Parkinson’s disease is a common neurodegenerative disease with movement disorders associated with the intracytoplasmic deposition of aggregate proteins such asα-synuclein in *** one of the major intracellular degradation pathways,the autophagy-lysosome pathway plays an important role in eliminating these *** evidence has shown that upregulation of the autophagy-lysosome pathway may contribute to the clearance ofα-synuclein aggregates and protect against degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson’s ***,multiple genes associated with the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease are intimately linked to alterations in the autophagy-lysosome ***,this pathway appears to be a promising therapeutic target for treatment of Parkinson’s *** this review,we briefly introduce the machinery of ***,we provide a description of the effects of Parkinson’s disease–related genes on the autophagy-lysosome ***,we highlight the potential chemical and genetic therapeutic strategies targeting the autophagy–lysosome pathway and their applications in Parkinson’s disease.

Age-related hearing loss (AHL), or presbycusis, is the most common neurodegenerative disorder and top communication deficit of the aged population. genetic predisposition is one of the major factors in the development of AHL. Generally, AHL is associated with an age-dependent loss of sensory hair cells, spiral ganglion neurons and stria vascularis cells in the inner ear. Although the mechanisms leading to genetic hearing loss are not completely understood, caspase-family proteases function as important signals in the inner ear pathology. It is now accepted that mouse models are the best tools to study the mechanism of genetic hearing loss or AHL. Here, we provide a brief review of recent studies on hearing improvement in mouse models of AHL by anti-apoptotic treatment.

Whole-genome duplication(WGD) events are widespread across eukaryotes and have played a significant role in moulding the genetic architectures of diverse organisms. In the present study, the newly sequenced genome of a giant ciliated protist, Stentor roeselii, provides an opportunity for the analysis of the collinearity and retention of reciprocal best-hit genes between two Stentor species. As a main result, we have unveiled a previously undetected ancient WGD event shaping the genome of its congener, Stentor coeruleus, a model protist used in cytological and evolutionary studies. Genomes of two congeners, S. coeruleus and S. roeselii, are compared and analyzed, revealing that:(i)the former exhibits a much higher retention rate of colinear-gene pairs(28%) than does S. roeselii, and in S. coeruleus, 75% of genes that have a RBH hit in S. roeselii, have paralogs with high amino-acid identity, consistent with a WGD event in the lineage leading to S. coeruleus;(ii) the S. roeselii genome possesses extremely short intergenic regions, implying that the lengths of intergenic regions are under strong selection;(iii) the unique characteristics of introns may have been shaped in the common ancestor of heterotrichs;(iv) gene families that play a role in activities of multiple protein kinases and voltage-gated ion channels expanded rapidly in the ancestor of both taxa, possibly relating to the remarkable regenerative ability in Stentor. This study offers new insights into the evolutionary dynamics of ciliate genomes,with implications for understanding of the processes underlying the evolution of genomic complexity.

In this study, we investigated the effects of exogenous calcium nitrate on photoinhibition and thylakoid protein level in peanut plants under heat （40 ℃） and high irradiance （HI）（1,200 mmol/m2 per s） stress. Compared with control seedlings （cultivated in 0 mmol/L Ca（NO3）2 medium）, the maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem II （PSII） in Ca2t‐treated plants showed a slight decrease after 5 h stress, accompanied by lower degree of PSII closure （1‐qP）, higher non‐photochemical quenching, and lower level of membrane damage. Ca2t inhibitors were used to analyze the varieties of antioxidant enzymes activity and PSII proteins. These results indicated that Ca2t could protect the subunits of PSII reaction centers from photoinhibition by reducing the generation of reactive oxygen species. In the presence of both ethyleneglycol‐bis（2‐aminoethylether）‐tetraacetic acid and ascorbic acid （AsA）, the net degradation of the damaged D1 protein was faster than that only treated with AsA. Our previous study showed that either the transcriptional or the translational level of calmodulin was obviously higher in Ca2t‐treated plants. These results suggested that, under＆amp;nbsp;heat and HI stress, the Ca2t signal transduction pathway can al eviate the photoinhibition through regulating the protein repair process besides an enhanced capacity for scavenging reactive oxygen species.

