In the regime of weak nonlinearity we present two general,feasible schemes for manipulating photon *** is an entangler for generating any one of the n-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ)*** of the incoming photons with crossKerr media followed by a phase shift gate and a measurement on a probe beam plus appropriate local operations using classical feed-forward of the measurement results allow one to obtain the desired states in a nearly deterministic *** second scheme discussed is an analyzer for multiphoton maximally entangled states,which is derived from the above *** this scheme,all of the 2nn-photon GHZ states can,nearly deterministically,be discriminated.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) mediated by plant extracts has drawn many research interests due to its simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly approach. However, the extracts derived from phytoestrogenic plants that produce high phenolic-based compounds exhibiting the estrogenic activity have not yet investigated. This work reported the comparison of ethanolic extracts derived from phytoestogenic Dendrolobium lanceolatum and non-phytoestrogenic Raphanus sativus to facilitate the green synthesis of AgNPs. The total phenolic content and the reducing activity of D. lanceolatum extract were significantly higher than those of R. sativus extract. In addition, the formation of AgNPs could detect in the reaction using D. lanceolatum extract, but not R. sativus extract, as determined by the characteristic surface plasmon resonance peak of AgNPs at 416 nm. The synthesized AgNPs were spherical with an average diameter of 74.6017.11 nm, which their face-centered cubic structure of silver was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Moreover, the synthesized AgNPs exhibited the antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus. The results of this work, thus, suggested the potential uses of phytoestrogenic plants as a good source of reducing and stabilizing agents for the production of AgNPs and other metallic nanoparticles.

Language, reading, and reading-related tasks were administered to 148 children from lower primary （Standard 1, 2, and 3） in Kenyan schools. The aim was to investigate the literacy developmental trends across the years and establish which of the two variables, word identification skills or target language oral proficiency influenced reading comprehension performance. The results indicated that word identification skills independently influenced reading comprehension performance in both standard 2 and standard 3 classes, but target language oral skills did not. Further, the analysis of invented spelling task performance revealed evidence of transfer of alphabetic coding skills of first language to English orthography. The spelling errors reflected letter-sound patterns not found in English orthography. Analysis of the miscues in the spelling task revealed that children rely on first language phonological processes to spell target language unfamiliar words as long the languages have a common alphabetic system.

A statistical thermodynamic theory of linear protein solutions was proposed with the aid of a lattice model and applied to type Ⅰ antifreeze protein（AFPI） *** numerical results for several AFPI solutions show that the Gibbs function of the solution has a minimum at a certain protein concentration,but the protein chemical potential increases with increasing the *** influences of temperature and protein chain length on the AFPI chemical potential were also *** evaluation for the colligative depression of the freezing point confirms that the antifreeze action should be recognized as *** theoretical deduction for the concentration dependence of the thermal hysteresis activity coincides qualitatively with the previous experimental and theoretical results.

I present some preliminary results on how the classroom narratives in chemistry are interconnected to the teachers life histories and why chemistry teachers use narratives. The results are based on two rounds of interviews with Swedish chemistry teachers in upper secondary school. Tentative results suggested that these teachers used narratives as a tool for teaching and to promote learning, although in different ways. It is suggested that we understand concepts better if we are introduced to them in narrative discourse. Using narratives also seems to promote a plurality of emphases in teaching.

Oxidation state specific analysis of arsenic species in tissues of wild-type and arsenic(+3 oxidation state)methyltransferase-knockout mice

Arsenic methyltransferase（As3mt） catalyzes the conversion of inorganic arsenic（i As） to its methylated metabolites, including toxic methylarsonite（MAs~Ⅲ） and dimethylarsinite（DMAs~Ⅲ）. Knockout（KO） of As3 mt was shown to reduce the capacity to methylate i As in mice. However, no data are available on the oxidation states of As species in tissues of these mice. Here, we compare the oxidation states of As species in tissues of male C57BL/6 As3mt-KO and wild-type（WT） mice exposed to arsenite（iA s~Ⅲ） in drinking water. WT mice were exposed to50 mg/L As and As3mt-KO mice that cannot tolerate 50 mg/L As were exposed to 0, 15, 20, 25 or30 mg/L As. iA s~Ⅲaccounted for 53% to 74% of total As in liver, pancreas, adipose, lung, heart, and kidney of As3mt-KO mice; tri- and pentavalent methylated arsenicals did not exceed 10% of total As. Tissues of WT mice retained iA s and methylated arsenicals： iA s~Ⅲ, MAs~Ⅲand DMAs~Ⅲ represented 55%‐68% of the total As in the liver, pancreas, and brain. High levels of methylated species, particularly MAs~Ⅲ, were found in the intestine of WT, but not As3mt-KO mice,suggesting that intestinal bacteria are not a major source of methylated As. Blood of WT mice contained significantly higher levels of As than blood of As3mt-KO mice. This study is the first to determine oxidation states of As species in tissues of As3mt-KO mice. Results will help to design studies using WT and As3mt-KO mice to examine the role of iA s methylation in adverse effects of iA s exposure.
