Structural and functional alterations in the brains of patients with anisometropic and strabismic amblyopia:a systematic review of magnetic resonance imaging studies

Amblyopia is the most common cause of vision loss in children and can persist into adulthood in the absence of effective *** clinical and neuroimaging studies have suggested that the neural mechanisms underlying strabismic amblyopia and anisometropic amblyopia may be ***,we performed a systematic review of magnetic resonance imaging studies investigating brain alterations in patients with these two subtypes of amblyopia;this study is registered with PROSPERO(registration ID:CRD42022349191).We searched three online databases(PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science) from inception to April 1,2022;39 studies with 633 patients(324patients with anisometropic amblyo pia and 309 patients with strabismic amblyopia) and 580 healthy controls met the inclusion criteria(e.g.,case-control designed,pee r-reviewed articles) and were included in this *** studies highlighted that both strabismic amblyopia and anisometropic amblyopia patients showed reduced activation and distorted topological cortical activated maps in the striate and extrastriate co rtices during tas k-based functional magnetic resonance imaging with spatial-frequency stimulus and retinotopic representations,respectively;these may have arisen from abnormal visual *** for amblyopia that are reflected in enhanced spontaneous brain function have been reported in the early visual cortices in the resting state,as well as reduced functional connectivity in the dorsal pathway and structural connections in the ventral pathway in both anisometro pic amblyopia and strabismic amblyopia *** shared dysfunction of anisometro pic amblyopia and strabismic amblyopia patients,relative to controls,is also chara cterized by reduced spontaneous brain activity in the oculomotor co rtex,mainly involving the frontal and parietal eye fields and the cerebellu m;this may underlie the neural mechanisms of fixation instability and anomalous saccades in *** regards to

Precise diagnosis of lymph node metastasis is important for therapeutic regimen planning,prognosis analysis and probably better outcomes for cancer *** this work,^(68)Ga-labeled amphiphilic alternating copolymers nanoparticles with different rigid ligands were synthesized as positron emission tomography(PET)probes for lymph node metastasis *** labeling efficiency and stability of nanoparticles was improved with increased rigidity of coordination ***(^(68)Ga-L-MDI-PEG)nanoparticles(PU(^(68)Ga-L-MDI-PEG)NPs)with the strongest rigidity of coordination unit exhibited the lowest critical micelle concentration,the best^(68)Ga labeling efficiency and *** in vivo lymph node metastasis imaging,PU(^(68)Ga-L-MDI-PEG)NPs led to different accumulations in normal lymph nodes(N-LN)and tumor metastasized sentinel lymph nodes(T-SLN),which resulted in different PET signal presentation,making it feasible to differentiate N-LN from *** comparison,small molecule probe^(68)GaL had poor lymph node accumulation,not only making it difficult to find lymph nodes on PET/computed tomography scan,but also tough to distinguish N-LN from metastatic ***,this work provides a reference for design of^(68)Ga labeled polymeric nanoparticles with high chelation efficiency and stability,as sensitive PET probes for lymph node imaging.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasonographic findings of hepatic paragonimiasis

AIM: To investigate the features of hepatic paragonimiasis on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imag- ing. METHODS: Fifteen patients with hepatic paragonimiasis who were admitted to our hospital between March 2008 and August 2012 were enrolled to this study. The conventional ultrasound and CEUS examinations were performed with a Philips IU22 scanner with a 1-5-MHz convex transducer. After conventional ultrasound scanning was completed, the CEUS study was performed. Pulse inversion harmonic imaging was used for CEUS. A bolus injection of 2.4 mL of a sulfur hexafluoride-filled microbubble contrast agent (SonoVue) was administered. CEUS features were retrospectively reviewed and correlated with pathological findings. RESULTS: In total, 16 lesions were detected on CEUS. The mean size of the lesions was 4.4 ± 1.6 cm (range, 1.7-6.6 cm). Subcapsular location was found in 12 lesions (75%). All the lesions were hypoechoic. Six lesions (37.5%) were of mixed content, seven (43.8%) were solid with small cystic areas, and the other three (18.8%) were completely solid. Ten lesions (62.5%) were rim enhanced with irregular tract-like nonenhanced internal areas. Transient wedge-shaped hyperenhancement of the surrounding liver parenchyma was seen in seven lesions (43.8%). Areas with hyperor iso-enhancement in the arterial phase showed contrast wash-out and appeared hypoenhanced in the late phase. The main pathological findings included: (1) coagulative or liquefactive necrosis within the lesion, infiltration of a large number of eosinophils with the formation of chronic eosinophilic abscesses and sporadic distribution of Charcot-Leyden crystals; and (2) hyperplasia of granulomatous and fibrous tissue around the lesion. CONCLUSION: Subcapsular location, hypoechogenicity, rim enhancement and tract-like nonenhanced areas could be seen as the main CEUS features of hepatic paragonimiasis.

