Comparing Immature Development and Life History Traits in Two Coexisting Host-feeding Parasitoids, Diglyphus isaea and Neochrysocharis formosa(Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)

Coexisting natural enemies that share a common host resource in the same guild usually exhibit variation in their life history traits, due to their need to share a similar ecological niche. In this study, we compared the immature development times and adult life history traits of two coexisting, host-feeding parasitoids, Diglyphus isaea Walker and Neochrysocharis formosa Westwood(Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), of which both attack larvae of the same agromyzid leafminers. T hese two species are both synovigenic, idiobiont parasitoids, whose adults consume host fluids("host feeding") and lay anhydropic eggs. Of the two, D. isaea has a larger body but little or no initial egg load, and engages in similar lifetime host-feeding events. However, it achieves higher fecundity, longer adult longevity, and higher host suppression ability than N. formosa, which has a smaller body and higher initial egg load. Although D. isaea engages in similar lifetime host-feeding events with N. formosa, all of its gains in life history traits per host-feeding event of D. isaea were larger than those of N. formosa. The age-specific fecundity and host mortality curves of N. formosa were more skewed in early life than those of D. isaea. In addition, the ovigeny index of N. formosa was negatively correlated to body size. Our results confirmed that two coexisting parasitoids, which share the same host resource, show different immature development patterns and life history traits, suggesting that different resource allocation mode could be a general rule of coexisting species sharing the same habitat or host.

Sublethal exposure to spinetoram impacts life history traits and dengue virus replication in Aedes aegypti

insecticides are anthropogenic environmental stressors and also a common stressor for mosquito ***,the use of insecticides is often guided by short-term efficacy,and the sublethal effect on their target or nontarget species has long been ***,we analyzed how sublethal exposure of the promising vector-control bioinsecticide spinetoram to Aedes aegypti larvae alter adult performance and susceptibility to dengue virus(DENV)*** found that the surviving adult mosquitoes were significantly smaller and exhibited weaker blood-feeding capacity than control females,apart from the extended immature development *** terms of reproductive potential,although the F_(0) generation produced a similar number of eggs and offspring during the first gonotrophic cycle,the survival rates of the F_(1) generations were significantly lower as compared to the control group,suggesting transgenerational sublethal effects on the F_(1) ***,surviving adult females had higher DENV-2 viral loads than the control group after spinetoram sublethal ***,transcriptomic analysis showed that inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation may function in stimulating DENV production in adult *** Aag2 cells,significant accumulation of apoptosis,mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production,and DENV-2 replication by spinetoram exposure consistently support our *** study highlights the threat of sublethal spinetoram exposure on outbreaks of mosquito-borne viruses.

Transplacental induction of fatty acid oxidation in term fetal pigs by the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha agonist clofibrate

Background： To induce peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor α（PPARα） expression and increase milk fat utilization in pigs at birth, the effect of maternal feeding of the PPARα agonist, clofibrate（2-（4-chlorophenoxy）-2-methyl-propanoic acid, ethyl ester）, on fatty acid oxidation was examined at ful-term delivery（0 h） and 24 h after delivery in this *** group of pigs（n = 10） was delivered from pregnant sows fed a commercial diet with or without 0.8% clofibrate for the last 7 d of gestation. Blood samples were col ected from the utero-ovarian artery of the sows and the umbilical cords of the pigs as they were removed from the sows by C-section on day 113 of ***： HPLC analysis identified that clofibric acid was present in the plasma of the clofibrate-fed sow（~4.2 μg/m L）and its offspring（~1.5 μg/m L）. Furthermore, the maternal-fed clofibrate had no impact on the liver weight of the pigs at 0 h and 24 h, but hepatic fatty acid oxidation examined in fresh homogenates showed that clofibrate increased（P 〈 0.01）^14C-accumulation in CO2 and acid soluble products 2.9-fold from [1-^14C]-oleic acid and 1.6-fold from[1-^14C]-lignoceric acid respectively. Correspondingly, clofibrate increased fetal hepatic carnitine palmitoyltransferase（CPT）and acyl-Co A oxidase（ACO） activities by 36% and 42% over controls（P 〈 0.036）. The m RNA abundance of CPT I was 20-fold higher in pigs exposed to clofibrate（P 〈 0.0001） but no differences were detected for ACO and PPARα m RNA between the two ***： These data demonstrate that dietary clofibrate is absorbed by the sow, crosses the placental membrane, and enters fetal circulation to induce hepatic fatty acid oxidation by increasing the CPT and ACO activities of the newborn.

Effects of supplemental coated or crystalline methionine in low-fishmeal diet on the growth performance and body composition of juvenile cobia Rachycentron canadum(Linnaeus)

We evaluated the effects of supplemental coated and crystalline methionine （Met） on the growth performance and feed utilization of juvenile cobia （Rachycentron canadum Linnaeus） in a 60-d feeding trial. Fish groups were fed one of six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets： 1） fishmeal control; 2） un- supplemented experimental （low-fish-meal diet deficient in Met）; or 3） one of four Met diets supplemented with crystalline L-Met, cellulose-acetate-phthalate coated L-Met, acrylic-resin coated L-Met, or tripalmitin- polyvinyl alcohol coated L-Met. The test diets were fed to triplicate groups of cobia （initial body weight 5.40-4-0.07 g） twice a day. The weight gain and specific growth rate of the fish fed the RES diet were highest among the Met-supplemented groups and were 23.64% and 7.99%, respectively, higher than those of the fish fed with the un-supplemented experimental diet （P〈0.05）. The protein efficiency ratio of the fish fed the MET diet was significantly higher than that of the fish fed the un-supplemented experimental diet and the fish in the other methionine supplementation groups （P〈0.05）. Our results suggest that supplementation of crystalline Met in low-fish-meal diets promotes the growth performance of juvenile cobia.

