Detailed seismic zoning of the East Kazakhstan region in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is currently drafting new construction regulations that comply with the major provisions of the Eurocodes.Such regulations are created on the basis of seismic zoning maps of various degrees of detail,developed by our institute of seismology using a new methodological approach for Kazakhstan.The article is about creating the first normative map of the Detailed Seismic Zoning on a probabilistic foundation for the Republic of Kazakhstan’s East Kazakhstan region.We carried out the probabilistic assessment of seismic hazard using a methodology consistent with the main provisions of Eurocode 8and updated compared with that used in developing maps of Kazakhstan’s General Seismic Zoning and seismic microzoning of Almaty.The most thorough and current data accessible for the area under consideration were combined with contemporary analytical techniques.Updates have been done to not only the databases being used but also the way seismic sources were shown,including active faults now.On a scale of 1:1000000,precise seismic zoning maps of the East Kazakhstan region were created for two probabilities of exceedance:10%and 2%in 50 years in terms of peak ground accelerations and macroseismic intensities.The obtained seismic hazard distribution is generally consistent with the General Seismic Zoning of Kazakhstan’s previous findings.However,because active faults were included and a thoroughly revised catalog was used,there are more pronounced zones of increased danger along the fault in the western part of the region.In the west of the territory,acceleration values also increased due to a more accurate consideration of seismotectonic conditions.Zoning maps are the basis for developing new state building regulations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Background:The discovery of regulatory cell death has led to a breakthrough in the therapeutic field.Various forms of cell death,such as necrosis,apoptosis,pyroptosis,autophagy,and ferroptosis,play an important role in the development of liver diseases.In general,more than one form of cell death pathways is responsible for the disease state.Therefore,it is particularly important to study the regulation and interaction of various cell death forms in liver diseases.Data sources:We performed a PubMed search up to November 2022 with the following keywords:ferritinophagy,ferroptosis,and liver disease.We also used terms such as signal path,inducer,and inhibitor to supplement the query results.Results:This review summarized the basic characteristics of ferritinophagy and ferroptosis and the regulation of ferroptosis by ferritinophagy and reviewed the key targets and treatment strategies of ferroptosis in different liver diseases.Conclusions:Ferritinophagy is a potential therapeutic target in ferroptosis-related liver diseases.

Cancer cachexia:Focus on cachexia factors and inter-organ communication

Cancer cachexia is a multi-organ syndrome and closely related to changes in signal communication between organs,which is mediated by cancer cachexia factors.Cancer cachexia factors,being the general name of inflammatory factors,circulating proteins,metabolites,and microRNA secreted by tumor or host cells,play a role in secretory or other organs and mediate complex signal communication between organs during cancer cachexia.Cancer cachexia factors are also a potential target for the diagnosis and treatment.The pathogenesis of cachexia is unclear and no clear effective treatment is available.Thus,the treatment of cancer cachexia from the perspective of the tumor ecosystem rather than from the perspective of a single molecule and a single organ is urgently needed.From the point of signal communication between organs mediated by cancer cachexia factors,finding a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis,diagnosis,and treatment of cancer cachexia is of great significance to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment.This review begins with cancer cachexia factors released during the interaction between tumor and host cells,and provides a comprehensive summary of the pathogenesis,diagnosis,and treatment for cancer cachexia,along with a particular sight on multi-organ signal communication mediated by cancer cachexia factors.This summary aims to deepen medical community’s understanding of cancer cachexia and may conduce to the discovery of new diagnostic and therapeutic targets for cancer cachexia.

