Introduction:The Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)demonstrates increased transmissibility compared to earlier strains,contributing to a significant number of fatalities in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR),*** medical resources and medications are essential in mitigating these *** study evaluates the effects of supplementary resources from the Chinese mainland during the fifth wave of the pandemic in ***:Vector autoregression(VAR)was employed to analyze data from the Oxford coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)Government Response Tracker to assess the effectiveness of control measures during five waves of the pandemic in ***,a transmission dynamics model was created to investigate the influence of supplementary medical resources from the Chinese mainland and oral medications on ***:In the initial four waves,workplace closures,restrictions on public events,international travel bans,and shielding the elderly significantly influenced pandemic ***,during the fifth wave,these measures showed no notable *** comparing a situation without extra medical resources or COVID-19 oral medication,there was a 17.7%decrease in COVID-19 fatalities with mainland medical resources and an additional 10.2%reduction with oral ***,they contributed to a 26.6%decline in ***:With the rapid spread of the virus,regional reallocation of medical resources may reduce mortality even when the local healthcare system is overstretched.

SARS-CoV-2 has caused global waves of infection since December 2019 and continues to persist today. The emergence of SARS-CoV-2variants with strong immune evasion capabilities has compromised the effectiveness of existing vaccines against breakthrough ***, it is important to determine the best utilization strategies for different demographic groups given the variety of vaccine options available. In this review, we will discuss the protective efficacy of vaccines during different stages of the epidemic and emphasize the importance of timely updates to target prevalent variants, which can significantly improve immune protection. While it is recognized that vaccine effectiveness may be lower in certain populations such as the elderly, individuals with chronic comorbidities (e.g., diabetes with poor blood glucose control, those on maintenance dialysis), or those who are immunocompromised compared to the general population,administering multiple doses can result in a strong protective immune response that outweighs potential risks. However, caution should be exercised when considering vaccines that might trigger an intense immune response in populations prone to inflammatory flare or other complications. In conclusion, individuals with special conditions require enhanced and more effective immunization strategies to prevent infection or reinfection, as well as to avoid the potential development of long COVID.

Objective Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection is common and can develop to serious conditions with high mortality,yet the mechanism of HAdV infection remains *** the present study,the serum metabolite profiles of HAdV-7-infected patients with pneumonia or upper respiratory tract infection(URTI)were *** In total,35 patients were enrolled in the study following an outbreak of HAdV-7 in the army,of whom 14 had pneumonia and 21 had *** samples were collected at the acute stage and at the recovery stage and were analyzed by untargeted *** Over 90% of the differential metabolites identified between the pneumonia patients and URTI patients were lipids and lipid-like molecules,including glycerophospholipids,fatty acyls,and *** metabolic pathways that were significantly enriched were primarily the lipid metabolism pathways,including sphingolipid metabolism,glycerophospholipid metabolism,and linoleic acid *** sphingolipid metabolism was identified as a significantly differential pathway between the pneumonia patients and URTI patients and between the acute and recovery stages for the pneumonia patients,but not between the acute and recovery stages for the URTI *** and lactosylceramide,involved in sphingolipid metabolism,were significantly higher in the pneumonia patients than in the URTI patients with good discrimination abilities[area under curve(AUC)0.742 and 0.716,respectively;combination AUC 0.801].Conclusion Our results suggested that HAdV modulated lipid metabolism for both the patients with URTI and pneumonia,especially the sphingolipid metabolism involving ceramide and lactosylceramide,which might thus be a potential intervention target in the treatment of HAdV infection.
