Implementation of an international medical student pen-pal club:survey outcomes of perceptions in cultural competency and global health

Remodeling neuroscience education in medical student training:how early exposure and mentorship are promoting student interest in neurology and neurosurgery

Exposure to clinical neurology is an essential aspect of a young clinician＇s training. Neuroscience forms the cornerstone of a wide variety of clinical pathologies and many believe it is currently under represented in medical education. This phenomenon persists as the rapidly aging population places an increasing burden on neuromedical specialists. This demographic change, compounded by the expected 19% shortage in clinical neurologists by 2025, makes it imperative to reexamine specific aspects of neuro- medical education （Dall et al., 2013）. These aspects include the timing of pre-clinical neuroscience education, the presence of faculty supported interest groups, the existence of formal mentorship programs, and the availability of neurology and neurosurgical clerkships to 3rd year medical students. Given the increasing importance of neuromedi- cal training, several recent studies have examined the state of neurology training in modern medical education and its impact on medical graduates.

Perspectives of high-risk pregnant women on home care program in high-risk pregnancies: A multicenter, qualitative study

Objective:To explore the perspectives of high-risk pregnant women regarding the home care program for high-risk ***:This qualitative study was conducted in a university hospital and 5 comprehensive health centers in Ahvaz,Iran,from February 2023 to July *** sampling method used was purposive sampling considering the maximum possible diversity,which continued until data saturation.11 in-depth and semistructured interviews were conducted with high-risk pregnant *** were simultaneously analysed using Graneheim and Lundman content analysis by MAXQDA version 20 ***:Data analysis extracted 3 themes,12 categories,and 26 *** themes and categories were“high-risk pregnancy and related issues(pursuing treatment and paying attention to the high-risk situation by pregnant women,psychological aspect of high-risk pregnancy on pregnant women and caregivers,emotional and physical aspects of high-risk pregnancy,the consequences of high-risk pregnancy on the people around them and empowerment of high-risk pregnant women)”,“support dimension(family and community support for high-risk pregnant women)”,and“framework of program(acculturalization,means and equipment,security,manpower and the necessary arrangements for the home care)”.Conclusions:High-risk pregnancy affects various aspects of the lives of high-risk pregnant women and their *** the necessary conditions for providing care at home plays a vital role in supporting high-risk pregnant women and removing related obstacles to receiving prenatal care in *** will be especially beneficial for high-risk pregnant women in low-income areas.

Objective:Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)is one of the most important life-saving procedures in the *** to medical guidelines,family presence during CPR is still not accepted in some *** presence during CPR depends on the nurses’attitude,which is influenced by various *** intelligence(EI)helps nurses make wise decisions and display responsible behavior,which is necessary for proper and good performance in *** study’s purpose was to determine the attitude of acute care nurses toward family presence during CPR and its relationship with ***:The descriptive-analytical study was conducted among the nurses of acute care units(intensive care unit[ICU],critical care unit,and emergency department)in teaching hospitals of Qazvin University of medical Sciences,Iran,in 2022-2023.A total of 186 nurses were included in the study using convenience *** data collection tools were a checklist of demographic characteristics,nurses’attitude toward the presence of family scale,and Siberia Schering’s EI *** collected data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics and SPSS ***:The mean age of the participants was(32.05±6.93)*** 186 nurses participating in the study,127(68.3%)were women and the rest were *** mean score of attitude was 47.41±9.41(the minimum score of the nurses was 19 and the maximum score was 95).The mean score of EI was 99.27±8.86(the minimum score was 69 and the maximum score was 128).The results of Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed no significant relationship between the total score of attitude and EI of the participants(P=0.588).Data analysis showed that only the self-arousal dimension of EI has a significant relationship with the range of family self-control behaviors in attitude(P=0.037).Conclusions:The results showed that the nurses of acute care units have a positive attitude toward the presence of the family during CPR and have high ***

Repetitive traumatic brain injury impacts adult neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus,leading to long-term cognitive ***,the mechanism underlying this neurogenesis impairment remains *** this study,we established a male mouse model of repetitive traumatic brain injury and performed long-term evaluation of neurogenesis of the hippocampal dentate gyrus after repetitive traumatic brain *** results showed that repetitive traumatic brain injury inhibited neural stem cell proliferation and development,delayed neuronal maturation,and reduced the complexity of neuronal dendrites and *** with repetitive traumatic brain injuryalso showed deficits in spatial memory ***,following repetitive traumatic brain injury,neuroinflammation was enhanced in the neurogenesis microenvironment where C1q levels were increased,C1q binding protein levels were decreased,and canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling was *** inhibitor of C1 reversed the long-term impairment of neurogenesis induced by repetitive traumatic brain injury and improved neurological *** findings suggest that repetitive traumatic brain injury–induced C1-related inflammation impairs long-term neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and contributes to spatial memory retrieval dysfunction.

BACKGROUND Acute cholecystitis due to unintended cystic artery embolism is an uncommon and mostly self-limiting complication after transarterial chemoembolization procedure for treatment of hepatocellular ***,conservative management is sufficient for complete recovery of patients who develop this *** conservative treatment is ineffective,urgent surgical inter-vention may be required to prevent the progression of *** SUMMARY This article reports a rare and serious case of acute cholecystitis complicated by gallbladder necrosis and biliary peritonitis,which was initially treated conservatively but eventually necessitated emergency *** patient initially presented with equivocal symptoms of fever and upper abdominal pain and distention,which worsened at the two weeks mark along with emergence of signs of *** was managed by emergency laparotomy and cholecystostomy,allowing rapid symptom *** patient ultimately discharged and succumbed to advanced liver cancer 11 months after *** After cholecystostomy,the patient showed symptom relief and was discharged,surviving 11 months post-stage IIIB liver cancer diagnosis.

Objective: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) is one of the most important life-saving procedures in the hospital. Contrary to medical guidelines, family presence during CPR is still not accepted in some countries. Family presence during CPR depends on the nurses' attitude, which is influenced by various factors. Determination of 4-nonylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol compounds in various types of wastewater and their removal rates in different treatment processes in nine wastewater treatment plants of Iran

Alkylphenols(APs), considered as xenoestrogenic compounds, mainly exist as 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) and 4-tertoctylphenol(4-t-OP) in environments. The high stability and accumulation of APs in aquatic systems have caused endocrine disruption. In this study we measured APs in the wastewater influent and effluent samples, from the urban, rural, livestock, commercial and hospital wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was used for the extraction and determination of 4-NP and 4-t-OP. In these treatment plants, various processes such as activated sludge, aerated lagoon, moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge along with wetland were applied. The highest concentration of 4-NP and 4-t-OP was observed in commercial and livestock sewages. The activated sludge along with wetland and then the MBBR process showed the highest removal rates of pollutants. The rates of biodegradability and accumulation in sludge were determined and also the specific adsorption coefficient Kdand the organic carbon–water partition coefficient kOCof the sludge for APs were calculated.
