Nanoparticle-based disease detection, prevention and therapies have gained increased interests in biomedical applications, owing to their significant advantages in therapeutic efficacy and safety. Nonetheless, suffering from the challenges including fast recognition and clearance of foreign nanoparticles by innate immune system before arriving at diseased regions, clinical applications of nanoparticles are usually intercepted. Among various strategies for reducing non-specific phagocytosis and enhancing diseasetargeting efficiency of nanoparticles, membrane coating nanotechnology exhibits great potential in the disease diagnosis and therapeutics due to both the structural and functional preservation of membrane proteins from source cells. Benefiting the inherited immune-regulation capacities, this review mainly summarized the latest development of such biomimetic nanoparticles for immunotherapy in treating immune-related diseases including microbial infections, inflammation, tumor and autoimmune diseases.

Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)are a leading factor driving mortality ***,an essential trace mineral,is important in numerous biological processes,and its role in CVDs has raised broad discussion for ***-mediated cell death,namely ferroptosis,has attracted much attention due to its critical role in cardiomyocyte damage and ***,ferritinophagy is the upstream mechanism that induces ferroptosis,and is closely related to *** review aims to delineate the processes and mechanisms of ferroptosis and ferritinophagy,and the regulatory pathways and molecular targets involved in ferritinophagy,and to determine their roles in ***,we discuss the possibility of targeting ferritinophagy-induced ferroptosis modulators for treating ***,this review offers some new insights into the pathology of CVDs and identifies possible therapeutic targets.

The Co-based catalysts were prepared with different cobalt acetate solutions. Effects of pH value were studied deeply on Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) through a semi-batch reactor. Among all impregnation solutions (water, butanol, amyl alcohol, acetic acid, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate), the catalyst prepared by NH4NO3solution showed the highest catalytic activity due to its small particle size and high reduction degree. However, the catalyst with the smallest particle size derived from water as impregnation solution exhibited low activity as well as high methane selectivity since it was difficult to be reduced and inactive in FTS. According to FT-IR spectra results, the low intensity of absorbed CO on the catalyst prepared from water solution resulted in low FTS activity. Whereas, the high activity of catalysts prepared from NH4NO3solution could be explained by the high intensity of absorbed CO on the catalysts. The cobalt species on the catalysts prepared under lower pH conditions exhibited smaller particle size distribution as well as lower CO conversion than those prepared at higher pH value. © 2016 Science Press

Oral diseases have emerged as one of the leading public health challenges *** the existing clinical modalities for restoration of dental tissue loss and craniomaxillofacial injuries can achieve satisfactory therapeutic results,they cannot fully restore the original complex anatomical structure and physiological function of the tissue.3D printing of biological tissues has gained growing interest in the field of oral medicine with the ability to control the bioink component and printing structure for spatially heterogeneous repairing constructs,holding enormous promise for the precise treatment of oral ***,collagen-based materials have been recognized as promising biogenic bioinks for the regeneration of several tissues with high cell-activating and biocompatible *** this review,we summarize 3D printing methods for collagen-based biomaterials and their ***,we highlight the animal sources of collagen and their characteristics,as well as the methods of collagen ***,this review provides an overview of the 3D bioprinting technology for the regeneration of the pulpal nerve and blood vessels,cartilage,and periodontal *** envision that this technique opens up immense opportunities over the conventional ones,with high replicability and customized function,which can ultimately promote effective oral tissue regeneration.

Engineering microscale systems for fully autonomous intracellular neural interfaces

Conventional electrodes and associated positioning systems for intracellular recording from single neurons in vitro and in vivo are large and bulky,which has largely limited their ***,acquiring successful intracellular recordings is very tedious,requiring a high degree of skill not readily achieved in a typical *** report here a robotic,MEMS-based intracellular recording system to overcome the above limitations associated with form factor,scalability,and highly skilled and tedious manual operations required for intracellular *** system combines three distinct technologies:(1)novel microscale,glass–polysilicon penetrating electrode for intracellular recording;(2)electrothermal microactuators for precise microscale movement of each electrode;and(3)closed-loop control algorithm for autonomous positioning of electrode inside single *** we demonstrate the novel,fully integrated system of glass–polysilicon microelectrode,microscale actuators,and controller for autonomous intracellular recordings from single neurons in the abdominal ganglion of Aplysia californica(n=5 cells).Consistent resting potentials(60 mV)were recorded after each successful penetration attempt with the controller and microactuated glass–polysilicon *** success rate of penetration and quality of intracellular recordings achieved using electrothermal microactuators were comparable to that of conventional positioning *** data from in vivo experiments in anesthetized rats show successful intracellular *** MEMS-based system offers significant advantages:(1)reduction in overall size for potential use in behaving animals,(2)scalable approach to potentially realize multi-channel recordings,and(3)a viable method to fully automate measurement of intracellular *** system will be evaluated in vivo in future rodent studies.

Food processing facilities often use antimicrobial quaternary ammonium compound （QAC） sanitizers to maintain cleanliness. These QACs can end up in wastewaters used as feedstock for anaerobic digestion. The aim of this study was to measure the effect of QAC contamination on biogas production and structure of microbial communities in thermo- philic digester sludge. Methane production and biogas quality data were analyzed in batch anaerobic digesters containing QAC at 0, 15, 50, 100 and 150 mg/L. Increasing sanitizer concentration in the bioreactors negatively impacted methane production rate and biogas quality. Microbial community composition data was obtained through 16S rRNA gene sequencing from the QAG-contaminated sludges. Sequencing data showed no significant restructuring of the bacterial communities. However, significant restructuring was observed within the archaeal communities as QAC concentration increased. Further studies to confirm these effects on a larger scale and with a longer retention time are necessary.
