The present work deals with the integration of remote-sensing,surface-geology and gravity-survey data to improve the structural knowledge of the Tarhunah area,northwest *** information and remote-sensing data provided information about the surface structure.A gravity survey was conducted to decipher the subsurface *** results revealed that a basin having a width of 39 to 48 km trends NE.A two-dimensional(2-D)schematic model shows that the basin gradually deepens toward the *** determined from a horizontal gradient,tilt derivative,and Euler deconvolution show a depth range of 2.5 to 7.5 *** integration and interpretation of the results indicate that volcanic activity was related to the tectonic activity of an anticlinal structure called the Jabal Uplift.

The present work examined the anisotropy magnitudes obtained from different elastic models of cubic metals(Cu,5383 Al alloy,FCC austenite steel and BCC steel)to explore the origin of strain *** results showed that stable intersections were observed from the modeled and experimental plots of the reciprocal elastic modulus(1/Ehkl)and orientation parameter(Γ).The effectiveness of quasi elasto-plastic model based method in correcting strain anisotropy was further verified in cold-worked *** the important input parameters in dislocation model based diffraction line profile analysis methods,the average diffraction contrast factors(■)of dislocations were observed to depend on elastic *** intersections were found from linear dependence of■onΓ.The conventional input■values indicated distinct dependencies on given elastic constants in diffraction line profile ***,a refined approach was proposed by adopting the optimized intersections as input values,by which more reliable results could be obtained in practical applications.

Prediction of the solidification structure of casting and heterogeneous nucleation

The frequency of heterogeneous nucleation during the solidification of Al-Sibinary alloy was estimated by comparing experimentally obtained macrostructures of castings withnumerically simulated ones. A molten alloy was unidirectionally solidified from a water-cooledcopper chill in an adiabatic mold. The location of columnar to equiaxed transition (CET) in thesolidified alloy ingot was measured. A numerical simulation for grain structure formation based onthe Monte Carlo method was carried out, and the frequency of heterogeneous nucleation in the alloywas evaluated by producing similar structure with the experimental one. The frequency ofheterogeneous nucleation was expressed as a probabilistic function with an exponential form ofundercooling that deter-mines the probability of nucleation event in the simulation. The value ofthe exponent is regarded as the nucleation parameter. The nucleation parameter of Al-Si binary alloyvaried with initial Si content.

Purpose: To compare the activities of acid phosphatase, N-acetyl-β-glu-cosaminidase and a- mannosidase in cultured retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)and glial cells of Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rat with those in Long Evans(LE).Methods: The cultured RPE and glial cells of RCS and LE rat were plated into thesame 96 well microtitre, and the biochemical method in microsystem were usedfor enzyme ***: The activities of acid phosphatase and N-acetyl- β-glucosaminidase arehigher by, respectively, 30% and 46% in cultured RPE of RCS rat than LE *** activity of a- mannosidase has no significant difference. The activities of 3enzymes in the retinal glial cells derived from RCS rats are higher than LE rat by43% to 77%.Conclusion: These results suggest that the high activities of lysosomal enzymes inRCS RPE and glial cells may play an important role in the pathogenesis of retinaldystrophy. The use of spatial data has become a key factor in numerous public sector ***,recent evidence suggests that the seemingly obvious benefits of spatial data use and sharing often stay beyond *** paper examines whether the performance of spatial data in inter-organisational processes depends on the structural characteristics of the process *** structure here refers to the way in which tasks are divided and coordinated between the organisations in a process chain,and to the allocation of the spatial data handling tasks in that *** data performance describes the level of access,use and sharing of spatial data in the *** paper presents the results of a comparative case study of interorganisational public sector processes in the fields of urban planning,flood management,population registration,environmental permit delivery and road safety *** findings suggest that spatial data performance in inter-organisational processes depends on the interplay between the structural characteristics of the *** processes with embedded activities that are related to spatial data are apparently linked to a high level of spatial data performance,while fragmented processes without centralised coordination,or processes in which the spatial datarelated activities are separated from the actual process,seem to relate to lower levels of spatial data performance.

A preliminary study on the effects of line and selective thinning on bird communities in Hokkaido, northern Japan

In Japan, selective thinning is a common thinning method, though line thinning receives much attention because of its economic merits. In this study, we examined effects of the two thinning methods on bird communities in Todo fir （Abies sachalinensis） plantations in Hok- kaido, Japan. We surveyed bird species in forests under four different management types - unthinned, selectively thinned, line-thinned planta- tion, and naturally regenerated forest （here after referred to as natural forest） stands - using a line-transect method. We also investigated vege- tation structure （canopy tree and understory） of these stands. Bird species richness did not differ between natural forests and plantations, while bird total abundance was greater in plantations than in natural forests. Bird species richness and total abundance were comparable among the three management types for plantations. Abundances of 10 bird species were different among the four management types, and five species were more abundant in line-thinned plantations. However, two species were more abundant in selectively thinned stands than in line-thinned stands, and they frequently appeared in natural forests. There were no distinct differ- ences in vegetation structure among the management types for planta- tions. Our results suggest that line thinning could be beneficial for some bird species in plantations.
