Estimated Average Glandular Dose for 1,828 Mammography Procedures in China: A Multicenter Study

Objective To understand the distribution of the average glandular dose(AGD) in mammography by investigating 1,828 exposure parameters of 8 mammography machines in three cities, by using random sampling. Methods A survey of 8 mammography machines in three different cities, sampled using stratified random sampling methods, was performed, and 1,828 mammography exposure parameters were recorded. Incident air kerma(k) was measured by Quality-Assurance(QA) dosimeters, and AGD was calculated by series conversion coefficients based on a 3D detailed Monte Carlo breast model, published by Wang et al. Results The distribution of compressed breast thickness(CBT) fitted a normal distribution, while that of AGD fitted a skewed distribution. The mean value of CBT in a medio-lateral oblique(MLO) view was about 5.6% higher than that in the craniocaudal(CC) view, with significant statistical difference; mean value of AGD and CBT in the sample was 1.3 mGy and 4.6 cm, respectively. The AGD trended upward with increasing CBT, similar to the results of other researches. Conclusion The mean AGD and CBT levels in our study for mammography practice in China were 1.3 mGy and 4.6 cm, respectively. AGD is influenced by manufacturer-specific variation as machine response to CBT changes and target/filter combination. The present study can provide evidence for establishing a diagnostic reference level in China.

Acute Pesticide Poisoning in Jiangsu Province, China, from 2006 to 2015

This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of pesticide poisoning in Jiangsu Province, China, and to provide a scientific basis for developing effective interventional measures and preventive strategies. From 2006 to 2015, a total of 35,308 cases of pesticide poisoning were reported in Jiangsu Province. Non‐occupational poisoning accounted for 73.79% of all poisoning cases. A comparison of the data collected before（2006） and after（2015） this study showed a decrease in non‐occupational pesticide poisoning. Pesticide poisoning showed an age central tendency of 30 to 44 years, area central tendency for northern Jiangsu, and seasonal central tendency of occupational pesticide poisoning in autumn. Pesticide poisoning remains a major health concern in China. Government agencies together with scientists should focus their efforts on the prevention of potential threats to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children.

Dear Editor,Since August 2010,the world was in the post-pandemic period and the influenza A（H1N1）pdm09（pdmH1N1）virus co-circulated with H3N2 and B virus seasonally（WHO,2010）.The continuous surveillance on the pdmH1N1 virus in the post-pandemic period was recommended by *** order to detect unusual events that might indicate a shift in severity disease,or emergence of a new virus,we collected a total of 312 throat swabs of laboratory-confirmed pdmHlNl patients from hunan and Jilin provinces in China during January to March, 2016. Amongst them, 212 were influenza-like illness （ILI） outpatients while the remaining 100 were hospitalized patients.

Abstract Foodborne disease is one of the most important public health issues worldwide. China faces various and unprecedented challenges in all aspects of the food chain. Data from laboratory-based foodborne disease surveillance systems from 2013 to 2016, as well as different regions and ages, can be found along with differences in the patterns of pathogens detected with diverse characteristics. Vibrioparahaemolyticus has been the leading cause of infectious diarrhea in China, especially among adults in coastal regions. Salmonella has been a serious and widely distributed pathogen responsible for substantial socioeconomic burden. Shigella was mostly identified in Northwest China and the inland province （Henan） with less-developed regions among children under 5 years. Data from foodborne disease outbreak reporting system from 2011 to 2016 showed that poisonous animals and plant factors responsible for most deaths were poisonous mushrooms （54.7%） in remote districts in southwest regions. The biological hazard that caused most cases reported （42.3%） was attributed to V. parahaemolyticus, the leading cause of foodborne outbreaks. In this review, we summarize the recent monitoring approach to foodborne diseases in China and compare the results with those in developed countries.

A randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled multicenter trial was conducted in healthy Chinese infants to assess the efficacy and safety of a hexavalent live human-bovine reassortant rotavirus vaccine(HRV)against rotavirus gastroenteritis(RVGE).A total of 6400 participants aged 6-12 weeks were enrolled and randomly assigned to either HRV(n?3200)or placebo(n?3200)*** the subjects received three oral doses of vaccine four weeks *** vaccine efficacy(VE)against RVGE caused by rotavirus serotypes contained in HRV was evaluated from 14 days after three doses of administration up until the end of the second rotavirus *** against severe RVGE,VE against RVGE hospitalization caused by serotypes contained in HRV,and VE against RVGE,severe RVGE,and RVGE hospitalization caused by natural infection of any serotype of rotavirus were also *** adverse events(AEs)were collected for 30 days after each *** AEs(SAEs)and intussusception cases were collected during the entire *** data showed that VE against RVGE caused by serotypes contained in HRV was 69.21%(95%CI:53.31-79.69).VE against severe RVGE and RVGE hospitalization caused by serotypes contained in HRV were 91.36%(95%CI:78.45-96.53)and 89.21%(95%CI:64.51-96.72)*** against RVGE,severe RVGE,and RVGE hospitalization caused by natural infection of any serotype of rotavirus were 62.88%(95%CI:49.11-72.92),85.51%(95%CI:72.74-92.30)and 83.68%(95%CI:61.34-93.11).Incidences of AEs from the first dose to one month post the third dose in HRV and placebo groups were *** was no significant difference in incidences of SAEs in HRV and placebo *** study shows that this hexavalent reassortant rotavirus vaccine is an effective,well-tolerated,and safe vaccine for Chinese infants.

Projectile electron loss in collisions of light charged ions with helium

We investigate the single-electron loss processes of light charged ions （Li^1＋,2＋, C^2＋,3＋,5＋, and O^2＋,3＋） in collisions with helium. To better understand the experimental results, we propose a theoretical model to calculate the cross section of projectile electron loss. In this model, an ionization radius of the incident ion was defined under the classical over-barrier model, and we developed ＂strings＂ to explain the processes of projectile electron loss, which is similar with the molecular over-barrier model. Theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the experimental results for the cross section of single-electron loss and the ratio of double-to-single ionization of helium associated with one-electron loss.

Surveillance and examination of microbial contamination in ice cream in China

This study investigated the microbial contamination of ice cream in China.A total of 2887 ice cream samples were collected from different regions of *** by the aerobic plate count(APC),coliforms,and three foodborne pathogens,Listeria monocytogenes(***),Staphylococcus aureus(***),and Salmonella spp.,was detected in the *** isolates were further analyzed for antibiotic susceptibility and multi-locus sequence typing(MLST).The results showed that APC was more than 10^(5) colony forming units(CFU)/g in 6.10%(176/2887)and coliform was more than 10^(2) CFU/g in 15.69%(453/2887)of all *** positive rates of ***,***,and Salmonella *** 0.66%,0.62%,and 0.10%,*** these,*** contamination was more than 102 CFU/g in two samples,and *** in the positive sample was in the range of 0.3-240 most probable number(MPN)/*** a median of 4.3 MPN/*** hygienic status of the packaged samples was much better than that of the bulk samples(P0.05).For 18 *** strains isolated from ice cream,the resistance rate of nine antibiotics was 5.56%(1/18).By MLST,the *** strains were classified into nine sequence types(STs),of which ST8 was the most common(six isolates).These results indicate that a potential health risk to the public may be caused by ice cream,particularly in susceptiblepopulations.