Parkinson's disease(PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and is typically associated with progressive motor and non-motor ***, dopamine replacement therapy is mainly used to relieve the motor symptoms, while its long-term application can lead to various complications and does not cure the disease. Numerous studies have demonstrated that many brain-gut peptides have neuroprotective effects in vivo and in vitro, and may be a promising treatment for PD. In recent years, some progress has been made in studies on the neuroprotective effects of some newly-discovered braingut peptides, such as glucagon-like peptide 1, pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide, nesfatin-1, and ghrelin. However, there is still no systematic review on the neuroprotective effects common to these peptides. Thus,here we review the neuroprotective effects and the associated mechanisms of these four peptides, as well as other brain-gut peptides related to PD, in the hope of providing new ideas for the treatment of PD and related clinical research.

Parkinson＇s disease （PD） is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder which mainly affects the motor system. The pathological characteristics of PD include the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra region and dopamine depletion in the striatum. Dopamine functions as a neurotransmitter that is involved in motor control, executive functions, motivation, arousal, reinforcement, and reward [1]. The ongoing tonic levels of dopamine release in the dorsal striatum are thought to be important for the regulation of movement. Because of the dopamine depletion in the striatum, movement is affected in PD. The typical motor symptoms consist of poverty of movement, tremor at rest, rigidity, and postural instability. Meanwhile, pre-motor symptoms, including hyposmia, constipation, depression, and REM sleep behavior disorder, have been suggested to precede these typical motor symptoms by years [2]. It is usually proposed to alleviate these symptoms via boosting the levels of dopamine in PD. However, this may not be the case.

A decline in the activities of oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS)complexes has been consistently reported in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)patients and animal models of ALS,although the underlying molecular mechanisms are still ***,we report that receptor expression enhancing protein 1(REEP1)acts as an important regulator of complex IV assembly,which is pivotal to preserving motor neurons in SOD1^(G93A) *** found the expression of REEP1 was greatly reduced in transgenic SOD1^(G93A) mice with ***,forced expression of REEP1 in the spinal cord extended the lifespan,decelerated symptom progression,and improved the motor performance of SOD1^(G93A) *** neuromuscular synaptic loss,gliosis,and even motor neuron loss in SOD1^(G93A) mice were alleviated by increased REEP1 through augmentation of mitochondrial ***,REEP1 associates with NDUFA4,and plays an important role in preserving the integrity of mitochondrial complex *** findings offer insights into the pathogenic mechanism of REEP1 deficiency in neurodegenerative diseases and suggest a new therapeutic target for ALS.

The application of neurotrophic factors （NTFs） is a promising therapeutic strategy for neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson＇s disease （PD）. Many NTFs have been reported to enhance the survival, regeneration, and differentiation of neurons and to induce synaptic plasticity. However, because of their potential side-effects and low efficacy after clinical administration, more potent treatments for neurodegenerative disorders are being sought. Cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor （CDNF）, a newly-identified NTF homologous to mesencephalic astrocyte-derived NTF, is structurally and functionally different from other NTFs, providing new hope especially for PD patients. In various animal models of PD, CDNF is efficient in protecting and repairing dopaminergic neurons, and it inhibits endoplasmic reticulum stress, neuroinflam- mation, and apoptosis. Recent progress in all facets of CDNF research has enabled researchers to better under- stand its beneficial effects in the treatment of PD.

Increased salinity and groundwater levels lead to degradation of the Robinia pseudoacacia forest in the Yellow River Delta

Forest degradation is a worldwide problem,although its causes vary due to geographical and climatic differences and man-made *** recent years,the Robinia pseudoacacia forest in the Yellow River Delta has suffered severe *** causative mechanisms were investigated in the field over two years,and the results show that increased forest degradation was reflected by increased tree mortality,high leaf and soil sodium salt levels and groundwater *** tree diameters decreased,and leaf chlorophyll and soil microbial contents *** discriminate analysis(RDA)showed that degradation of the forest was correlated positively with soil salt content,but negatively with groundwater *** analysis showed that 0.79%–0.95%soil salt content and above 1.20 m groundwater depth caused the death of *** trees due to localized anthropogenic economic activities,such as rice farming,that disrupted the original water–salt *** are recommended to prevent further degradation and restore degraded forests.
