during merging process.

Noncontact interaction systems have attracted considerable research attention in recent years because of convenient operation,sterility,and injury ***,the insufficient sensing distance and weak robustness of noncontact interaction systems for complex environments limit their practical ***,we designed an integrated optical noncontact controlling system(ONCS)based on PtTe_(x)/Si optoelectronic heterojunction *** sensitive photoresponse is realized at zero bias voltage,with excellent detectivity and responsivity,boosting the noncontact sensing distance to at least 150 ***,the system can perform noncontact detection,encoding,and control by recognizing shadow-induced spatiotemporal sequence changes in heterojunction array *** a proof of concept,different interactive functions have been demonstrated with good accuracy and robustness by encoding finger movement above the *** study provides a new perspective for constructing high-performance noncontact interaction systems.

The flavonoid casticin enhances TRAIL-induced apoptosis of colon cancer cells through endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated up-regulation of DR5

Objective： The aim of this study was to explore the mechanisms by which the flavonoid casticin enhances tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand （TRAIL）-induced apoptosis in colon cancer cells. Methods： Human colon cancer HT-29 cells were treated with TRAIL or casticin. Cytotoxicity was examined by MTT assay, and apoptosis determined by morphological observation and flow cytometric analysis. Death receptor 5 （DRS）, DR4, and endoplasmic reticulum （ER） stress response markers, including glucose regulating protein 78 （GRP78）, activating transcription factor 4 （ATF4） and CHOP （CCAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous protein）, were examined with western blot. Small interfering RNA （siRNA） transfection was employed to knock down CHOP. Results： HT-29 cells were resistance to TRAIL-induced apoptosis, but casticin, at subtoxic concentrations, potentiated HT-29 cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Casticin up-regulated the expression of DR5 time-and dose-dependent manners, but had no effect on the expression of DR4. Also, casticin increased the levels of ER stress response markers （GRP78, ATF4 and CHOP） in a similar way to DR5. Knockdown of CHOP by specific siRNA, or salubrinal, an ER stress inhibitor, abolished the up-regulation of DR5 and enhancement of TRAIL-induced apoptosis by casticin. Conclusion： Casticin enhances TRAIL-induced apoptosis of colon cancer cells by ER stress-mediated up-regulation of DR5.

Artificial intelligence (AI)-based radiomics has attracted considerable research attention in the field of medical imaging, including ultrasound diagnosis. Ultrasound imaging has unique advantages such as high temporal resolution, low cost, and no radiation exposure. This renders it a preferred imaging modality for several clinical scenarios. This review includes a detailed introduction to imaging modalities, including Brightness-mode ultrasound, color Doppler flow imaging, ultrasound elastography, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and multi-modal fusion analysis. It provides an overview of the current status and prospects of AI-based radiomics in ultrasound diagnosis, highlighting the application of AI-based radiomics to static ultrasound images, dynamic ultrasound videos, and multi-modal ultrasound fusion analysis.

Objective : To investigate the association of Ki-67 with pathological characteristics and prognostic value in different genotype of NSCLC patients. Methods :347 cases of unresected local advanced or metastatic NCSCL patients were selected from the first affiliated hospital of China medical University. Data about pathological features and survival were collected respectively. Genetic test results were achieved from plasma samples or tumor tissue samples by high throughput sequencing and Ki-67 proliferation index were analyzed by immunohistochemistry retrospectively. The relationship between Ki-67 and pathological features(such as gender, age, pathological type, tumor size, lymphatic metastasis, TMM stage, ECOG score and different gene status) was examined by Spearman’s rank correlation. Survival curves were calculated by the Kaplan-Meier *** analyses were performed using the Cox regression model to study factors that independently influenced overall survival. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results :Ki-67 expression was significantly corrected with gender(61% in male vs 47% in female, P=0.009),tumor histology(82% in squamous cell cancer vs 51% in non-squamous cell cancer, P<0.001), and EGFR gene status(60% in wild type vs 48% in EGFR gene mutant type, P=0.037) in NSCLC *** survival analysis, low Ki-67 expression indicated better survival for PFS and OS in EGFR wild type(mPFS:6.0 months vs 5.0 months, P=0.004;mO S: not reached vs 27.0 months, P=0.020) 、 EGFR mutant type(mPFS:12.0 months vs 7.0 months, P<0.001;mO S: not reached vs 48.0 months, P=0.002),KRAS gene wild type(mPFS:10.0 months vs 5.0 months, P=0.024;mO S:53.0 months vs 24.0 months,P=0.031), PIK3 CA gene wild type(mPFS:7.0 months vs 5.0 months, P=0.015;mO S:not reached vs19.5 months, P=0.007) and PTEN gene wild type(mPFS:11.0 months vs 6.0 months, P=0.005;mO S:not reached vs 40.0 months, P=0.020) groups Furthermore, Ki-67 expression can also play as a great predictive

NAD＋ and its precursors in human longevity

Aging is a complex issue due to its nature in progressive physiological and functional decay. As better medicine, technology, and living conditions became accessible to many people, the longevity of human beings increased during the past centuries. Recent research established vital roles for NAD＋ and its precursors in protecting and maintaining the redox homeostasis in cells, which might be applicable therapeutically to prevent cell degeneration. Notably, the contribution of NAD＋ metabolites to lifespan extension in model systems indicates that the potential beneficial effects of NAD＋ precursors. In this mini review, by introducing the background of NAD＋-consuming enzymes in ＂caloric restriction＂, we focus on NAD＋ and its precursors in diet, with further emphasis on its association with health and diseases. We also provide insights in future utilization ofNAD＋ and its precursors as nutrition supplement for lifespan extension.
