The surveillance of arsenic levels in the drinking water of primary schools and the assessment of the potential cancer-related health risks of children in Multan, Pakistan

To investigate the levels of arsenic(As)in the groundwater and drinking water of primary schools and their potential impact on human health is main objective of this *** assess risk,the following parameters i.e.,carcinogenic indices(CI),hazardous indexes(HI),carcinogenic risk(CR),and hazardous quotient(HQ)have been measured for both dermal and oral arsenic *** study has been focused on primary schools located in four tehsils of Multan,where water samples were *** levels,with concentrations ranging from 3.31 to 191 mg/l,exceeding the safe limit set by the World Health Organization(WHO)have been detected in 99.9%of the *** results show that arsenic content ranged from 3.31 to 191 mg/l,with 99.9%of the samples exceeding the World Health Organization's safe limit of 10 mg/*** CR and CI exceeded the USEPA limit of 10–6 in all four tehsils ranged from 2.6×10^(-6) to 9.4×10^(-6) and 0.00023 to 0.0009 respectively in both dermal and oral cases.,Multan Sadar(1.51,1.39)and Multan City(1.76,1.71)exhibited HI and HQ values that surpassed the threshold of 1.0,signaling a significant likelihood of chronic and cancer-causing health consequences for individuals who are exposed to polluted water causing *** findings suggest that the groundwater in the Multan district poses a significant health risk to humans due to high levels of arsenic *** contamination is associated with an increased risk of mortality from internal cancers(including liver,kidney,lung,and bladder),as well as a higher HI&CI incidence of skin ***,pregnancy outcomes are affected,with associations found between arsenic exposure and lower birth weight,and infant *** researchers propose that water supply organizations and educational institutions promptly take measures to ensure that the affected areas have access to arsenic-free drinking water for the well-being of students and residents.

Impaired Spatial Firing Representations of Neurons in the Medial Entorhinal Cortex of the Epileptic Rat Using Microelectrode Arrays

Association of miR-499 rs3746444, miR-149 rs2292832 polymorphisms and their expression levels with helicobacter pylori-related gastric diseases and Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes

OBJECTIVE: To provide an objective experimental basis for the gastric mucosa pathological evolution and the transformation of different Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndromes in helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-related gastric diseases(HPGD) patients, based on the combination of TCM syndrome differentiation, molecular biology and ***: A total of 203 participants were enrolled in this study. The expressions of miR-499/miR-149 and *** infection in the gastric tissues from all participants were detected. The genotyping for miR-499 rs3746444 and miR-149 rs2292832 was ***: In H. pylori positive subjects, the proportion of precancerous gastric lesions(PGL) in liver-stomach disharmony syndrome(LSDS) group was higher than in spleen Qi deficiency syndrome(SQDS) group(P chronic inflammation group,PGL group and GC group(all P < 0.05). Test for trend showed that GC risk was on a rising trend with the increasing expression of miR-499 and decreasing expression of miR-149(both P for trend < 0.05).CONCLUSION: The C allele of miR-149 rs2292832 may be a protective factor for gastric mucosal atrophy. *** may participate in the evolution of benign to malignant gastric mucosa lesions by inducing the overexpression of miR-499 and down regulation of miR-149. In addition, patients with H. pylori infection combined SQDS or LSDS may have higher risk of gastric mucosal malignant lesions.

Atorvastatin, etanercept and the nephrogenic cardiac sympathetic remodeling in chronic renal failure rats

BACKGROUND chronic renal failure(CRF) patients are predisposed to arrhythmias, while the detailed mechanisms are unclear. We hypothesized the chronic inflammatory state of CRF patients may lead to cardiac sympathetic remodeling, increasing the incidence of ventricular arrhythmia(VA) and sudden cardiac death. And explored the role of atorvastatin and etanercept in this *** A total of 48 rats were randomly divided into sham operation group(Sham group), CRF group, CRF + atorvastatin group(CRF + statin group), and CRF + etanercept group(CRF + rhTNFR-Fcgroup). Sympathetic nerve remodeling was assessed by immunofluorescence of growth-associated protein 43(GAP-43) and tyrosine hydroxylase positive area fraction. Electrophysiological testing was performed to assess the incidence of VA by assessing the ventricular effective refractory period and ventricular fibrillation threshold. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) and interleukin-1beta were determined by Western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** Echocardiogram showed that compared with the Sham group, left ventricular end-systolic diameter and ventricular weight/body weight ratio were significantly higher in the CRF group. Hematoxylin-eosin and Masson staining indicated that myocardial fibers were broken, disordered, and fibrotic in the CRF group. Western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,immunofluorescence and electrophysiological examination suggested that compared with the Sham group, GAP-43 and TNF-α proteins were significantly upregulated, GAP-43 and tyrosine hydroxylase positive nerve fiber area was increased, and ventricular fibrillation threshold was significantly decreased in the CRF group.
