Dear Editor,Hereditary prostate cancer(PC)comprises 5%-10%of all PC *** increased risk of PC in menwith a family his-tory of the disease is well known and is commonly caused by germline mutations,leading to clinical guidelines men-tioning various genes for identifying high-risk ***,the complex inheritance patterns involvingmul-tiple single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)make it a genetically heterogeneous disease,with genetic testing still in its early stages.

Ischemic stroke:complication of hypertension in hospital west of Almeria in Spain

Objective:The aim of this paper was to analyse the etiologic,clinical,and therapeutic characteristics of the ischemic stroke in the comarca of Poniente,Almeria,***:An observational descriptive study was carried out from June 2005 to June 2006 in the hospital of *** studied 243 patients admitted to Internal Medicine Department diag-nosed with ischemic *** revised the clinical histories of patients using social,demographic,clinical,diagnostic,and therapeutic variables.A descriptive analysis of the variables was performed using SPSS V10.1 ***:A total of 172 patients(70.7%)were admitted to *** time course of the stroke episode was less than 6 hours(40.6%);mean age of patients 73 years(50% males);94% were autochthonous workers,6% immigrants,72% hypertensive,and 35% had a history of previous *** most common symptom was dysarthria(59%);brain CAT scan was performed in all of them within 6 hours after stroke onset,and antiplatelet drugs were given within 48 hours after stroke *** 30% of the patients received early rehabilitation,12% died within the first ***:We found clinical and epidemiologic characteristics similar to those reported in the literature;we found a lower incidence of CVD and a higher time course than the national average.

Among neurodegenerative diseases,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is the most frequent one involving motor neurons(MNs).ALS incidence varies throughout the world ranging from 0.7 to 4 cases per 100,000 habitants and year(Riancho et al.,2016).This disease,which currently lacks an effective therapy,is characterized by a variable combination of upper and lower MN degeneration,leading to progressive muscle wasting which usually results in a terminal respiratory failure within 3 years after symptom onset(Zufiria et al.,2016).A small proportion of ALS cases show familial *** are related to mutations in specific causative genes(Cr9ORF72,TARDBP,FUS,SOD1 and others)which directly determine disease onset in *** contrast,more than 90 percent of cases are considered to be sporadic,in which generally unknown environmental and internal factors interact with genetic predisposing factors finally leading to disease(Riancho et al.,2018).From a histopathological point of view,ALS is characterized by MN damage and *** from ALS sporadic and most of familial patients exhibit prominent transactive response DNA-binding protein 43(TDP-43)cytoplasmic aggregates which are considered as the“pathological hallmark”of the disease,excepting those related to SOD1 and FUS mutations(Zufiria et al.,2016).TDP-43 is a DNA/RNA binding protein encoded by the TARDBP gene that controls the expression of many different genes.

Purpose:The present work examines the associations of dietary habits,sedentarism,physical activity(PA)levels and sleep habits,with thyroid function in young euthyroid ***:A total of 105 young euthyroid adults participated in this cross-sectional *** function was determined in fasting conditions(>6 h).Dietary habits were measured by a food frequency questionnaire and three non-consecutive 24 h recalls,and different dietary intake and patterns were then *** time spent in sedentary,PA levels and sleep habits were objectively measured using a wrist-worn ***:Energy and carbohydrate intake were positively associated with thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)(β=0.222;R^(2)=0.102;P=0.022 andβ=0.425;R^(2)=0.129;P=0.007,respectively)whereas fat intake was negatively associated with TSH(β=-0.428;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Energy intake was also positively associated with free triiodothyronine(β=0.277;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Further,adherence to the Mediterranean diet was negatively related to TSH and free thyroxine(FT4)(β=-0.221;R^(2)=0.113;P=0.020 andβ=-0.268;R^(2)=0.071;P=0.007,respectively).Vigorous-intensity and overall PA were negatively associated with FT4(β=-0.227;R^(2)=0.052;P=0.022 andβ=-0.204;R^(2)=0.042;P=0.041,respectively).In contrast,no associations were found between sleep parameters and thyroid ***:Lifestyle factors such as dietary intake and PA levels seems to be related to thyroid function even in young euthyroid adults.

Results: Energy and carbohydrate intake were positively associated with thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) (β = 0.222; R2= 0.102; P = 0.022 and β = 0.425; R2= 0.129; P = 0.007， respectively) whereas fat intake was negatively associated with TSH (β = -0.428; R2= 0.137; P = 0.004). Energy intake was also positively associated with free triiodothyronine (β = 0.277; R2= 0.137; P = 0.004). Further， adherence to the Mediterranean diet was negatively related to TSH and free thyroxine (FT4) (β = -0.221; R2= 0.113; P = 0.020 and β = -0.268; R2= 0.071; P = 0.007， respectively). Vigorous-intensity and overall PA were negatively associated with FT4 (β = -0.227; R2= 0.052; P = 0.022 and β = -0.204; R2= 0.042; P = 0.041， respectively). In contrast， no associations were found between sleep parameters and thyroid function. Conclusions: Lifestyle factors such as dietary intake and PA levels seems to be related to thyroid function in young euthyroid adults.