Efficacy of electroacupuncture on myocardial protection and postoperative rehabilitation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass:a systematic review and Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture(EA)intervention on myocardial protection and postoperative rehabilitation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB).METHODS:Eight databases,including Pub Med,Embase,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,Chinese Bio Medical Literature Database,China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database,Wanfang Data,China Science and Technology Journal Database,and two clinical trial registries,were searched.All randomized controlled trials(RCTs)related to EA intervention in cardiac surgery with CPB were collected.Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria,two researchers independently screened articles and extracted data.After the quality evaluation,RevMan 5.3 software was used for analysis.RESULTS:Fourteen RCTs involving 836 patients were included.Compared with the control treatment,EA significantly increased the incidence of cardiac automatic rebeat after aortic unclamping[relative risk(RR)=1.15,95%confidence interval(CI)(1.01,1.31),P<0.05;moderate].Twenty-four hours after aortic unclamping,EA significantly increased the superoxide dismutase[standardized mean difference(SMD)=0.96,95%CI(0.32,1.61),P<0.05;low],and interleukin(IL)-2[SMD=1.33,95%CI(0.19,2.47),P<0.05;very low]expression levels and decreased the malondialdehyde[SMD=-1.62,95%CI(-2.15,-1.09),P<0.05;moderate],tumour necrosis factor-α[SMD=-1.28,95%CI(-2.37,-0.19),P<0.05;moderate],and cardiac troponin I[SMD=-1.09,95%CI(-1.85,-0.32),P<0.05;low]expression levels as well as the inotrope scores[SMD=-0.77,95%CI(-1.22,-0.31),P<0.05;high].There was no difference in IL-6 and IL-10 expression levels.The amount of intraoperative sedative[SMD=-0.31,95%CI(-0.54,-0.09),P<0.05;moderate]and opioid analgesic[SMD=-0.96,95%CI(-1.53,-0.38),P<0.05;low]medication was significantly lower in the EA group than in the control group.Moreover,the postoperative tracheal intubation time[SMD=-0.92,95%CI(-1.40,-0.45),P<0.05;low]and intensive care unit stay[SMD=-1.71,95%CI(-3.06,-0.36),P<0.05;low]were significan

Thermodynamic nature of black holes in coexistence region

Studying the system state of coexistence regions will peek into to reveal microscopic interactions between different phases of a thermodynamic system.However,there is no effective method to study thermodynamic nature of the coexistence black hole regions for the failure of the equation of state.Aiming at these coexistence states,in this work,we develop a general approach by introducing two new ratio parameters.The first one is the ratio of the horizon radii of the saturated coexistence small and large black holes,and the second one measures that of the small black hole molecule number to the total molecule number.We demonstrate that the first parameter can serve as an order parameter to characterize the first-order phase transition.The study also shows that the black hole state in the coexistence region is uniquely determined by these two introduced parameters bounded between 0 and 1.These results are quite significant in the analytical study of phase transition and the microscopic nature of black hole in the coexistence regions.

Cadaverine and putrescine exposure influence carbon and nitrogen cycling genes in water and sediment of the Yellow River

The response patterns of microbial functional genes involved in biogeochemical cycles to cadaver decay is a central topic of recent environmental sciences.However,the response mechanisms and pathways of the functional genes associated with the carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)cycling to cadaveric substances such as cadaverine and putrescine remain unclear.This study explored the variation of functional genes associated with C fixation,C degradation and N cycling and their influencing factors under cadaverine,putrescine and mixed treatments.Our results showed only putrescine significantly increased the alpha diversity of C fixation genes,while reducing the alpha diversity of N cycling genes in sediment.For the C cycling,the mixed treatment significantly decreased the total abundance of reductive acetyl-CoA pathway genes(i.e.,acsB and acsE)and lig gene linked to lignin degradation in water,while only significantly increasing the hydroxypropionate-hydroxybutylate cycle(i.e.,accA)gene abundance in sediment.For the N cycling,mixed treatment significantly decreased the abundance of the nitrification(i.e.,amoB),denitrification(i.e.,nirS3)genes in water and the assimilation pathway gene(i.e.,gdhA)in sediment.Environmental factors(i.e.,total carbon and total nitrogen)were all negatively associated with the genes of C and N cycling.Therefore,cadaverine and putrescine exposure may inhibit the pathway in C fixation and N cycling,while promoting C degradation.These findings can offer some new insight for the management of amine pollution caused by animal cadavers.

Exploration of the coupled lattice Boltzmann model based on a multiphase field model:A study of the solid-liquid-gas interaction mechanism in the solidification process

A multiphase field model coupled with a lattice Boltzmann(PF-LBM)model is proposed to simulate the distribution mechanism of bubbles and solutes at the solid-liquid interface,the interaction between dendrites and bubbles,and the effects of different temperatures,anisotropic strengths and tilting angles on the solidified organization of the SCN-0.24wt.%butanedinitrile alloy during the solidification process.The model adopts a multiphase field model to simulate the growth of dendrites,calculates the growth motions of dendrites based on the interfacial solute equilibrium;and adopts a lattice Boltzmann model(LBM)based on the Shan-Chen multiphase flow to simulate the growth and motions of bubbles in the liquid phase,which includes the interaction between solid-liquid-gas phases.The simulation results show that during the directional growth of columnar dendrites,bubbles first precipitate out slowly at the very bottom of the dendrites,and then rise up due to the different solid-liquid densities and pressure differences.The bubbles will interact with the dendrite in the process of flow migration,such as extrusion,overflow,fusion and disappearance.In the case of wide gaps in the dendrite channels,bubbles will fuse to form larger irregular bubbles,and in the case of dense channels,bubbles will deform due to the extrusion of dendrites.In the simulated region,as the dendrites converge and diverge,the bubbles precipitate out of the dendrites by compression and diffusion,which also causes physical phenomena such as fusion and spillage of the bubbles.These results reveal the physical mechanisms of bubble nucleation,growth and kinematic evolution during solidification and interaction with dendrite growth.