Effect of short neuropeptide F signaling on larval feeding in Mythimna separata

Mythimna separata is a notorious phytophagous pest which poses serious threats to cereal crops owing to the gluttony of the *** short neuropeptide F(sNPF)and its receptor sNPFR are involved in a diversity of physiological functions,especially in functions related to feeding in insects,it is a molecular target for pest ***,an sNPF and 2 sNPFRs were identified and cloned from *** analysis revealed that the sNPF and its receptors had a highly conserved RLRFamide C-terminus and 7 transmembrane domains,*** sNPF and its receptor genes were distributed across larval periods and tissues,but 2 receptors had distinct expression *** starvation-induced assay elucidated that sNPF and sNPFR expression levels were downregulated under food deprivation and recovered with subsequent *** interference knockdown of sNPF,sNPFR1,and sNPFR2 by injection of double-stranded RNA into larvae not only suppressed food consumption and increased body size and weight,but also led to decrease of glycogen and total lipid contents,and increase of trehalose compared with double-stranded green fluorescent protein ***,molecular docking was performed on the interaction mode between sNPFR protein and its ligand sNPF based on the 3-dimensional models constructed by AlphaFold;the results indicated that both receptors were presumably activated by the mature peptide *** results revealed that sNPF signaling played a considerably vital role in the feeding regulation of *** and represents a potential control target for this pest.

The ionome and proteome landscape of aging in laying hens and relation to egg white quality

The ionome is essential for maintaining body function and health status by participating in diverse key biological ***, the distribution and utilization of ionome among different organs and how aging impacts the ionome leading to a decline in egg white quality remain unknown. Thus, we used inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) to analyze 35 elements and their isotopic contents in eight organs of laying hens at 35, 72, and 100 weeks. Moreover, the magnum proteome, amino acids in egg white, and egg white quality were analyzed in laying hens at three different ages using 4D proteomics techniques, an amino acid analyzer, and an egg quality analyzer. Across the organs, we identified varying distribution patterns among macroelements(Mg24, Ca43/44, K39, and P31), transition metals(Zn64/66, Cu63/65, Fe56/57, and Mn55), and toxic elements(Pb208, Ba137, and Sr86). We observed an organ-specific aging pattern characterized by the accumulation of toxic elements(Pb208, Ba137, and Sr86) and calcification in the small intestine. Additionally, a decrease in the utilization of essential trace elements selenium(Se78/82) and manganese(Mn55) was noted in the oviduct. By analyzing ionome in tandem with egg quality, egg white amino acids, and proteome, we unveiled that the reduction of selenium and manganese concentrations in the magnum during the aging process affected amino acid metabolism, particularly tryptophan metabolism, thereby inhibiting the amino acid synthesis in the magnum. Furthermore, it accelerated the senescence of magnum cells through necroptosis activation, leading to a decline in the albumen secretion function of the magnum and subsequently reducing egg white ***, this study provides insights into the evolution of 35 elements and their isotopes across 8 organs of laying hens with *** also reveals the elemental composition, interactions, and utilization patterns of these organs, as well as their correlation with egg white

The temporal-spatial expression and functional analysis of three gustatory receptor genes in Solenopsis invicta using sweet and bitter compounds

Restricted feeding regimens improve white striping associated muscular defects in broiler chickens

The current study investigated the effects of intermittent feeding(IF)and fasting strategies at different times post–hatch on muscle growth and white striping(WS)breast *** the first trial,32 one-day-old Abor Acre broilers were fed ad libitum(AL)for 3 d post–hatch and then randomly allotted into 4 feeding strategies including AL,1h-IF group(1 h IF,4 times feeding/d,1 h each time),1.5h-IF(1.5 h IF,4 times feeding/d,1.5 h each time),and fasting(1d acute fasting,6 d free access to feed)groups and fed for 7 *** angiogenic genes including VEGFA,VEGFR1,and VEGFR2,and myogenic genes including MYOG and MYOD were upregulated(P0.05).In the second trial,384 one-day-old birds were fed AL for 1 wk and then randomly allotted to the above 4 feeding strategies starting at 8 d of age until 42 d of ***,IF and fasting strategies upregulated the expression of angiogenic and myogenic genes(P0.05).Fasting and 1h-IF reduced the expression of adipogenic genes ZNF423 and PDGFRα(P<0.05).Moreover,IF and fasting strategies reduced fibrosis in breast muscle and reduced skeletal muscle-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases(TRIM63 and MAFBX)(P<0.05).Fasting significantly reduced CASPASE-3 in breast muscle(P<0.05).In conclusion,IF starting in the first week decreases SC *** to AL,IF or fasting promotes muscular angiogenesis,increases SC number

Targeting Haemaphysalis longicornis serpin to prevent tick feeding and pathogen transmission