Facile scalable one-step wet-spinning of surgical sutures with shape memory function and antibacterial activity for wound healing

Surgical suture is commonly used in clinic due to its action in accelerating the process of wound ***,difficultly handling in minimally invasive surgery and bacteria-induced infection usually limit its use in a wide range of ***,we report a facile scalable strategy to fabricate surgical sutures with shape memory function and antibacterial activity for wound ***,a shape memory polyurethane(SMPU)with a transition temperature(Ttrans)at 41.3℃was synthesized by adjusting the mole ratio of the hard/soft segment,and then the shape memory surgical sutures containing polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride(PHMB)as a model drug for antibacterial activity were fabricated by a facile scalable one-step wet-spinning approach,in which PHMB was directly dissolved in the coagulation bath that enable its loading into the sutures through the dual diffusion during the phase *** prepared sutures were characterized by their morphology,mechanical properties,shape memory,antibacterial activity,as well as biocompatibility before the wound healing capability was tested in a mouse skin suture-wound *** was demonstrated that the optimized suture is capable of both shape memory function and antibacterial activity,and promote wound healing,suggesting that the facile scalable one-step wet-spinning strategy provides a promising tool to fabricate surgical sutures for wound healing.

Clinical characteristics and in-hospital outcomes of patients receiving contemporary intensive cardiac care:retrospective study from a large centre in china

A novel NF1 frame-shift mutation c.703＿704delTA in a Chinese pedigree with neurofibromatosis type 1

We analyzed the clinical features and NF1 gene mutation in a Chinese pedigree of neurofibromatosis type 1（NF1）. Three members of this family were NF1 patients presenting with different clinical phenotypes and the others were asymptomatic. Exons of NF1 were amplified by polymerase chain reaction, sequenced, compared with a reference database. One novel NF1 frame-shift mutation c.703_704delTA, which resulted in a premature stop signal at codon 720 and the synthesis of truncated, was revealed. This mutation segregated with the NF1 members is likely responsible for the pathogenesis of NF1 in the family.

Polydopamine-coated i-motif DNA/Gold nanoplatforms for synergistic photothermal-chemotherapy

The combination of photothermal therapywith chemotherapy has gradually developed into promising cancer ***,a synergistic photothermal-chemotherapy nanoplatform based on polydopamine(PDA)-coated gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)were facilely achieved via the in situ polymerization of dopamine(DA)on the surface of *** nanoplatform exhibited augmented photothermal conversion efficiency and enhanced colloidal stability in comparison with uncoated PDA shell *** i-motif DNA nanostructure was assembled on PDA-coated AuNPs,which could be transformed into a C-quadruplex structure under an acidic environment,showing a characteristic pH *** PDA shell served as a linker between the AuNPs and the i-motif DNA *** enhance the specific cellular uptake,the AS1411 aptamer was introduced to the DNA nanostructure employed as a targeting *** addition,Dox-loaded NPs(DAu@PDA-AS141)showed the pH/photothermal-responsive release of *** photothermal effect of DAu@PDA-AS141 elicited excellent photothermal performance and efficient cancer cell inhibition under 808 nm near-infrared(NIR)***,these results demonstrate that the DAu@PDA-AS141 nanoplatform shows great potential in synergistic photothermal-chemotherapy.

Risk factors for prostatic inflammation extent and infection in benign prostatic hyperplasia

Aim： To investigate the risk factors for prostatic inflammation extent and infection in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） so as to manage prostatic inflammation more efficiently. Methods： Sixty patients with BPH undergoing TURP between September 2005 and December 2005 in west china hospital of sichuan university were studied. Prostate fluid （PF） was collected for the measurement of secretory IgA （SIgA） and complement 3 （C3）. Prostate tissue were collected for testing bacterial 16S rDNA by real-time PCR, examining SIgA in the tissue and examining the inflammation. The possible clinical and immune risk factors for prostatic inflammation or infection were analyzed by using the logistic regression method. Results： Abnormal white blood cell count in urinalysis, prostatic infection and a high concentration of C3 in PF are the risk factors for prostatic inflammation extent （P = 0.025, 0.034 and 0.035, respectively and odds ratio [OR] = 18.269, 8.284 and 1.508, respectively）. Risk factors for prostatic infection include the C3 concentration and the concentration of SIgA in PF （P = 0.003 and 0.013, respectively, and OR=1.645 and 0.993, respectively）. Conclusion： The present study suggests that prostatic inflammation is associated with urinary tract infection, prostatic infection and the activated complement and that prostatic infection is associated with the activated complement and downregulated mucosal immunity in prostates of the patients with BPH. It is also suggested that individual immune regulation should be considered in the treatment of prostatic inflammation and infection of patients with BPH.