Highly strengthening and toughening biomimetic ceramic structures fabricated via a novel coaxially printing

Additive manufacturing technology,by manipulating and emulating inherent multiscale,multi-material,and multifunctional structures found in nature,has created new opportunities for constructing heterogeneous structures associated with special properties and achieving ultra-high mechanical performance and reliability in ceramic composite materials.In this study,we have developed an innovative fabrication method designated as coaxial 3D printing for the synchronous construction of two constituents into ceramic composites with a tooth enamel biomimetic microstructure.Herein,the stiff silicate and flexible epoxy served as a strengthening bridge and toughening layer,respectively.The method differed from the traditional approach of randomly dispersing reinforcing components within a ceramic matrix.It allowed for the direct creation of an internally effective three-dimensional reinforcement network structure in ceramic composites.This process facilitated synergistic deformation and simultaneous enhancement of multiple materials and hierarchical structures.Owing to the uniform distribution of internal stress and effective block of microcrack propagation,the biomimetically structured silicate/epoxy ceramic composite has demonstrated much significant enhancement in mechanical properties,includingcompressive strength(48.8±3.12MPa),flexuralstrength(10.39±1.23MPa),andflexuraltoughness(218.7±54.6kJ/m^(3)),which was 0.5,2.1,and 47.5 times as high as those of the intrinsic brittle silicate ceramics,respectively.In-situ characterization and multiscale finite element simulation of microstructural evolution during three-point bending deformation further validated multiple-step features of the fracture process(silicate bridge fracture,interface detachment,epoxy extraction,and rupture),which benefited from interpenetrating structural features achieved by coaxial printing to accomplish with the complex propagating routines of the crack deflection in silicate ceramic composites.This coaxial 3D printing method paves the way for tailored

Facile synthesis of NiMn2S4 nanoflakes on nickel foam for high-performance aqueous asymmetric supercapacitors

Supercapacitors display promising electrochemical performance with high power density and excellent cycle stability.However,their low energy density limits their advancement in a broader range of applications.To enhance their energy density,we proposed self-assembled spinel NiMn2S4nanoflakes grown on nickel foam which we successfully prepared by a facile hydrothermal method.The NiMn2S4electrode delivers a high capacitance of 2096.7 F g^(-1)at 1.0 A g^(-1),with an exceptional rate capability(~720.6 F g^(-1)at a very high current density of 100 A g^(-1))and good cycle stability(~85.1%retention of the initial capacitance after 7000 cycles with the Coulombic efficiency around 100%).The as-fabricated asymmetric supercapacitors based on NiMn2S4nanoflakes//active carbon demonstrate an energy density of 73.6 W h kg^(-1)at 800.5 W kg^(-1)and adequate cycling performance of~84.6%capacitance retention at 15 A g^(-1)after 10000 cycles.The results reveal that the nanostructured NiMn2S4is an excellent electrode material for high-performance energy storage applications.

New strategies for asymmetric photocatalysis: asymmetric organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis for efficient synthesis of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols

An asymmetric catalytic strategy in photocatalysis utilizing a chirality-induced approach through an organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis strategy is successfully achieved for the rapid construction of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols in a one-pot protocol. This methodology facilitates the efficient synthesis of diverse substituted polycyclic tetrahydroquinoline and benzofuran-derived vicinal amino alcohols, each containing five consecutive chiral centers, with high yields,excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities(up to 95% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee), under mild reaction conditions driven by sequential bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst-catalyzed [4+2] annulation and photocatalyst-catalyzed ketyl radical addition cyclization reaction process. Furthermore, investigations into the stereoselectivity mechanism and high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS) experiments on free radical trapping have provided evidence for elucidating the detailed mechanism of chirality-induced processes and chiral intermediate conversions in this procedure.
